Yes we see it all now. Ask to represent yourself. Nurmi and or Wilmott requests to withdraw as counsel. Get new lawyer and STALL. Ok JSS, it is up to you to have the backbone here. Tell JA she is on her own, and tell Nurmi and Wilmott to shut up and sit down. Let them know the game is over. Let's end this. The taxpayers of Arizona deserve an end to this.

JSS does NOT have a backbone, IMO ...

She is no :HHJP: Belvin Perry, IMO ...

Maybe Nurmi became DP qualified during this past year. I think I remember someone saying that JW was DP qualified during the trial.
What the heck do I know anyway!!!!!

Good Morning all!

:seeya: Hi Elle,

IIRC, Kiefer was pro-Jodi with his coverage of the trial.

I would have to go back and review the trial threads but IIRC, there was something about him that was hinky ...

:moo:

Kiefer is opposed to the death penalty and seems to have a personal grudge against Juan Martinez.

He does believe that Arias is guilty and he has expressed concerns that her guilty verdict could be in jeopardy. Sometimes his reporting comes off as pro-Arias when I think his intention is to slam Martinez.

Defense counsel has exploited his animosity towards Martinez by using Kiefer as their media choice for leaks/preferred media outlet.

Y or N, soi just read your post again and there is a hearing again today? Wonder what it's for, to discuss motion to withdraw? Defense witness deposition? Cameras in courtroom?

If anyone hears anything, please Post for us? Thanks.

Lamb chop,
I just found out both JW and KN are death qualified attys.

I agree about stunts pulled by JA. I think THAT is the reason for a possible 15-min delay. She will also, as you say, try to sneak things in left, right, and center.

The last time she acted as her own lawyer, it was to introduce forged letters that painted Travis as a child molester. Her lawyers wouldn't let her do that, so she became her own lawyer and did it anyway. It backfired when they were judged to be forgeries, and she went back to letting her lawyers do their thing.

Right now she's pissed because her lawyers aren't responding to her whims, and when they do, it's probably to shoot down every scheme she proposes. If she's her own lawyer, she can carry through with her plans, at least to a certain extent. She will also be able to let things "slip" that are inadmissible, but claim ignorance.

Her pathetic schemes are transparent to most of us, but she's not playing to us; she's playing to a jury, and you never know how a juror is going to react to her.

One tidbit that we need to bring forward:
The Grand Jury, Matt McCartney, and the forged letters (sp?). Juan threatened Matt with perjury so fast his head would spin if he testified in court that they were authentic and the CMJA told him of the abuse and showed the indications to him.
Matt's married with a child, and all but disappeared long before the trial started. Wanted nothing to do with her Royal Heinousness.

Her first live in boyfriend, name escapes me, was contacted by the Prosecutor's office and wanted nothing to do with it. He's out in Hawaii, was an extra in the series "the Lost", and is following a film career. An ex girlfriend of his got some "face time" doing her own YouTube clips claiming abuse, etc., but I guess it wasn't too much on the up and up, MSM didn't pick it up, there was a domestic violence charge, but I didn't find anything more than a charge, no conviction.

JSS has a very hard job and I think she is doing well, so far, IMO (probably in the minority here, but- hey, doesn't matter, IMO).

She has to be cautious so missy:jail: doesn't have too many appeal after the sentencing.

To some, maybe it seems that she doesn't have a backbone, but I think she is going on the right track, IMO- slow and as steady as she can.

We may not realize why she does some things, but she must have a good enough reason to do them.

I've been researching the appeals process, I'm not done yet, and there are a lot of little minuscule points to consider and it gets quite complicated.

I will support her as best I can and hope that Travis and his family will have whatever justice they need here from the outcome of this trial.

Better to be safe, than sorry here, IMO.

Good morning LambChop. I remember this differently and we need to know which it is. :). I had remembered that when he tried to withdraw once before, many moons ago, it was brought up that Wilmott was his assist but that she was not DP qualified. And Nurmi handled the case and the closing for the dp sentencing stage. So I would think that if Wilmott were the DP attorney she would not have allowed Nurmi to give the closing argument over whether Jodi got life or death. Further, when I looked up that female attorney that JA requested last week, it said she is with the public defenders office and is DP qualified. I can't remember her name , something like trumpff, but I don't know now. So please correct me if I am wrong.

I just don't see JSS allowing anyone to withdraw right now. So late in the game. Either way, we are going to see Jodi file for some type of appeal, either because she says Nurmi was ineffective or because she will say the judge was biased.

I think the number 1 issue the court has with Nurmi is that they've invested a LOT of money paying for his services since he left the PD's office, because he was getting a private attorney's going rate. The Court made that concession because Nurmi HAD put in for his resignation from the PD and there was no reason to think CMJA trial wouldn't be done within a reasonable time.
And here we are, years later.
If the Court let's him withdraw, I'd be demanding a refund for his services. He got his private attorney fees because he was supposed to follow this case to the end.

BBM I think you are correct about a personal grudge.

Does anyone remember this article that came out sometime last Fall- written by Mr. Keifer? (he starts out right away to bash JM when he called
him "a media darling" and his slant on JM seems to be jealousy, IMO. Lots of info on JM's cases- :

Don't know what this hearing is all about. I tried to check up on it, but no one is talking about it.
I don't have a cell phone, so I don't Tweet or I would Tweet Jen to find out.
Maybe someone else can Tweet her to see if she will be there?

I suspect it's an ex parte hearing on the motion to reconsider the motion to withdraw as counsel.

ETA: Sorry, forgot to quote YorN's post, to which I was responding.

What do you think about self-representation in a trial?

How do you think she will do?
Any thoughts, AZlawyer?
