You did the right thing, M. :seeya:
I was born in 1951 and we moved to Texas when I was seven. We walked everywhere too. Two miles to the library and to the A&P and TG&Y, and on Saturdays we'd walk to the movies. You could get in, get a coke and popcorn or a coke and candybar with a dollar. In the summer we dared each other to walk barefoot across the street or in how long one could stand in the hot melting asphalt.
We learned to avoid stinging nettles and bullheads. We made Indian villages out of hay in the barn and the cowboys were out in the pasture, and we fished in the stock pond. During the heat of the day you read or watched soap operas with your mother and Icky Twerp and Slambang Theater in the afternoon before dinner. At noon each day the fire station blew a whistle and you knew it was lunchtime.
After dinner you stayed out and played Mother May I, Red Rover, freeze tag, and crack the whip. We'd catch Horny Toads, frogs and lizards, and at night lightening bugs and watch for shooting stars. We'd only go in to take a cool bath, sprinkle Cashmere Bouquet on the sheets and you'd be out like a light.
I can't remember mine (or anyone's) parents checking on us. I think they only called out to tell the younger kids to come in, otherwise we were on our own. You ate what was put before you, and bowed your head in thankful prayer. You said yes ma'am and no sir to adults, and you removed your hat when you entered a building.
Life has changed so much. We've done great damage to Mother Earth. We have cheated our kids out of simpler times of making do with what you had, and having to rely on your imagination.
Born in 1951 also. We'd take the bus uptown for movie on Sat. afternoons, and I always bought boiled peanuts from the black women sitting in front of Woolworth's. At home during the summers we'd get under the hose for relief from the heat. We lived directly across from the grade school and there were always kids on the playground. The school had a dumpster for paper only and of course I'd play in that thing cutting up construction paper and playing school. LOL We'd sneak in and play in the auditorium on the stage. Once I stole fish sticks from the kitchen. :floorlaugh: Once we flew a bra on the flagpole. One friend had the newest thing, the Slip N Slide. What fun! Saturday mornings were spent on mom's bed watching Fury, Mighty Mouse, Sky King and many others. You're so right - kids today seem lost without a computer game in their hands. We really had great childhoods and easily entertained ourselves. Hopscotch, jacks, pick-up sticks, etc. filled many hours, too! :seeya:
again, oh my, it almost hurts to remember it all -- playing horses in someone's backyard -- hopscotch -- tag, kick the can -- there is so much more -- until all hours -- without a care in the world -- wow -- what memories -- thank you, daisymae

Karmady :seeya: nice to see you!
Do you ever go down to the courthouse? I've been thinking about you a lot with all of these motions and remembering how much of a help you were sneaking peeks at court doc for us during trial. Thanks a million!
I just did my best Juan impression out in the hallway. Dayum it worked. People skittered and they went in their rooms and closed the doors. I just said, "Are you finished?"
dang, y'all are intent on outing us lurkers! lol I was going to comment on the strategies for getting kids to eat-- I have one who eats nothing and one who eats everything-- raised exactly the same, so...and decided not to since I hadn't been about in a while and not really following what's going on. If there's a need for documents, I can swing by on Tuesday and see what's there. Let me know if you think you're missing something important![]()
Hey Zuriiiiiiii !
I'd break the lamps!Daisy my fun flower, how are you? Do you watch tennis with your racket in hand? And swing like Venus in your living room?![]()
Hey Karmady! :seeya: We have missed you! What do you think is gonna happen with this penalty phase? I love your take on things! :blowkiss:
I honestly have no idea. I'm cool with her being incarcerated for life, so I'm not really following the re-trial of the penalty phase. My guess is that there won't be a change of venue but may be sequestration if it goes to trial on the penalty phase.
In my honest (but not popular) opinion, I think there should be a plea of lwop and no re-trial of the penalty phase. jmo
