Niner ... I'm a bit nervous about the match tonight!
Welcome home from your trip.![]()
Awe, Gigi, thank you so much for sharing this. I can only hope it didn't bring back too many painful memories, but rather the great memories you shared together. I have the utmost admiration and respect for you. You're running neck and neck with our beloved Zuri! I think you may have missed your calling!
I've always believed that comatose patients are aware of our presence and do hear us. That, of course, is just my opinion. I had a doctor walk in one day while I was reading a local newspaper to a friend who was in a coma. He asked if I worked at the hospital, lol! When I told him I was just a friend, he suggested I rethink my path in life and get into the medical profession.
After reading your many posts and getting to know you as a 'cyber' friend, there's no doubt in my mind that you raised your kids with the same love, integrity, empathy and compassion that you've shown, thus no repercussions when you were where you needed to be. I believe you instilled in your kids the love and guidance needed, thus they knew this was a priority, without feeling neglected. You 'done' good, girl!
Thanks for understanding, but more importantly, thanks for caring.Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
Same age?! Awesome! I can only wish that I get to meet all of you, here in the SB thread, someday. When's the bus tour???!!!
BTW, Gigi, have you ever considered writing about your experiences with TBI? I think it would be a best seller.
Oh yeah, my TBI wasn't diagnosed until the early nineties when I took a seizure at work. We didn't have cat scans available, locally, at that time. I suffered so much pain that may have been alleviated and possibly some of the side effects/residual symptoms that are causing the ongoing problems may have been treatable (?). That's life and nobody ever said it was fair!
On a side note, I've responded to this post about 8 times now, yet Chrome keeps freezing up. So I hope I can get this posted tonight!
Oh my goodness, Jasper, you're too kind. I was certainly no hero when I was going through that, and doubted my decisions on an hourly basis. Also, lived on pure adrenalin during that time, which made me further doubt my thinking. But still, sometimes you have to go with your gut. I think I just did what any person would do for their soul-mate, given the situation. I am still sad that he is gone, but have found within myself the strength to go on. Mostly, it comes from being grounded by my kids. And, oh yeah, LOW expectations!
I am so proud of my kids and would like to think I had some part in them becoming such great people. Truth is though, they surprise me with their goodness on a daily basis, even as I'm mentally flogging myself for my shortcomings. Seems like just when life starts feeling like a struggle, they find a way to bring me back down to earth, and appreciate all I have. Forever grateful for them.
Next bus stop: Umm, somewhere in Canada!
DID YOU KNOW
In my little world, items like cream of tartar (potassium bitartrate) are not simply a super way to stabilize egg whites but also scandalously inexpensive cleaning secrets.
This long-forgotten gem of a cleaning agent may be used with a little water or vinegar to lift even the most stubborn stains. Unattractive grout driving you batty? Mold and mildew stains got you reaching for the Prozac? Burner pans and casserole dishes giving you fits? Cream of Tartar is your new best friend.
Cream of tartar is one of natures best bleaching agents. Cream of tartar, a.k.a crusted wine, is mixed with baking soda to create baking powder (bet you didn't know that.. okay, some of you probably did, you smartypants). While it is an acid, its not harmful. Its an acidic salt which comes from grapes.
Use a few tablespoons of cream of tartar with hot water or hydrogen peroxide and clean any aluminum pans which have discoloration or any rusty drains, pans, or stains.
Do you have copper kettles? Mix some cream of tarter with lemon juice and rub the copper with it. Rinse and be amazed!
How about a porcelain sink, tub, commode? Rub the porcelain surfaces with cream of tartar and watch the stains disappear.
Fabric stains? No prob. Mix a few teaspoons of cream of tartar with some glycerin and use like spray-and-wash. The results? Well, Im here to tell you that this stuff cured the ring around Joshuas shirt collars.
Just need a great nonabrasive cleaner? Mix 2 teaspoons of vinegar and 2 teaspoon of cream of tartar in a small dish (use 3 or 4 teaspoons of vinegar and 3 or 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar if you have more items to clean). Apply with your cleaning rag or scrub brush and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Scrub. Wash with hot soapy water.
GigiG, where did they learn compassion and understanding to become those adults? Children live what they learn. Seems like they had a very good example in front of them.
Susza, I will send you the Ultimate Cloth from here. No worries. I already sent The "New Yorker" on Charlie Hebdaut to Paris. No problem sending cloths lol.Thank you very much, Jasper, for your efforts concerning the Ultimate Cloth. I hope you'll get a positive answer.
Now, some more US Open and then off to bed. Will have to get up at 6.30... At school from 8 to 3.
I've always wanted to see the Bay of Fundy and it's tides.
My brain won't seem to shut off from all these damn meds. My body is crying "Uncle", but my brain won't say quit. I am working with one arm and a totally blown lumbar spine and I have been abandoned in my quest to get my house right by the people who supposedly live here. I think they may be in shock lol. Good old Prednisone.
Hope you all are doing well. I am having a fun trip down memory lane discovering artwork, needlework, collectibles and antiques that I had forgotten about. I want you all to come over when my house is done for a party. I certainly have enough dishes, crystal, serving wares to make it a fun night. Xoxo
