What Happened in the Year You Were Born?

The song in my birth year 1949:

YorN, this was very interesting!!! Love the way it started..."In 1951, the world was a different place.

There was no Google yet. Or Yahoo. Or Websleuths, for that matter".

Would suggest if anyone has 10 extra minutes to spare, click and the link and be amazed about your birth year!!

Thanks YorN or sharing this!! :)

Ok. Y'all need to come help me with your amazing ideas! What beautiful ideas and homes! Love, love, love.
I got the bids to refinish the hardwood floors and make the necessary repairs to the floor, including the transition piece from room to room as I tore out a wall. (Not me personally, but the contractor guys). I am now going to get a travertine tile floor bid and compare the two. I already have the hardwood, so I may go ahead and refinish it as you all pointed out, it flows. My whole first floor is hardwood except for the laundry room which is travertine and the powder room which is marble.

Ok. Next question: I went and got estimates for a 72" kitchen island. I am replacing the cherry one and using that one as an entertainment bar in the family room. Maybe. I picked out Decora cabinets: (3) 18" drawer and door (for trash can), 36" set of four deep drawers and an 18" drawer and door with pullout shelves. The back is wainscoted or door framed. $5,000.0000000 for 3 freaking off white painted cabinets with a glaze! OMG, I WANNA CRY!

Of course I picked Cambria Quartz "Windermere" which is $87.00 a square foot = $5,000.00. The Ogee edge is $25.00 extra per linear foot. image.jpg You can see my cherry cabinet under the backsplash tile I picked out that is from Italy (of course), and the Cambria and cabinet door style. Before I am done, I will have spent a small fortune and I am not a cook!

Suggestions please! Is there another brand of cabinet that you all use that might be cheaper? Should I use granite instead? It is $50.00 per square foot., so $2900.00. Thank you all so much!

This is how my kitchen looks under destruction:

I don't know why it is sideways. Sorry.

This is another tile I found, made in the US (NY) that costs even more than the Italian tile. It is crackle tile and simply gorgeous.

My 2nd ex and I used to lay saltillo tile floors. We ALWAYS checked the boxes before we excepted them because there was variations in color, even if they came from the same company. Then we had the homeowner sign that the color was acceptable. The last thing we wanted was a complaint filed with the Registrar of Contractors.

I would have dumped all the pink tile on the contractors front door step or the tile company, but I'm kinda touchy about paying someone to do something. Do it right or get out of the business.

I seriously wish I had thought of dumping that tile on the front stoop of the store front, what a Victory that would have felt like at the time. I was just so overwhelmed and about to have a nervous breakdown so didn't ... but thinking about it, I am a little surprised my husband didn't do that, which would be right down his alley, lol. Especially since he's the one who had to do all the hard labor of taking the tile out. And he had a Helper that's like a machine so Thank God for that. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 as they say :)

Good lord, that avatar looks suspiciously familiar, and I don't know why.

  • #253
BBM I remember that night. I couldn't do it because I didn't know how to change my avatar with a pic that wasn't from WS's stockpile.

Sleuth5, lil buddy, sequek9, Viviane Vance- remember them? We had lots of fun.

I don't remember why everyone changed their avatars to cougars that night??? Something salacious probably (wild group)

Hey, what happened to Sleuth5 and lil buddy ? I miss them. :(

I'm, sort of, thinking it had to do with that "Prancercise" lady, her "cameltoe" thingy, and her age??? Everyone was vicious that night and for days about her, IMO.

I didn't post my pic that time as I don't have one of me on my computer (and don't know how to add pics to the computer- then or now anyway ). A beautiful bunch of people tho'.

We use to stay on the Sidebar 'til late in the night and posted lots of music videos (wonder why that stopped. Oh yah, I remember now :(- they closed the trial thread and everyone came over to the Sidebar to talk about the murderer and spoiled all the fun :( )

Oh No, :noooo: Please :noooo: don't bring back that freaky Prancercise lady :hilarious:

And yeah, whatever happened to all the good music videos. It was so fun back then ... :dunno:

Very nice to see you, Zuri. I love your horse!

Thanks so much! She was my first foal that I bred and she did really well in the Hunter Breeding classes. I just sold her to a really nice young woman from Canada where she will have a forever home. I had to cut my horse habit back lol. To two. Well 3 next month if my mare foals a healthy colt.
