Thanks, yoyo! My great grandfather owned many of the things there such as the theater, etc. Mom and all her cousins, aunts, uncles, spent their summers there. Most lived in Portland but mom lived in Boston. I've never been but heard many stories of her childhood there! Thanks for the photos. :loveyou:

Why did they move to the south?

I loved Oak Creek Canyon when I visited the area a few years ago. The switchbacks going down into the canyon were fun, especially with a manual transmission--very tight! So very sorry this has happened. I have friends in Sedona who have been posting updates on FB.

It is so scary dry all over out that way! I took my 11 year old son on a 12,000 mile, coast to coast and back, 7 week long road trip last summer. We dodged major fires in Colorado, suffered in 100 plus degrees in Nevada, couldn't have a fire in California national campgrounds below 9000 feet, saw a scorched California, Arizona and Utah.....even Oregon and Wyoming and Montana were hot and dry.

Bad news about the Oak River Canyon area....so much of beautiful Arizona has burned up in the past few years. Sadly I think its just going to get worse and worse out there, which was the main reason I wanted my son to see the West as it is now......

How many times did she try to pressure him to come up there? It seems like three or more times...not counting the time she did via voicemail after she had murdered him.

I could be wrong, but the Crater Lake/Coast/Shakespeare itinerary seemed to be very important to her, and he didn't seem to be interested at all. I don't think he ever planned on such a trip. Once she heard he was going to Washington State, she may have been delusionally optimistic since that is the general region in which she lived.

Has anyone else given this any thought?

A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary.

Sounds like missy :jail: :floorlaugh:

Yup the co river is drying up, one of my favorite places to jetskie but then everyone and their mother starting going to the river and since the 70s it has changed.

BBM EVIL. (a Bad Seed)

What do you think? Cut throat motion? Looks to me like she's wiping her neck- maybe tears- this is right after Samantha just finished her victim impact statement and the jurors were filing out:

SHOCKING JODI ARIAS MAKES CUT THROAT HAND SIGN TO JURY - YouTube

How about this one?

Jodi Arias Cut Throat Motion or Scratch? - YouTube

I'm not the type to focus on such things usually but I really think these were specific cut-throat motions. :scared::scared:

And that was a vacation???...:waitasec:....:desert:

Yes!! Even tho it was ::hot::hot: we saw so much and so much beauty and had so many adventures and I had 7 weeks to play with my now 12 year old son who is growing up way too fast and who in a couple of years likely wouldn't be caught dead spending time with his mom

So yes, it was happy happy! :skip::skip::skip:

I also want to add that unlike Casey who had many friends and was able to (at least pretend) to act normally in most social situations JA was socially awkward. Based on what Travis' friends have said JA was unable to be 'normal'. She stood-out as a strange and weird woman long before the murder.

Hi Rose! Long time no see....

I think she ignored women for the most part...so many of Travis' female friends saw an empty cold person who creeped them out. She charmed those she wanted to use, male and female.... all Travis' friends, she had none of her own, but the charm always evaporated when she didn't get what she wanted or felt slighted.

Hope4More :seeya:

JA felt threatened by most women so it's not surprising that she had no girl friends. Even in court it was obvious that she was jealous of the lovely Demarte. She even stared down one of the female jurors during trial! The woman couldn't even PRETEND to be decent/normal. Not even to save her life! :moo:

I know I've said this before :violin:, but I'm really bustin to hear the new mitigating factors that missy's :jail: team has dreamed up. What could they be???

Her old ones:

Jodi-Arias-mitigating-factors.jpg

And a good article on mitigating factors and life for missy :jail: after her sentence:

"Mitigation is not about guilt or innocence. It is about mercy. So the mitigation specialist is rarely, if ever, a lawyer. The person who fills this job is more likely to be a trained social worker or counselor. This person puts together an extensive report on the defendant's background and/or accomplishments.

Jodi Arias told Troy Hayden with bitter irony that her mother "didn't beat her hard enough" therefore she has no pathetic childhood stories with which to touch the jurors' heartstrings.

But Arias is missing the biggest point of the entire mitigation proceeding. The most effective thing a convict can do to mitigate their sentence is to show humility and remorse....

The shock of her conviction left one thing clear to Jodi. Having lived on the inside for 5 years, she must know from the stories of other inmates how different it is in state prison. With her tentacles to the outside world severely clipped as the last of 12 jurors firmly called out "yes" to affirm their vote, Jodi knew she had to reel Mama Arias back in as close as she could get her. The dip of the head, the falling sheet of hair, the "my mom is a saint" comment to Troy Hayden, seemed to me to be designed to that end..."

I really think that Nurmi/Wilmott are going to have her family plead for her life- what else is there? I've been racking my brains, trying to think of something.
The only previous mitigator that was somewhat true was "no prior criminal history", but even that is false- she stole the gun from Grandpa. And, maybe, she could show a lot of remorse? Sorry for murdering Travis seems easy, IMO, to say, since no one, the jurors, believed it was self-defense.

Just thinking out loud....

I've had some of the same thoughts, YorN. This new jury won't know about her claims of child abuse; in my opinion, that's the reason her family could not testify before the first jury.

The West always has a fire season, even in Oregon (and eastern Oregon is very dry). Fires started by lightning are common. Some trees have even adapted to grow best in charred areas out here. But the increase of human population has made the situation worse, because human-caused fires become additions to the ones caused by lightning in dry areas/years.

I experienced heavy smoke from fires when I lived in Colorado, and again in New Mexico. I traveled to Missoula, Montana in (2008?) during a really bad fire season there. We were forced to land in Kalispell instead of Missoula due to the smoke, and let me tell you, it was really intense when we got off that plane, like campfire smoke blowing into your face.

It is going to get worse, simply because of the growing population. I know people who have achieved their dream of living in Western mountains, only to have to evacuate from time to time because of fire.

It was so thoughtful of you to take your son on that trip, so important. :seeya:

Better to be quit driving in 2 years than dead (and you must live forever, gramma) :floorlaugh:

You know, I feel the same way at times. Fighting life and nothing seems or appears to be getting better- but it does, gramma, if even for a little while. Life seems long sometimes because we are in pain or have troubles, one after another, but most joy can seem only fleeting because we are not aware of the time going by- but with troubles/pain, the time drags on. This feeling you are having now will pass, gramma- it always does.

How you look at a situation is critical. You can either look at a situation as hopeless or simply a hurdle that needs to be overcome. Pray, my dear. I always say that, I know, but it really does help for me. Sing the song of prayer and let it block out all the pain and problems. The power of prayer is that it gives you the increased faith, the confidence, and the ability to look at the attacks you are under not as hopeless but as hurdles. You can say to me that I'm tired of jumping the hurdles, gramma, but you've come so far, for so long- Why not keep going?

We all fight battles throughout the course of our journey through this life. We all have those wonderful seasons of peace. We also have those intense times when the attacks come from all sides at once. Those are the times when the faith we claim to have must sustain us and guide us. You are much older than me and I commend you for living so long. I don't think I will live as long. I already feel the pain of old age in my bones which stops me from doing some of the things I enjoy, but I find other things to enjoy instead and keep on going- as I must and you must, if only for the people who love us and would miss us greatly if/when we are gone.

I will be praying for you tonight- for you are in the midst of the battle, facing great attacks on all sides, be of good cheer and know that the Lord is with you. We are all here for you, dear gramma, so visit us often when you need us- we like having you here. :blowkiss:
