SIDEBAR #21- Arias/Alexander forum

While I couldn't sleep last night I had a thought about Sandy and Bill Arias and their filing for bankruptcy, and I wonder if they're trying to evade a lawsuit by the Alexanders for failing to get Jodi help when they both knew she had mental issues even had friends calling telling them Jodi needed help? Just thoughts that go thoughts going through your head during the night.

It sort of annoys me that people can sue the family of a murderer like they were supposed to somehow predict what their deranged family member would do. Even WITH warnings and what not that she was batpoop bonkers, they had no way of knowing she'd kill a man. JMO! :loveyou:

I feel the same, and I feel it should not even be legal. It annoys me beyond belief. It is not everyone else's fault. Only the one that did the deed.

I don't think normally a family of a victim could sue successfully because most juries would see the murderer's family as victims themselves. However, the very fact that a family member is tweeting on JA's behalf (or so it is reported) and some of those tweets are considered harassment of the victim and his family I would say any jury may not take too kindly to that type of behavior and find for the plaintiff. Freedom of speech is not always free and like everything else it comes with responsibilities. If what has been reported is true the victim's family has a right to seek justice through the court system.

There is nothing wrong with JA's family sticking by her but they seem to be in denial that JA did anything wrong and they know better. In this case there might be an exception if there is proof JA's family stepped over the line in putting information out there for JA to harass the family. jmo

I could understand suing for harassment in that case.

I feel the same way. The family should NOT be responsible for their adult daughter's actions. Who knows, the Arias family may have tried to get the killer help and she refused. It is not her family's fault - it is strictly the Killer's actions and her fault.

Changing subjects, I am really upset. My daughter asked me 'what has happened, you have gained so much weight'. The truth hurts.

Thank you Yes or No for the Vincent Price videos! I so had a childhood crush, that really is sort of odd isn't it? I love his voice. The entire conversation with the friend last night was due to the film "The Last Man on Earth" 1964. Great film and available on many youtube listings.

I just watched that movie on TCM sometime in the last 2 weeks!
He was great in that. :seeya:

I for one am happy that there will not be live coverage. I never want to see her face again or hear her voice for any reason. Really, she is convicted, we don't need to see or hear from her ever again. Just sentence her, get her ready to be shipped off, let us see the Final Sentencing Order, and tell us if she tries to kill anyone in jail once she gets comfy. Just shut her down.

You summed up my sentiments exactly. I had a really rough time after the trial was over and I cannot subject myself again to "It". "It" is not worth my time or energy. It was simply too hard to look at the faces of the Alexander's when the jury could not reach a penalty verdict. Too painful... Thx for posting this.

This video brought me to tears. I try to live by this creed. The Golden Rule. I can remember a time when I had to leave my cart of groceries because there was not enough money to pay for them. It was a very humbling experience. I have always tried to pay it forward when I can. I think we all do. The kindness shown here is an example of that. I have been the recipient of you all's kindness and it has affected me deeply. Xo

complete and utter BS!

she is a convicted murderer she should have NO RIGHTS!

Wow, a flurry of rulings from Judge Stephens.

Denied:

-Motion to sequester jury.
-Motion for individualized voir dire.
-Motion for twitter accounts.

Granted:

-Motion to limit media coverage.

Still pictures will be allowed unless witness requests otherwise. Video will be released after the verdict. No electronic devices in the courtroom.

If the restriction banning electronic devices is taken literally, this would seem to mean that reporters won't be able to tweet.

Wonder if missy will be stomping her feet and throwing a tantrum when she finds out this news. After all, she loves, loves, loves the attention. And she will so hate, hate, hate not being in the spotlight. Still, she will probably tweet about her haters and fans that she sees when she goes back to court.

Thinking about it, Judge Stephens probably granted Nurmi's motion just to spite CMJA and not for the reasons set forth by Nurmi. LOL.

What other motions are left for argument or ruling?

Just heard about the no-cameras ruling. Argh. I feel exactly like Vinnie just said - the tax payers are paying for judge, defense, prosecution, court staff, everything! They should at least let the local stations like abc15, etc. stream it live. Also, Vinnie said it's always better to be more transparent than more secret, and I completely agree.

I guess JSS made that ruling to prevent the media from talking as much about the case so as to not potentially taint the selected jury (outside of court). That is the only reason I can think of, seeing as this is the last "jury" and they don't have to worry about tainting a future jury pool.

The other thing is, perhaps JSS wants to make sure there are absolutely no grounds for appeal. She doesn't want Jodi to be able to say that she had "potential witnesses" who didn't want to come forward. So that makes sense, I can kind of see why JSS would do that.

However, I still think it's not right and I don't like the secret way JSS is handling everything.

And releasing video after the verdict? Does that mean they'll release the whole penalty phase trial? I'll believe it when I see it. They still have most information locked up in seal. I can't see JSS voluntarily releasing anything, someone will have to take it up in court. We saw that with the records which were briefly unsealed, only to be sealed up again. Also, releasing video will probaby be only to media outlets, where we'll be teased by little snippets and never shown the whole thing.

Oh and what a surprise.....SEALED MINUTE ENTRY. Surprise, surprise! And why on earth would she need to the reasons behind her rulings?

It does say FTR disks of the trial will be made available to the media and the public after it's over.....I hope the public part is accurate. Because the previous brief "unsealed documents" were given only to the media, who did not give the public access to all of them. So I don't count the "media" as doing anything on behalf of the public, they just keep it to themselves so they can tease the viewers and milk money while doing it.

They should really give it to the public, as in put it on a website for all the public to be able to view. Without getting it third-party from the media.

What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving? :turkey:

I'm cooking.
I'm making a turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, brussel sprouts with bacon/garlic, green beans, rolls, and pumpkin pie.
All sure to make us fat (and have plenty of left overs) :floorlaugh:

Hi Zuri, but I wanted to see her face when the verdict comes in! I think they will get one as they will realize they are there for that only. I want to see her :tantrum:..If the jury doesnt get it this time, the Judge gets it. Lets hope she has the guts to give her LWOP!!! I guess I only want to see her face when suffeering.:scared: :seeya:

BBM Me, too, Nore. :ditto:

I've been wondering how Nurmi feels about defending missy :jail: now that she wanted him fired and all the blah, blah she put out there for the whole world to see. Of course she is just throwing the spaghetti to the wall to see what sticks, IMO. And that motion could be a ruse for an appeal later on?
Must be very hard to be objective about the whole mess, if I were in his shoes (but, of course, I'm not a lawyer).
Just wondering.

I'm still disappointed with the no-cameras and no electronic devices ruling. Sigh. I really wanted to see Juan again, live and on-camera. Also, it's like we've devoted so much time and energy to this trial, and now we don't get to see it through to the end. Yes, I realize that's selfish of me, but that's just how I feel right now. We've waited for this for sooooo long. I just hope the end result is good for the Alexander family.

I get why JSS did it, I think it's mainly because Jodi was going on about how her witnesses felt "threatened," such as ALV, Patty or whatever her name was, Darryl Brewer (even though he did an interview himself, as did Patty on HLN). The only one we haven't heard any complaint from is Dr. Samuels!

I'm assuming ALV will be a big part of their next phase b/c she is going to tell the jury that Jodi was emotionally abused and so they should spare her from the death penalty. So if it's televised, she could complain blah blah that ALV didn't want to be "threatened" again so she didn't want to testify.

Same thing with DB and Patty. Only it would actually be CMJA pulling all the strings and asking all of them NOT to testify so she can claim "unfair trial,"

So I guess we should be happy JSS is at least shutting her up in that regard..........

Have been mostly in lurk mode, and was just thinking about Princess. Has anyone heard? I'm unclear as to what type surgery she was having. I hope she's doing ok. TIA and hugs to all my Justice for Travis friends

Also, I have been thinking about how interesting it is that so much of the music I listen to is by dead people, Seriously:facepalm:. Here's just one example of that:

Jackie Gleason - But not for me (1953) - YouTube

neesaki, been thinking of you the last few days, don't know why.

Van Morrison - Days Like This - YouTube

Don't let it get you down , I'm here if you need a shoulder.

Van Morrison-In the Midnight - YouTube

Jodi has ruined the definition of pensive so I'll go with introspective music.
