Why are those people in the pic sitting in those funny-looking chairs???

Is that a "haha" or a real question? Having read through the many comments (which put this photo/comment in context), this is apparently a real photo of elderly snowbirds leaving Western Michigan once winter has set in...

Who could blame them?

I must be in the 3rd group: "a third control group did a task which involved looking for information on the internet."

This study was not so great, IMO, because of this factor: ("questionable results", as my former professor of research methods class would say :scared:)

"... this outcome was based on a self-report by the participants. There wasn’t any independent or objective verification, meaning that something as simple as people feeling more confident about themselves after having competed the study could skew the results..."

But an interesting article none-the-less.

Thanks for posting :seeya:

My thoughts exactly...

That was a real question and was just wondering (because I'm a nosy person  and  )

What great chairs for the elderly at the airport.

Well- it's that time (according to my body clock and the $%#^ time change) where I turn into a chicken if I don't get ready for bed real soon , so goodnight. :seeya:

1960 - Wings of a Dove - Ferlin Husky hit the charts. I had a friend that said she was on her way to a dance and this song was playing and she sang along. She had to sit on a pillow she was so short, and she said she'd teased her hair so high it was hitting the headliner. I miss her.

1996 - Divers have discovered the ancient port of Alexandria from 2000 years ago which was swallowed by the sea and contains the ruins of Cleopatras Palace and Mark Anthony's home and temple when the Roman warrior was in Egypt. Divers have found thousands of artifacts dating back to 323BC to 30BC and many of the original columns are still standing and in remarkable condition.

2009 - The deadliest mass shooting at a US military installation occurs at Fort Hood, Texas, when US Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan kills 13 and wounds 29. He would be shown to have ties to the 911 bombers and the first bombing of the trade center in 1993. But he's not a terrorist - nope just a plain old workplace violence. He would be given the death penalty.

Thank you for posting this. I had no idea that these soldiers were denied benefits and care. I am appalled. I think this may prompt me to write a note to some people in high places....

Pages, when you posted the video of the Shah of Iran being ousted in 1979, it brought back memories and a name I had forgotten. A girl I went to school with in Switzerland was the daughter of one of the members of the Shah's inner circle and a government official. I believe her father was killed. So I googled her name which happened to come to me and I found her. I am so relieved to know that she is ok and I have thought of her often over the years worrying that her whole family was gone. Thank you for the prompt.

Now I'm trying to remember the first time I saw MM. I think it was in the movie "Frailty". Very good flick about demon killers, and pretty creepy too. :groucho:

I love that movie! It is very creepy and not much creeps me out.

I think I first saw MM in Dazed and Confused.

Language warning.

Oh wow, he looks so young, I never saw that movie.

I agree with your thinking on supplements for brain loss, Y/N. That is excellent info you listed, also.
i think the best thing we can do is to keep our brains active. I do believe working puzzles (hidden objects, word search, crosswords, number puzzles, etc) and reading help to keep our brains from losing some function. Definitely not a cure, but incredibly helpful. Anything that stimulates our mental abilities. And of course, eating healthy, decent sleep, and getting at least moderate exercise .... moving is stimulating.

Yes Spell, everything you said makes perfect sense. I hope I can do better on finding the "hidden objects." I remember as a child, having a heck of a time sometimes finding "Waldo" :giggle:

Strong winds this morning. There won't be many leaves after today if it keeps up like this It blows hard, then calms down for a few seconds, then huffs and puffs some more. When it rains, the wind just blows it in sheets down the street.

How is it your way, Nore?

Dazed + Confused is one of my all time favorite movies because it reminds me so much of my own 70's growing up. We used to hang out in the Foosball Hall just like they had in that movie.

The "Foosball Hall" was a unique place that got created shortly before Disco got invented. The Foosball Hall was kind of like a Pool Hall but had a much different atmostphere.

Our place had Foosball Tables lined up on both sides of the room and the best ones were reserved in this back room where the main Foosball Tournaments were held.

There were 2 main brands of tables. Dynamo + Tornado tables. I loved the Dynamo the best because they were easier to use. The Tornado tables had soccer men that were harder to control the ball because their feet pads were a little more slippery on the ball.

In the Foosball Hall, there was a definite ETIQUETTE that you had to maintain. No Drinks at all were allowed to be placed on either side of the table. Because they didn't want people spilling drinks onto the table. No spinning the men. You had to play the game the right way where you controlled the men and it took hours and hours and days and days to get good at it. It took me about a year before I finally got pretty good at it.

No beer or alcholol inside the place because us teens were allowed inside. You paid a nightly admission and they stamped your hand and you had access to OPEN TABLES all night long.

You could come and go and it was just like a "Club" to get back inside they used to use those Black Lights to light up your glow stamp on your hand stamp.
Inside the club they had cool lights in back with more black lights and posters in a back room.
Everyone would leave to take "smoke breaks" and it was common to smoke a little weed and then come back in to play foosball. Like in the movie, everyone wanted "Shotgun" when the driver hauled about 4 of us off for a break drive in the country.

8-tracks were the music used in the cars back then. OMG that is another whole topic. You had to put matchbook under the 8-track cassette to keep the road bumps from skipping the music. The 8-tracks were notorious for "dragging" too and a good hit of your hand onto the unit ususally took care of it. LOL

Back in the foosball hall, the owners and older kids did a great job of controlling us kids. There was seldom any fights because most people were high on weed and "mellow". Rock and Roll music was typically played in the background.

The Foosball Hall fad did not last long. It seemed to come and go within about a 5-8 year span. They kind of died out by early eighties it seemed.

That movie had so many things that were "spot on" for the era of the time. Our high school also had keg parties in the field of some known property where all the kids would just park in the field and just hang out and drink. You had to pay a "Head Charge" just like the movie. Also, there was always 1 or 2 fights break out at those keg parties just like in the movie.

Whoever wrote the script for that movie had obviously lived through those times.
Practically every situation they used were things from that era. Even going around smashing mailboxes....although I think kids still do that today as our street got all our mailboxes smashed about 5 years ago. LOL

Glad she is ok. I knew friends from Lebanon and the "People" are actually good people. Its the darn leaders and political crud that causes problems between countries. I have hope that someday we can have good relations with countries like Iran. I watch "Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown" when he went to Iran and the people seem nice and want things to get better. The leaders and political stuff gets in the way.

BTW that is an interesting show when he went to Iran. Irans government ended up arresting the man Bourdain interviewed and I think he is still being held captive. He is an American national that was living in Iran and Bourdain interviewed him on the show. Iran government took him prisoner with this wife after the show aired. The guy said nothing wrong about the country and it is crazy that they arrested him.

There is a conspiracy theory that Ahmadinejad was in the Iran Hostage crisis as an acting member. It would make sense because he hates America so much.
Link below talks about if he was at the Iran Hostage Crisis. It sure looks like him to me.

Actually, The lights are daylight lights, giving the same type of pure light as the sun without the harmful rays. I will try and find an example to post. Walgreens has them for $30 or so. Ott Lights are another example. They were recommended to me by my therapist for mood heightening (if that is the right word). I think I would like a grow light though if I had plants. It is probably the same premise, just packaged and advertised differently.

Thank you. I didn't realize there were lights like that. I am going to get me one.

That's what I love about visiting everyone here. I learn so much. Thanks everyone.

Nore, how are you doing today? You are such an inspiration and I just love your posts. Hope you are ok. Xo

Hi Spellbound, we have the same thing here. I can hear it in the house, unusual. had some rain too. As long as it doesn't snow I'm ok with it , will hang on to Molly!!

It Is supposed to be 79 here today and I doubt we make it. It is overcast, breezy with leaves falling at a fast rate. I have the AC on 65 so it stays cool in the house and I can breathe better. I don't know how much longer I can mentally handle the house being in such a state of destruction. It is overwhelming so I guess that means I am feeling better lol.

I am going to hire a cleaning person to come and help clean and organize as there is drywall/spackle dust everywhere downstairs. I swear dirt migrates. I just want someone to do the thinking for me and figure out where things should go. My mattresses got delivered and they are propped up in the hallway. Seriously. I am making little headway in my closet as I get so tired so fast. Something has got to give.

Do you all ever feel this way? Overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation?
