1938 - Nazis kill 35 Jews, arrest thousands and destroy Jewish synagogues, homes and stores throughout Germany. The event becomes known as Kristallnacht, the night of the shattered glass. WWII made it possible for the Jews to return home to their God given land of Israel. They were dispersed after the Romans laid siege against Jerusalem in 70 AD.

Jumping off your post:

I seem to notice shoes and handbags on women or it is just what registers as I take in the whole person. You can tell a lot about a person by their facial expression, what they are wearing, posture and tone of voice if you are speaking with them. I think it is some unconscious or subconscious, primal thing we do as you see animals, like dogs, do it all the time, to see whether the other person is friend or foe.

I happen to like shoes and handbags, so they would probably register in my brain somewhere. Women tend to judge other women by appearance and size them up. When did we learn to do this? No clue. In fashion magazines, the experts will tell you to lead with your designer handbag when you enter a room if you don't know a lot of people....assuming everyone has one lol.

I am sure your shoes are perfect! I can't wear heels at all as I fall over, so I am envious of anyone who can. Flats are where it is! How women can walk in any heel over 3" is beyond me.

The shoes I wear the most are Ariat clogs (not boots). I have a thing about sitting with one foot under my butt, so I like being able to slip my feet out of my shoes. I don't think they're particularly attractive, but they are comfortable and very well made!

As for handbags, I am definitely not on the fashion radar. I have a nice Winn shoulder bag that I paid good money for, probably 10 years ago. At this point, it's certainly seen better days, but it has served me very well. I recently bought needles for leather so I can repair it on my own. I can't find anything to take its place, and believe me, I've looked! If I could find one, I would buy it, but in the meantime, I'm just going to keep this old thing going for as long as I can.

I hope people don't judge me on either my bag or my shoes. I'm just doing the best I can with what I've got. :)

1989 - Communist East Germany threw open its borders, allowing citizens to travel freely to the West. Joyous Germans danced atop the Berlin Wall.

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving , then Christmas ALREADY!!! Yikes!!! What to do, what to do... I'm not even in the mood for Holidays. :sheesh:

So, I have my cable Holiday music on, it's helping a little. :) Is anyone else having a problem getting in the Holiday Spirit besides me?

We actually did a little dance routine to this in our High School gym class, can you imagine?! LOL :floorlaugh: I really do love this song though. :happydance:

As a horse person, I love Ariat boots and clogs so I certainly understand why you like them. Their clogs are my shoe of choice when walking in NYC as they are that comfortable. Their riding boots, both tall boots and paddock boots are so well made and last a really long time while not being treated with a lot of care sometimes.

You have brains and beauty going for you so you don't necessarily need to have a designer handbag.

I looked in the mirror and I am smart enough to realize: Designer Handbag required.

As an aside, German Shepherd Dog breeding changed when the wall came down. Many GSD breeders use both East and West in their breeding programs now as each part of Germany had developed their own "type" which were in need of an infusion of different gene pools. I had forgotten as to how short a time it has been in all reality.

Thanksgiving is so late this year and the time will fly by and before you know, Cjristmas will be upon us. Have you put up your decorations? IIRC, you were getting your artificial trees out to decorate. I am not that organized and actually, all of our decorations are in the POD sitting in my driveway.

They start to sell live trees here around Thanksgiving and we normally get ours the first weekend in December. At least we did before 2009. Last year was the first time since then that we actually got a tree and decorated it. I used to make everyone go to pick it out, but interest waned and it became harder to do and then I got sick. No one was particularly interested in doing the tree unfortuna be beautifully decorated trees. Please share your pics!

I don't know how different it is between here and Delaware, but I buy my trees at Home Depot; if you go early enough you have a pretty good selection. Depending on the type of tree, it could be as little as $20-$30. Not the same kind of fun/romantic/nostalgia-invoking experience, but it works for me!

I had no idea they sold Chritmas trees. Then again, I didn't know Costco sold Christmas trees either. All these years we have paid a premium for the same trees. I like Frazier firs. Do they have them there?

I am definitely not in the mode for holidays to be coming. I still have a lot of cleaning to do and the energy faded. sigh .... expecting it to be quiet days here for Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is fine with me.

The weather has been very nice this week, comfortably cool but not cold. Makes it difficult to think of Christmas being just around the corner. And not one gift bought or even considered. double-sighhh

I can't see a thing I accomplished today, but I sure was busy, busy, busy. Off to zzzzzz's now.

I am hoping you all might remember the name of a French chef who died maybe 10 plus years ago. He had his own show on PBS maybe? And appeared on Letterman for cooking segments. I don't think the Food channel was on tv so I don't think he appeared there. I have been racking my brain trying to remember his name. I know the show wasn't the "Galloping Gourmet" but it was something clever along that order. I would be so grateful if someone could clue me in. TIA

Hi Zuri , was it the "Frugal Gourmet" ? My son (when married) loved to watch that show. Joe wasn't into cooking but really liked the program..gave him ideas for quick meals. I used to love "I can See Clearly Now" but now it makes me cry , memories...Take care.

Just popped in here to see if you guys were discussing Kirk L Nurmi's book being published and sold today- I kid you not- Trapped With Jodi Arias
You can find the link on his Twitter feed or go to the other thread. I am on my phone so I can't cut and paste right now!
