There is a nationally known artist named Shawn Faust who is local to me. He painted Barbaro in 2008 for the Jacksons, making many trips up to New Bolton to take pictures and study him to capture his essence. The Jacksons allowed him to make prints from the original and I purchased one which he framed for me. He dropped the giclee print by my husband's office this afternoon. OMG!!!! Is this horse not gorgeous!!!

I have long admired Shawn's work and have dreamed of having a commissioned portrait of Knox done by him. My husband told Shawn about Knox's close brush with death, yet again, and asked Shawn to paint Knox. For me. An original. For me.

Shawn's work is in demand and he is generally 6-8 months out, but now knowing how precarious Knox's health is, he is going to go to the barn and take pictures next week. So whether Knox is alive next month or next year, I will have him immortalized like the brilliant Barbaro is here should things work out. How incredible is this!

I am speechless. Even with Prednisone.

I have a good friend in Tennessee. I have several reproductions of his. Maria, Moses, Four Star Quilt and several others. I sat in his studio and watched him paint Abandoned In Place, and I have an original pen and ink sketch that he gave to me.

Good Morning SB Friends :yourock: It's a wet, dreary Halloween and rain and more rain!

Yesterday afternoon, many of the businesses gave out treats for the kids. The local hospital gave out from each dept different treats and I must say that they were very ingenious with what they came up with! The ER made up little mummy's out of candy bars, wrapped them in gauze and glued wiggle eyes on them. Lab gave out clear/hollow vampire teeth with fake blood pour into the teeth. Another dept made little ghost and put mini marshmallows' in it and put a tag on it saying 'Ghost Poop'. The Pulmonary Dept gave the kids candy cigarettes' and printed out labels that said, "DO NOT SMOKE". :waitasec: I'm still thinking on this one...LOL But all in all the kids had fun and came home with tons of candy, and yes, mamaw swiped some!

No matter how tight I wrap his band around his top knot. Squeaks always manages too get it out. I am telling him, 'why did you do that again'? And this is the look he gave me...."but mom, I didn't do it'. I am innocent!

Niner, thanks for the heads-up on a new Scarpetti series. Make sure to let us (me) know if it is as good as her others. I have enjoyed Patricia Cornwell books a lot.

Zuri, I am sooo excited that you will be getting the painting of your beautiful horse! Congrats!!

BBM: That was very interesting about the cortisol levels. Is there a way to have it checked? That sounds exactly what I feel like when I get gigantic ally exhausted. It seems I am thinking in slow motion and can't get my words out .... and I burst into tears. Or I am staring at a pot on the stove wondering what the heck am i supposed to be doing with this thing? Oh the joys of CFS at times.

Glad you might be able to avert a setback. (((hugs)))

I don't know that much about CFS other than it can be so debilitating.

http://www.womenshealth.gov/publications/our-publications/fact-sheet/chronic-fatigue-syndrome.html#

I know several women who have been diagnosed with it and have been able to diminish some of the symptoms using an anti depressant, vitamins, nutrition, pain meds, hormone replacement therapy and antibiotics. Unfortunately, there is no pin pointed cause which is why NIH has expanded their research.

IMO CFS acts a lot like tertiary Lymes with both vital and bacterial components. It can be so debilitating as well as frustrating. I am so sorry you have this as it must be like Ground Hogs Day on a daily basis. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

I am sure your doctors have checked your am and pm cortisol, hormone, 24 hour glucose levels, but it never hurts to repeat them as they vary with age and time. I am horrible at following up with my medical treatment, and I have let things go that I am solely responsible for. So consider this the pot calling if applicable.

This may sound premature, but has anybody heard from Bernina? This is a woman who ended a years long relationship with an unstable man and she hasn't posted since the Oct 23rd.
Am I the only one really concerned? I do tend to always fear the worst, but I'm really worried about her.

She has a new beau in Phoenix so my best guess is she's doing happy things with him. Don't worry about her. :)

I agree with Daisy. I bet she is just happy for the first time in a long time and that can be so freeing. Ahhh. That rush you get when you fall in love. No appetite. Incredible energy. Feeling great. Euphoria. Dreamy. Walking on air.

I need a boy toy.

Question for folks who have hardwood floors. I put in pecan floors about 15 years ago and just pulled up my dining room rug and it is lighter in color underneath where the rug was. Do you think that if I let the Sun hit it for a few months it will change colors and blend in?

This puppy is so dang cute. My shepherds are 94 and 107 lbs. respectively and they would think he was a stuffed animal at first lol. Our neighbors had a Yorkie and Chayton loved him. Unlike the schnauzer he went after in my cul de sac that cost me $270. I have had the K9 trainers coming as I can't have that at all. Zuri gets it, but Chayton is a little slow. I never figured he would have the higher prey drive or protective instinct as Zuri does, but apparently it shows up later in males. He is just not as assertive/aggressive as Zuri appears to be.

I think it would be so much fun to have a little dog I could put in my purse lol. Mine take up the whole car!

Did you have a rug pad underneath? The oils from the carpet will sometimes discolor the hardwood. The sun will lighten your floor more all the way around. Been here. Done that. The hard way.
ETA: I think there is a way to blend them using a Bona product that makes it less noticeable. Otherwise, can you just put the rug back?

Bernina has a beau?? How did I miss that?

How lucky are you!!! A portrait of Knox!
I Googled Mr Faust and found his website : http://www.shawnfaust.com/
He's a wonderful painter. and doesn't only paint horses, but I think he paints horses mainly because he must love them (like you do):

Oh my, but they are beautiful. It seems as if I could reach in and pet them, feeling their lovely warmth under my hands. And that dog looks almost exactly like our youngest.

The worst part was getting a diagnosis and a doctor who believed in CFS. I guess we all have to find the regimen that works for us, and learn to not push too far beyond what a day will allow. Some days are good, some are the kind that you want to live in PJ's. I will have to ask about that cortisol testing, though. I can't recall ever having that done.

Morning all!

Oh shoot - I missed all the tennis games this morning, as I slept in... until 9:30am!!! WOW! Haven't slept that late in a very long time! LOL! I guess I needed the sleep!

Oh - forgot to mention before - my thyroid tests came back - and they are all okay! So, I guess I lost all that weight walking around the Song Festival and jumping up and down for the Huz! :happydance: Hope it stays off!

Beautiful pictures from that artist! I love cows!! :moo: Maybe cause we had some in our backyard when I was kid and would go visit them and steal some of their salt!

Happy Halloween everyone!!

They used to have a paste wax that was tinted colors like a stain that you used. I think it's by Johnsons. You might try that and see if it works. We have eighty five year old oak hardwood floors that I used to wax once a month. Down on my knees, rubbing in circles and by the time I was done at the end of the room was time to start buffing which I also did by hand until dh got me a Bissell floor buffer. All these newfangled things take away the exercise I used to get, but I'm not complaining. I also use Old English furniture polish.

Update: World’s first head transplant patient schedules procedure for 2017
dis-like-smiley.gif

"...Dr. Sergio Canavero, an Italian neurosurgeon, will perform the procedure on Spiridonov. The procedure is expected to last up to 36 hours, and it will require Spiridonov’s head be cooled as well as the donor’s body to extend the period during which the cells can survive without oxygen, CEN reported..."

Human head transplant edges closer to reality: Chinese surgeon teams up with Italian doctor to perform controversial procedure in 2017

"Sergio Canavero from Italy will partner with Chinese surgeon Ren Xiaoping

Dr Xiaoping has performed some 1,000 head transplants on mice so far (note: some mice are pictured)

Duo will plan the head transplant procedure intended for Valery Spiridonov, a 30-year-old computer scientist who has muscular atrophy

Robert Berdella: The Butcher of Kansas City

"...The house belonged to Robert Berdella, the man who would become Kansas City's most notorious serial killer. Prior to his arrest, Berdella was that serial killer cliché, someone neighbors described as a nice man who kept to himself. He helped start a neighborhood watch program, had worked as a chef, wrote restaurant reviews for the Kansas City Star, and ran his own booth at the Westport Flea Market...

In one of the only interviews he ever gave before his death, Berdella expressed his displeasure over the songs and the media coverage of his murders, claiming that the media "dehumanized" him just as he had dehumanized his victims. Berdella referred to himself as "the neighbor next door, who reached a point in his life where he could do monstrous acts; that's not the same thing as being a monster."..."

What the heck are people doing to themselves now? Cryotherapy??? :gaah: Rediculous and sad- very sad, IMO

Woman Found 'Frozen In Solid Ice' Inside Cryotherapy Chamber (UPDATE)
Officials say that her body had been in the chamber for at least 10 hours.

"...A Henderson, Nevada, cryotherapy center manager froze to death inside one of the business's freezing chambers, according to local news station KSNV.
The frozen body of Chelsea Ake, 24, was discovered by a fellow employee last Tuesday at Rejuvenice, a beauty salon that specializes in cryotherapy, the deep-freezing beauty and medical treatments.

Nevada's Occupational and Safety Health Administration told KSNV that Ake was in the chamber for at least 10 hours before she was found and may have suffocated by inhaling the cooling nitrogen gases emitted into the chamber..."

Life in Supermax: The Real Haunted House

"October is a month traditionally dedicated to spooky shenanigans and nightmarish monsters. As Halloween draws near, our collective imaginations run wild -- courtesy of horror flicks, eerie exhibits, and a fascination with the dark side.

However, there's nothing imaginary about America's real-life haunted house -- the USP ADX Florence Supermax Prison, located 100 miles south of Denver, Colorado. Dubbed a "cleaner version of hell" by one former warden, Florence opened in 1994 as the only Supermax facility in the United States penitentiary system. Its stark, isolated cell blocks currently house 403 male inmates who have been declared too violent for even maximum-security incarceration..."

Searching for Names on an Island of Graves

"...Hart Island, a 100-acre swath of land nestled between the Bronx and Queens, has been the final resting place for an estimated three-quarters of a million people since the city acquired it in 1869. Why does she have to have a new love interest to be happy and have fun

Can't she just be free for the first time in a long time and be happy for that? She may be just hanging out with friends and isn't that nice. :)

Boy Toy??? :shame: Zuri, you bad girl, you. :bigstick:
