Hi All - I was here earlier, but had nothing to say, but now I do... :D

August 30 - The "people's princess" Diana Princess of Wales dies in a high speed car crash.

I'd want to see/ go through the tunnel when we visit Paris. The Eiffel Tower is a given, and there is so much more to see. The Louvre, the catacombs, Palace of Versailles. So much more. Who's been to Paris so we can see it through their eyes? We want sights, sounds, smells and taste of the french cuisine.

Actually, Diana died on my 50th birthday - August 31, 1997.
I've been to the Paris airport (Charles DeGaulle) on a change over for planes... does that count??!! IMO the French people do NOT like Americans; my sisters were with me, and one of them knew a bit of French, but they spoke soooo fast, she couldn't keep up, and they wouldn't slow down when asked!! And the other one got lost in the airport, we thought we'd miss our connection!

Well, champagne, of course! Artisanal breads and cheeses, fresh organic fruits, berries and other seasonal produce, French pastries... Oh what the hell, since it's all paid for, let's bring along a personal chef with a portable cooktop to prepare meals for us on the bus when we're not dining at great regional restaurants!

My Huz is a GREAT cook!!! Let's bring him along!! :)

Niner ...
I just heard on the news Sharapova has dropped out of the open. Her leg is not healing, she says.

Can't wait for the open tomorrow!

Oh no!!! I was so looking forward to see her play - that's to bad! Thanks for letting me know! Yes, tomorrow - the U.S. Open!! Can't wait!

My Huz is feeling a bit better tonight and will be cooking my birthday dinner early, as he doesn't know "how" he will feel tomorrow, so might as well do it now! LOL! Having steak and baked potatoes, or rice, he's not sure yet!

Anyway, just stopped by to see what's going on! :gathering: See ya all tomorrow!

Depending on how adventurous you are, I would also recommend getting accommodations through AirB&B. A much more authentic experience than staying at a hotel, and sometimes nicer and cheaper!

That's what my Huz and I plan to do IF we get to Europe next year - just drive and stop at any "quaint" B&B along the way!

Later!

My dh has found the bus he wants to drive. The first one. With a car. He said he'd need his down time away from women. I told him to keep looking.

Hey all. Hope everyone is doing great. I am really bogged down at work and have a fractured bone in my foot.

How is our sweet virginal flower murderer doing at the big house?

Well, it's two in the morning here at Baylor Medical. DH has more kidney stones. I told him to have a baby but he's just being a big baby himself. They ask for ten percent up front so I guess this is going to be several thousand. It won't affect our roadtrip, Hatfield and him can take turns driving. Let's hope he can drive over bridges.

Here's hoping he feels better real soon, Page!

Just imagine that your knees are wedged up against the (hard and unyielding) seat in front of you, and not having enough room to the right or left to move in such a way as to get relief. Then imagine sitting like that for hours.

Thanks, airlines! Hope you're enjoying all that money you're making from reconfiguring the seating (in your dangerously old jetliners), leaving average-height people virtually no leg room...

As it stands, I can barely make it to California (5.30+ hours) without crying in pain.

OUCH! I must admit I am 5'1" when I stand on my tippy toes :giggle: Always envied taller people...

Since the 'sky is the limit' on our trip, you will have a super-duper-deluxe-custom-seat with all the room you need :) :)

NEW YORK CHEESECAKE
Ingredients
15 graham crackers, crushed (1-1/2 C. of crumbs)
1/4 C butter, melted
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 C white sugar
4 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3/4 cup milk
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch springform pan.
In a medium bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs with melted butter. Press onto bottom of springform pan.
In a large bowl, mix cream cheese with sugar until smooth. Blend in milk, and then mix in the eggs one at a time, mixing just until blended. Mix in sour cream, vanilla and flour to smooth. Pour filling into crust.
Bake for 1 hour. Turn the oven off, and let cake cool in oven with the door closed for 5 to 6 hours; this prevents cracking. Chill in refrigerator until serving.

Gah.........the foot is a major bummer! The tendons that wrap under my heal are still trying to recover, still have random razor blade type sensations, and the bottom of my heal is numb from time to time.
Picking up a treadmill tomorrow so I can start running on it because the stretching exercises are taking WAY too long.
Wasn't even going to try to run around this area, last thing I need to do is hit a cow pie and twist an ankle!
