Yes, the poor girl strains to poo, and then she could not pee. Major surgery then, but I try to keep her "regular" with cranberry supplements and these biscuits. Two or three a day seem to work.

The basic recipe came from here: http://www.food.com/recipe/pumpkin-dog-biscuits-28099
I got a small bag of Carnation dry milk since it lasts quite a while. The recipe makes a whole large cookie sheet of tootsie roll shaped or nearly two trays of cookie shapes. I don't do the bone shape .... too lazy. They don't fluff up, so you can pack them close on the tray. I roll the dough into a jelly roll shape, slice it lengthwise and then slice those again. Then I flatten one roll into whatever shape I want (usually a semi flat slightly rounded roll) and slice off my cookies. Add any healthy ingredients you want, add enough water to hold the dough together without being too sticky. A can of unsweetened pumpkin makes three batches, so I freeze the leftover into two containers for the next batch.

I have added chopped cranberries, natural peanut butter, dry oatmeal, dry chopped parsley (for breath!) unsweetened applesauce, or grated carrots at different times. KEEP REFRIGERATED when baked.

Blend 2 eggs with 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
Add 1/2 tsp. salt and 2 TB. dry milk
Blend in 2 and 1/2 cups flour (wheat is better)
Water to moisten and blend well, @ 1/8 cup
(add any other healthy ingredients if desired)

Bake 20 minutes, turn over, bake another 20 minutes, at 350 degrees

Thanks for the recipe. :tyou:

Hi Nore,

(and everyone else too :) )

I meant to post weeks ago about your puppy's "problem" with going to the bathroom outside but with 2 jobs I barely get by here to read - and I usually fall asleep while catching up, lol. Anyhoo, the way I've always house-trained my dogs is kinda odd, but always works. Don't laugh! Or do, as it is funny, but give it a try.

OK, you know how when you wake up & you have the urge to pee, if you press on your lower belly it makes the urge worse? :blushing: I'd take my pups out after every nap, every meal & every play time and press on their belly (back by their hind legs) and say, "Go pee!" You can use whatever word you want if pee isn't to your liking! Only takes a few days or so, although since yours is now used to not going outside much it may take a couple of weeks or so. Also, at night you should crate her or put her in a cardboard box with high sides; dogs instinctively won't go where they sleep, but it must be a small space - not much bigger than her in size. If you're inside & notice her sniffing the floor or starting to squat, say "Out!" louder than your usual voice level & immediately swoop down to gather her up and take her outside, then do the belly squeeze & the saying. She'll catch on quickly. Lots of praise, of course, when she does the right thing. Before long you should have a house-trained puppy....and clean floors, lol.

PS - No water after about 8pm will also help her be more comfortable thru the night...

PPS - Never yell at your puppy while training them. It tends to scare them & many will "let go" when scared, so you've defeated your purpose... "Out!" is a sound that sounds like something the mommy dog says to her pups when she's displeased with them & it does catch their attention. I've never found it to help the situation at all to rub the dog's nose in their mess, either. Their attention span at that age is so short that they have no idea why you're forcing their face into pee/poop! I'm sure it's rather unpleasant & they wonder why is my new mom doing this to me? Wah!!

BBM That's what I did with my Buddy when we first got him. I put him in a cardboard box with sides higher than he was and couldn't jump out of with an old towel in it when I went to bed; he was right next to my bed at night (he woke up every 2-3 hours or so, just like a human baby). :sheesh:

During the day, I watched him like a hawk and anytime he was sniffing/squatting, I would take him out. Took about a couple of weeks to train him. I did use the puppy wee-wee pads in the very beginning, which he used. I gradually stopped using them as he learned that doing his business was an outside activity.

Well, 281129 is going to start enduring prolonged temps in the triple digits tomorrow, *maybe today*. (cause we all know weather men get it wrong "occasionally") It'll be pushing 110 in the next 2-3 days down there in good old Goodyear.
When my ex had his "stay" in Perryville, the city on the inmates' letters was Litchfield Park. I guess Litchfield didn't like being associated with the prison?

Have a 3 day "vacay" while the BF goes back East to see his brother, leaves tonight and comes back Sunday night. It'll be nice, I need the break. He left the oven on last night, was wondering why it was getting so warm around 8:00pm.............gah, 450 set on Bake. Going to try to contact his nurse at the VA and see if I can get some help with all this.

Woke up this morning to the sound of the train down in the valley coming through my house. Must have really scared the bejesus out of the Indians and the wildlife when the tracks were laid maybe a decade ago. The conditions have to be just right for the sound to carry up here.

Been working the horses a lot lately, cool weather. Zuri still hasn't totally shed out her baby coat, but it looks like she's going to be roan, a mix of 50/50 white and bay body hair with black mane and tail. She's still kinda going through that "funky" looking phase and I just don't have the heart to take a pic of her and post it, lol! Kinda hedging, though, the thread needs a Zuri update.

Our microwave took a dump. I ordered another from Walmart...........and it won't be there for pickup until the 25th. So much for microwave popcorn.

Been watching "Desperate Housewives" on Hulu every evening. Pretty goofy show. They sure like to kill off actors/actresses violently. Just twiddling my thumbs waiting for this last season's "Dr. Who".

And in other "local news", a man was attacked by bees in Dewey, about 45 minutes from here. His 2 dogs were also attacked and died. There was also a similar incident down in Phoenix yesterday, again 2 dogs died.

Y/N. you sure have been busy with lots of interesting posts this morning. Thank you .... it gives me lots to do instead of work. :giggle: and I can still look busy.

Yikes, Bernina! I don't like the sound of those killer bees one bit. How awful. Good luck getting the help your BF (and you) need. Hope something works out nicely.

I just came across this new upcoming case this morning, and some of the information written about this chick reminded me of JA.

This girl, Darla Renee Jackson, is going to be on trial for killing a guy, Zack Buob, on a motorcycle with her car, in an apparent road rage incident.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/cri...obs-court-murder-navy-biker-article-1.2245457

From the article:

And she has a history of harassing at least two ex-boyfriends, both of whom requested restraining orders against Jackson in 2012.

One was on the receiving end of 72 phone calls from Jackson in a single day. She ended up trying to break into his house through a bedroom window after leaving threatening voicemails, the paper reported.

A second ex said she tried to run him down with her car in a parking lot after an argument that he escaped only by pushing off her hood and hopping a fence.

There isn't a thread here yet at WS that I've seen.... if someone knows there is one... will you let me know?

We have trains going past our backyard... :trainwreck: I have nightmares of the train going off the tracks and crashing into the trees in the backyard. Trees are a buffer between our house and the tracks...

Okay - Websleuths is still screwy... hope this posts! :pcguru:

Take care everyone! :seeya:

I tried searching, but nothing came up either. Maybe you can start a thread for Zack! And post the link here for us?

I can do that... I think this is going to be an interesting case.

Should it go into the Currently Awaiting Trial section?

And do I put the name of the victim in the title, or the name of the woman who killed him? or both?
(I haven't started any threads here at WS)

Snipped and BBM by me for focus. According to the inmate, her swamp cooler is so effective that she needs not 1, but 2 sweatshirts (which must be purchased from the commissary, hint hint ). The next thing you know she is going say she made shaved ice for her fellow inmates by scraping all the frost from her cell walls and mixing it with lemonade powder.

Yeah, I brought this up (I'm thinking it was on the JA General Discussion thread?) the day after she was arrested and all this stuff was coming out. Definitely see the correlation! Should be interesting...

Judge refuses to move Gaver trial out of Yavapai County

The released video was posted on the city's Facebook page and a reader is also "pushed" to a YouTube page that shows the chief describing and interpreting the video "blow by blow."
Springer submitted dozens of pages of social media, showing reader comments to the YouTube video. The attorney told the court, Fanning's actions were a "mockery of the justice system, tainting a jury pool."

That was the point at which Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Joseph Butner began to question the argument. He said that reading the comments showed the public "craziness ... in the American tradition of voicing their opinions."
Butner said the comments were "all over the map. I don't see it heavily favored the side of the police, but both sides."
There should be a new term for this............the "Nurmi Effect".
5 defendants (all from the same family) and 5 attorneys. Totally crazy incident at Walmart back in March.
"Social Media" is now the new "excuse" for everything from soup to nuts as far as defense attorneys go.

LMAO!!!! She's not fooling any of us who've had swamp coolers in the Phoenix summer...........buwahahahahahaha!!!!!!! Maybe she wants sweatshirts, say, at 4:00 in the morning when the temps drop, but silly 281129, "This is YOUR life". Wait til the monsoons hit, 281129 is gonna be sweatin' like a pig! :floorlaugh:

re blue - Sounds good!
re red - usually have victim's name in title - example NY - Zack Buob killed and than a date I believe - you can check out others before you start one.

Also, link those articles you posted above, k? Sorry, it took me so long to answer - I was behind in the Holmes case and JUST caught up!!

See you all tomorrow ! :seeya:

That is the best way to potty train puppies, but you don't need to press on their belly's. It's the natural way because your taking them out the way their body's function. Too many pet owners don't understand or follow how a dog works, and doesn't take or let them out, so they poop or pee and get the blame.

I need to go through my old pictures and those of MonaLou and Sport when they were born and after. There are several of them happy after a nap, and when the crate door opened they run out and out den door, and barley make it off the deck and pee. We did this as soon as they were up and walking. MonaLou and Sport are ten now and we keep the den door open all day and they come and go as when they want. Every night at eight thirty Mona comes and sits looking at me, and if I ignore her she puts her paw on me and if I ignore that she'll try to climb on my laptop if I'm not making eye contact. If I am she can make such a sad face then she does the kicker - she gulps.

She doesn't have to go she just wants out to see whats going on. She sits out in the orchard surveying her kingdom. Then she plays a game of I might look like I'm going in the house, and I might be, but don't plan on it. Sport goes out under protest and wants back in as soon as he can. If I make his stay out until I get Mona to go in, he sits and crop circles.

Yeah, I brought this up (I'm thinking on the JA General Discussion thread?) the day after she was arrested and all this stuff was coming out. Definitely see the correlation! Should be interesting...

Oh good.. I am hoping there will be some folks interested in this trial.

From the reading I've done today... it has caught my attention.

An interesting day here. We had a retrial for a guy who murdered an elderly woman in 2009. Verdict was overturned due to juror instruction. He was found guilty again today and lunged for an officer and spit at the prosecutor. Local station has footage. My dad is a bailiff, at the age of 83, and was right in the middle of it! I've only saw grainy footage so far but will post a link later. My dad...my hero!
