Neeski ~
My beloved grandmother :heartbeat: who raised me until I was 5, always called my toys my "play pretties." I have thought about it for years, as it is very endearing to me. So I have always called Macky's toys her "play pretties."

I have taken everything of hers out of my living room to my oldest daughters dismay. She has now has Mac's bed in her room. I did however keep her favorite play pretty, the last one she/we played with 2 days before she got sick. It still has her scent as well, and I sleep with it every night.

Talk about unexpected! Wow. We NEVER saw this coming. She would always get so excited when my daughter pulled in the driveway. She never could contain herself waiting for her to get in the house. She would whimper/wine and shake that little butt and swing her tail and pace. This one particular day in the middle of June, as my daughter pulled up in the driveway instead of her usual whine of excitement, she coughed. That was all. A few coughs and then she wouldn't do it anymore. I noticed the only time she did it was when she got excited.

Of course after 5 days of this continuing, I took her back to the Vet. This was on a Friday. Our Vet pushed on her esophagus, and Macky didn't cough at all. That was a GOOD thing. I can't remember what our Vet even thought it was as it is all a blur now (maybe a cold?) I'm not sure, but she was given pills for her cough, and put on a anti-biotic. Then by the following Monday I noticed that she wasn't really coughing, but she was having trouble catching her breath. (once again, ONLY when she got excited.) We got her back in to see the Vet again on Tuesday, and I explained to her what I wrote above. She (vet) did blood work and took x-rays. Her x-rays were awful to look at. No black what so ever, all solid white cottage cheese looking specs everywhere. Our Vet, who I love dearly said it could be either pneumonia or cancer. She said she could arrange for us to take her to Blue Pearl < I knew right then that She suspected it was cancer, as she also mentioned that they couldn't do surgery because both lungs were affected. :frown:

She put Macky on a stronger antibiotic and something to help with her breathing. She said to come back in 2 weeks, and we would repeat both tests.
Mac continued to go down hill from then on and after 8 days of a 14 day regimen of stronger antibiotics, I know what I needed to do. She was struggling so hard to breathe and she stopped eating on that 8th day.

It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do :crying:
Macky was NOT going down without a fight. After they gave her the sedative, she refused to lay down. She kept trying to walk and get out of there. It was heartbreaking. I stayed for as long as I could stand it and as I bent down to kiss my baby goodbye, she stuck her little dry tongue (it was barely out) and licked my mouth. I knew her Vet was coming in and I could not make myself stay. My oldest daughter sat on the floor with her till the end.

My daughter is really having a hard time with this too, so we are not able to comfort each other at all. She even went to the Dr. and got on an anti depressant. I told her that an AD is not going to take her grief away, if that's what she thinks.

I know because I have been on one for years...
It has taken me 2 hours to write this because I keep walking away. It's so hard to talk about.

Oh Dmacky, I honestly don't know if I could do it. (((hugs))) I wish that dogs had longer lifespans. :(

National Waffle Day … but why? On the origin of food holidays

"Fire up your griddle, it’s National Waffle Day!

Or … don’t. If waffles aren’t your thing, gear up to throw one back on Tuesday, which is National Whiskey Sour Day.

And if that doesn’t quite whet your whistle, don’t worry: Wednesday is National Cherry Popsicle Day.

Our calendars are bursting with calls for culinary celebrations these days and social media trending topics and news stories clamor to let us know it’s “National [fill in the food here] Day.”

But it raises the question: Says who?.."

Hemy Neuman says he can’t afford attorneys; granted public defender

"..Hemy Neuman, whose conviction was overturned in June, told a judge during a status hearing Thursday he can no longer afford to retain Doug Peters and Bob Rubin, the two defense attorneys he hired after his arrest. He’ll now be appointed public defenders...

Neuman was found guilty but mentally ill in Sneiderman’s killing. He was sentenced to life without parole.
But in June, Georgia’s Supreme Court overturned the ruling, citing violation of attorney-client privilege..."

'The art of love making is in our letters': Lawyer who married her serial killer client 18 years ago explains what it's like having a husband on death row - and why she is still fighting to have him released

"A Florida public defender who left her husband to marry a serial killer on death row has explained her life as the wife of a man who has been behind bars for their entire 18-year marriage.

Rosalie Martinez met Oscar Ray Bolin Jr., a former carnival worker and truck driver, after working on one of his rape and murder cases in 1995 and married him soon after.
Bolin has been on death row for the last 19 years after being convicted of the 1986 stabbing murders of Natalie Blanche Holley, 25, Teri Lynn Matthews, 26, and Stephanie Collins, 17, and dumping their bodies in Tampa..."

OK rant over....

Whoa Nelly! Wonder what caused that to happen. :scared:
It happened to me too Spell! I was replying to YOU and all of the sudden I got a 404..and then I couldn't get back in the forum. Did they shut it down for awhile? OR is it just YOUR posts :scared:

LOL just joking  But it is ODD, doncha think?

YESorNO Welcome back Kotter!!! We have missed you soooooooooo much :heartbeat:

Neeski That was a first for me too (having her put down)...but if you could have seen her gasping to breathe I knew she was not going to get better. She was struggling for air like my husband in his final stages of lung cancer. I knew I was just being selfish :crying: I did have the Vet do another x-ray first and her lungs were still compromised severely. The Vet even got teary eyed when she brought out the new x-rays. Everyone loved Macky, she was one of a kind I tell you. She was the only MUTT I have ever owned in my life, and she was definitely by far the smartest dog out of any of my 4 previous purebreds. I received 4 sympathy cards! She was LOVED!
Her vet sent us a card (I'm sure that is standard) nut she wrote on one whole side and even more that she finished in a letter. She assured me that I did the right thing.
What is even sadder is Macky was only 8 years old. Remember when I said she wasn't going down without a fight? She must have been running on an adrenaline rush or something, because at home she was completely listless. She couldn't even lay her head down, because it made breathing so much harder. She even slept laying gown with her head up :crying: and she refused to eat.

I'm glad I finally was able to say all that out loud. You guys ARE great therapy, just like cj said
And I didn't even cry just now! I love you all!!!!!

Spell Promise us that there will be No more voodoo young lady :giggle:

I'm a lot like that too now a days, totally different than when I was younger when I had a career and was always on the road and here and there and everywhere. I never in my wildest dreams would have believed I could enjoy being home as much as I do now. I used to hate staying at home. And not only that, I used to be so adventurous: we went on hiking / backpacking trips into the wilderness, we went scuba diving, bicycling, snow skiing, water skiing... you name it. So now, I'm trying to figure out what has come over me. I have become a true home body.

So instead of me saying, I'm ready to go somewhere, it's my DH who says he's ready to go somewhere. And it's me saying, well it's really too hot, or it's really too rainy, or we can't take our dog so it won't work out very well ... :dunno:

Seriously, after I've been out of the house for even a few hours, I'm ready to go home. My home is my fortress. I love being home with just me and my dog with Turner Classic Movies on low in the background. I love to roam the hallways, I love my kitchen, and I love being on the computer. I love walking into the back yard and being in the peace and quiet, watering my plants, walking my dog... What's wrong with me?

BBM Nothing wrong with being happy with yourself in the quiet of your home, IMO.

You must be my twin  as I love being home and hate to go out into the "world" now that I have gotten older, but I was always a homebody anyway. Home is so calm (and safe from all the crazies/craziness out there, IMO). I have all that I need in my home and I have made it that way (except when I have to shop for food, that is), so it's a great place to be. I use to go to chapel 3-4X times a week, but I have even stopped doing that because I figured that my home is my "chapel" and I can pray anytime and anywhere, IMO, (just Sundays-when I can make it). Guess I'm a real "heathen" now.
