I don't know how different it is between here and Delaware, but I buy my trees at Home Depot; if you go early enough you have a pretty good selection. Depending on the type of tree, it could be as little as $20-$30. Not the same kind of fun/romantic/nostalgia-invoking experience, but it works for me!
That is a good price on a tree.
We used to go to a tree farm where they purposely grew them in rows just for Christmas trees and we would cut one fresh and it was really neat and fun. I didn't feel bad about cutting the tree since the only purpose of the farm is for christmas trees.
They were a little expensive but the smell of them were really nice. You just have to be sure to keep the bottom in water right after you cut it before the pores close up.
To prevent having to rush what we did was just cut an extra inch or so off the bottom right as we were putting it up. That way the bottom got fresh pores for the water.
You can always tell if your tree is doing good by how much water it drinks. It is amazing how much water they take down when fresh cut like that. The first day I would have to wake up in middle of night just to water the tree more so it wouldn't dry up. After a couple days it slows down and then just water once a day.
The reason I am mentioning the fresh trees is I miss them. About 3 years ago wife talked me into buying an artificial from QVC that has the lights already mounted to the tree.
We are a little disappointed in going that route. It does look nice and its a little easier to setup each year by just going to the attic to get it.
But the lights on it went out and its impossible to find which bulbs are bad. And you cant get the old lights off the tree because they are sewed into the limbs. So we just string regular lights on top of the lights that dont work. LOL
And the thing is very heavy trying to haul down from attic. They weigh a lot.
All in All it works out ok but I do miss the real smell of a real tree. The real trees give off a natural air freshener of pine smell for the first month or so and I do miss that.
I suppose its whatever people prefer. Im at the point where I want to leave the fake tree in the attic and get a fresh one this year for a change.
But yea, i too am not ready for the holidays quite yet. QVC got me burned out already by having their Christmas sales on stuff for about a month now. LOL
It seems QVC starts earlier and earlier each year.
We tend to watch QVC like an entertainment show without actually buying stuff. But it is dangerous viewing because they sometimes talk us into buying something that we needed like a hole in the head. LOL
Like our "Slice-O-matic" slicer/dicer/chopper/chipper thingamabob. It sits on the counter and whenever we need to slice something up we do like normal folks and grab a sharp knife instead because we can never figure out how to use the fancy thing. And who wants to clean those devices anyway. LOL
