Court: Judge can't shut out media from Jodi Arias trial

"...The panel granted a stay to the media, which means that Judge Sherry Stephens cannot exclude the public and the media from testimony until the Court of Appeals rules on a special action filed by the media. A special action is an expedited appeal....

After the ruling was issued, Stephens allowed the media back into the courtroom. Then, after a long conversation with the defense attorneys and prosecutor Juan Martinez, out of earshot of the rest of the courtroom, Stephens announced that there was "a difference of opinion" about what the order meant. :notgood: :sigh:

The lawyers will discuss the order in a hearing Tuesday afternoon. The jury will not return until Wednesday morning..."

Me thinks the appeal judges need to get JSS on the phone and explain to her what the ruling means and where they likely may be headed with their ultimate decision. Geeesshhhh.

This is not up for debate!!!

Good Grief.

For your donation, you'll receive an autographed wooden spoon from Sandy - #jodiarias

What on earth do they have to say that can be of any value? I won't be spending any time watching it, that's for sure.

Looks like she used a razor on her eyebrow too. No tweezers for Jodi.

Hi AngelWings, where is the picture? I've been sick and took a bit off, missed some pages..Thank you so much. Did it look like she shaved her mustache?

Oh for goodness sakes, even we know what it means. JSS can hide the witness' identity and not allow pictures of the witness. If Nurmi does not trust anyone they can put this person in a disguise and disguise their voice if necessary. I do not think it is the testimony because they plan to release it after the retrial so what difference does it make. You can't threaten someone when you do not know who they are. If it is Jodi, she's in prison surrounded 24 hours a day by guards. If they have testified before there is no reason not to again if they have been subpoenaed. They do not have a choice.

Personally, I don't think it is Nurmi. I think it is Jodi telling Nurmi this is what she wants. JMO

I went to that site for her "appeal fund" and found this:

"I thought the Arizona taxpayers have to pay for Jodi's appeals?

If Jodi is given a sentence of death, then, yes, Arizona taxpayers will be required to pay for Jodi's entire defense (all over again), even if it takes decades, which most death-penalty cases do. The problem with this scenario is that Jodi will not receive the best representation possible. Rather, she will be appointed yet another public defender, and we've already seen the disastrous results of that. Even if a public defender can manage to get the conviction overturned, that public defender will also be Jodi's trial attorney

If Jodi is sentenced to life, taxpayers will fund very little. She will be appointed a public defender for her direct appeal, and if her conviction is upheld (nearly all convictions are upheld on direct appeal), then post-conviction relief (PCR) proceedings begin. Few appellants are granted a hearing at the PCR stage, and of those few, fewer still ever manage to get their convictions overturned. If the public defender can manage to get Jodi a hearing during PCR, she will be back in the same courtroom with the same trial judge and the same prosecutor. Only the public defender will be new (and thus at a disadvantage). The Honorable Sherry Stephens will be the one deciding whether to uphold Jodi's conviction. Arizona taxpayers will not pay for anything beyond PCR proceedings. If her conviction is upheld, Jodi and her public defender will part ways and Jodi will go back to prison # for the rest of her life.

The alternative is much better: Immediately after Jodi is sentenced, whether to life or death, the Legal Defense Fund is used to retain the most competent, skilled attorney available to begin working on her appeals right away, from her direct appeal all the way to the federal level, if need be. Unfortunately, this scenario cannot be realized until there is enough in the fund to retain an attorney. Nor is it in Jodi's best interest to retain one later down the line, because that attorney will not be adequately familiarized with the case and relevant history, such as incidents of prosecutorial misconduct. Also, there is a limited window of time that Jodi has to appeal in, and if that window closes, she will have lost the opportunity, and any further attempts to appeal will be deemed by the court to be not timely.

So, the question "Don't the Arizona taxpayers have to pay for Jodi's appeals?" can best be answered with a question: "Don't you want Jodi to have the best legal representation possible, or do you want to leave it to chance and let the system pick another public defender for her?"..."

BBM Nurmi is jumping thru hoops for their brat and they don't appreciate anything he has done for her. :stormingmad:

What makes them think that another lawyer would do better??? She's guilty, nothing will change that and nothing will "save her". She's a murderer! Do they think people are stupid and would believe her "stories"? Delusional- all of them!

How many motions do you think she will have have filed by tomorrow morning? MOO, I think she comes up with most of the motions and tells the defense they have to file them.
She's gonna have a busy night! Gotta dig up some witnesses too, or will noone come forward for her???

I agree... its Jodi telling Nurmi what she wants done... just as its Jodi telling her parents to do the video ... and what she wants them to say... JMO

It makes you wonder if the whole family is psycho. Jodi did the same thing on everything or body that didn't do thing her way. It was her defense team fault ,not hers, that they didn't do as she commands. The little last slam that she'd do or say things to help her case , but they didn't think things was relevant to her case. GMFB

But they let her have a razor?????

I didn't want to quote the picture of her again. Yuck. But the other day, she looked like she was sporting a beard in one of her pics. I think she has to shave her face.

Wow. she is getting grayer by the day. Maybe she'd still have some brown by the time this trial gets over with. And she has makeup on. Look at the eyeliner. The color of lipstick is pinker than what she's worn before.

Eyeliner! Why this woman uses eyeliner to draw attention to her soulless eyes and why she grooms her murderous hands are beyond me.

Many people here know my history. Without rehashing too much, I'll just say that I was married to someone a lot like Jodi. He was eventually diagnosed with comorbid antisocial/narcissistic personality disorders and is currently incarcerated for drugging and raping his niece. When he plead guilty, his own mother concluded he did so simply to avoid a lengthier sentence and blamed her own granddaughter for seducing him. He was 43. She was 14. His mother has sent him pictures of my house from google earth, relayed messages for him, sent gifts from him - basically became his proxy to further abuse, manipulate, and intimidate.

Need I really say more? I do not believe people like Jodi are a happenstance. They do not get there all on their own. Now, some murderers do come from reasonably normal families...but some murderers are not like Jodi. The worst of the worst Cluster B personality disordered murderers, I am convinced, come from a long line of entitlement, superiority, self-absorption, apathy, narcissism. They seem to be taught from a young age that they are special and rules do not apply to them as they do the rest of us. In my ex-MIL's case, there was a lot of guilt at allowing her son to be abused as a child. So much so, she never held him accountable for any misdeeds as a teen or adult. His every action, no matter how callous or cruel, was excused, justified, tolerated, forgiven and forgotten.
