I just found my 13 year old recessive Pembroke Corgi named Derby, dead under the deck. I went down to feed him this morning and I couldn't find him. I walked in our woods, up and down the street calling him to no avail.

I knew he was winding down in his quest at life as he was sleeping more and not eating as well. My husband came home this afternoon and went to look for him. I knew he had gone out to die. I just didn't know where.

So he has been bathed and wrapped in a baby blanket and we will bury him in our backyard. My son is coming home for the first time in 8 months for the weekend and Derby was his dog. I am not telling him until he gets home so we can mourn as a family.

I feel so blessed to have had this funny little dog who made us laugh and was good with horses. My shepherds were acting funny this morning and I couldn't figure out why. Animals have this innate sense that people could truly learn from on so many levels.

RIP Derby 11/99-8/13 I loved you a lot.

Awe Zuri, I'm so sorry. Dogs just don't live long enough, (((((hugs))))))

Just heard this on our local news Tulessa. How stupid is it to own one of these dangerous reptiles for a pet!

What I gleaned was that it was a 14 foot, 110 lbs snake, boys were 5 and 7, African Rock Python got out of a normally locked cage.
My bud in Phoenix does nothing but reptiles. Has degrees in it. He never brought large or dangerous reptiles into his home, they are always at his teaching school. He has multiple degrees.
Rock Pythons are the TOP dog of constrictors, VERY aggressive, and like any snake, attracted to heat, still or moving. It could have busted the ceiling just from it's weight, not because it smelled "food".
5 and 7 years old are usually sound sleepers, a sudden whump would probably not wake them. (Think about how long it takes to rouse your own kids at that age)If the snake sought warmth from the boys, who as brothers, could have been cuddled together being away from home, and one of the boys moved, the snake would have gone on the defensive. If it was warm enough, it could have quickly coiled around the maybe half awake boys, and started constricting before they could make a sound. The air from their lungs is the first to be expelled during constriction, so they could in no way cry for help.
The snake would have constricted until there was no heartbeat.
Whether or not this man should have had possession of a snake of this type or size would be ultimately up to the local zoning commission. But having this snake in what was probably just an "OK" cage, as in it never tried to escape, is not an excuse to not secure it more properly. It's better to go overboard in securing potentially dangerous critters than just think the bare bones will do the job. That snake was probably strong enough to push a pile of cinder blocks to the sides if he chose to take a path down the center of it.
The owner had no business keeping a snake of this size or specific breed. JMO
What a terrible and preventable tragedy.

Hi y'all. Thank you for the prayers and kind words. I have no questions for tonight or thought provoking anything. Derby was my son's dog for all intents and purposes. I have not told him as I know he will be very very upset as we all are. He gets home Saturday morning and we will tell him then.

Just an observation. Whatever drew us here in the first place is so much stronger than the evil that is JA. The bonds we have formed, how we care about each other, whether here or in real life, really says something about what is truly good in people, strangers all of us. God bless. Xoxo

Zuri, sorry to hear about your son's dog.

My cat will be 15 this month and is showing signs of age. She's given me a few scares when she has not gotten up with me in the morning or otherwise breaks her normal routine where we end up having to hunt for her.

She is very, very special as she was born on the day that my brother died. If any of you get to heaven before me, don't tell him he came back to earth as a cat! No, no, no, he was a dog person through and through.
