Oh Zuri thank you. I'm ok except for divertic cramps knees, cough, runny nose (allergy),backaches like hell.. I'm going to lie down with Molly and rub a tummy!
She loves that..You take care..((hugs));

It Is supposed to be 79 here today and I doubt we make it. It is overcast, breezy with leaves falling at a fast rate. I have the AC on 65 so it stays cool in the house and I can breathe better. I don't know how much longer I can mentally handle the house being in such a state of destruction. It is overwhelming so I guess that means I am feeling better lol.

I am going to hire a cleaning person to come and help clean and organize as there is drywall/spackle dust everywhere downstairs. I swear dirt migrates. I just want someone to do the thinking for me and figure out where things should go. My mattresses got delivered and they are propped up in the hallway. Seriously. I am making little headway in my closet as I get so tired so fast. Something has got to give.

Do you all ever feel this way? Overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation?

I am totally with you. I was just doing some cleaning last night and managed to make a dent in one room.

The problem I have is there is just no more room for "stuff". I have things stacked on top of each other and have bins out the gazooka. I have bins stacked on top of other bins.

So whenever I try to clean all that seems to get accomplished is moving stuff from one place to another and doesnt really make the room any better. I have finally concluded that I need to donate a bunch of "stuff" to Goodwill and just get rid of it.

I had a garage sale this summer and it helped but I was like one of those people on the shows where I had 2 piles when preparing for the sale.
. A KEEP pile and a SELL pile. I was a stubborn old mule and everything went to the KEEP pile. I have got to just get rid of things because no room.

One thing I may do is deck more of the attick so I have more storage. I don't have a lot of attic space because none of it is hardly decked. So if I can deck more of the attick then I can store more up there.

But I have realized that I just need to sacrifice and get rid of stuff. So next summer I am going to bite the bullet and give up some "stuff". Its hard to part with because some cool stuff but it serves no purpose except to shift it around all the time.

I had read somewhere that a rule of thumb to get rid of things is if you haven't touched it or used it in 2 years then you don't need it.

I am beginning to agree with that rule because as I try to clean the house and keep running into the same stuff that I just keep shifting from one place to another and really never use it anymore. Time to sell it or donate it or burn it. LOL

I was doing good with getting rid of "extras" and making less clutter in the storage areas. I did manage to get the "pantry" area much more organized. Tossed a lot, gave a lot away, and the summer yard sale went very well. Got the back mudroom somewhat organized, too. Now I am starting in the "storage" area that has been everything from a small library to a place for overload of purses (addicted to bags, I am ) and miscellaneous --- and I have run out of steam. I was hoping to get that room finished today, but I need to put it onhold. sigh..... maybe next week will go better.

Sorry about all that, Nore. I am feeling some of the same. I think it is a good day for a couch potato snooze with my two pups. Enjoy your rest with Molly.

I have managed to get EVERYTHING out of the attic, nothing left in storage in there. It sure made me feel better as the only thing I would go back to get from there was Christmas stuff. I whittled that down to one large container and the artificial tree and store it downstairs now.

I had read somewhere that a rule of thumb to get rid of things is if you haven't touched it or used it in 2 years then you don't need it.

Indeed! We are gung-ho on the theory "less is better" here. It makes it much easier to clean around, too.

Some day I may reach that goal. Working at it, slow but sure.

here you go:

On a different note, I also like the idea of this light, since I can't stand alarm clocks:

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-HF352..._UL160_SR113,160_&refRID=0GJV8RXS1A1PHBV7SVHQ

Same for me: I really don't like alarm clock as I think it's awfull to start a new day by being terrified.
That's why I bought a Philips similar to the one you linked to and I really like it. The only regret is that I don't find that it's a nice design. I love design lamps...

I saw a deer today, munching on some bushes-a little passed my side yard- and felt very sad because I only saw one. Deer usually go around in groups.

But then I saw another not too far away and felt better. Those $%#%& hunters. :stormingmad:

"Stay near the house", I said in my thoughts, "and be safe" (but I know they will not). :(

Death Penalty Foes Split Over Taking Issue to Supreme Court

"WASHINGTON — In the long legal struggle against the death penalty, the future has in some ways never looked brighter.

In a passionate dissent in June, Justice Stephen G. Breyer invited a major challenge to the constitutionality of capital punishment. This fall, Justice Antonin Scalia all butpredicted that the court’s more liberal justices would strike down the death penalty.

But lawyers and activists opposed to the death penalty, acutely conscious of what is at stake, are bitterly divided about how to proceed. Some say it is imperative to bring a major case to the court as soon as practicable. Others worry that haste may result in a losing decision that could entrench capital punishment for years..."

Linda Ann Weston Gets Life Plus 80 Years in “Tacony Dungeon” Case

"A horrifying case from 2011 has finally come to a close, with 55-year-old Philadelphia woman Linda Ann Weston being sentenced Thursday to life in prison plus 80 years for holding disabled adults captive in the basement, closets and attic of a Tacony home.

In September, Weston pleaded guilty to all charges, which included racketeering, conspiracy, forced human labor, involuntary servitude, hate crimes, sex trafficking, and kidnapping, among other charges. Her motive? Money.

Weston invited mentally challenged adults to move into the house, with the condition being that she would receive their Social Security funds. She received their disability and other checks and took the money for herself, keeping them locked up to keep the funds flowing. In addition to the prison sentence, she was ordered to pay the Social Security Administration over $270,000..."

That reminds of the time we were planning on moving to Latvia last year (was it last year?) - anyway - my Huz was cleaning out the garage and just threw stuff away - not letting me know "what" of my stuff he threw out - have not missed what he threw out!

Gave most of my books, clothes to the thrift shops and Goodwill store here... at least some of the stuff went to "good" place!

Instead of those lights - I'll go outside! :happydance: and it sure is looking like and feeling like fall here! :autumn: The temps have been in the mid 60s - so I like that! Can wear my long sleeve shirts.

Okay - not much going on here... so off to read some of my other threads! :pcguru:

Later folks! :seeya:

Shoot, almost running out of pictures to share - I'll have find some more! :D

Dazed + Confused is one of my all time favorite movies because it reminds me so much of my own 70's growing up. We used to hang out in the Foosball Hall just like they had in that movie.

The "Foosball Hall" was a unique place that got created shortly before Disco got invented. The Foosball Hall was kind of like a Pool Hall but had a much different atmostphere.

Our place had Foosball Tables lined up on both sides of the room and the best ones were reserved in this back room where the main Foosball Tournaments were held.

There were 2 main brands of tables. Dynamo + Tornado tables. I loved the Dynamo the best because they were easier to use. The Tornado tables had soccer men that were harder to control the ball because their feet pads were a little more slippery on the ball.

In the Foosball Hall, there was a definite ETIQUETTE that you had to maintain. No Drinks at all were allowed to be placed on either side of the table. Because they didn't want people spilling drinks onto the table. No spinning the men. You had to play the game the right way where you controlled the men and it took hours and hours and days and days to get good at it. It took me about a year before I finally got pretty good at it.

No beer or alcholol inside the place because us teens were allowed inside. You paid a nightly admission and they stamped your hand and you had access to OPEN TABLES all night long.

You could come and go and it was just like a "Club" to get back inside they used to use those Black Lights to light up your glow stamp on your hand stamp.
Inside the club they had cool lights in back with more black lights and posters in a back room.
Everyone would leave to take "smoke breaks" and it was common to smoke a little weed and then come back in to play foosball. Like in the movie, everyone wanted "Shotgun" when the driver hauled about 4 of us off for a break drive in the country.

8-tracks were the music used in the cars back then. OMG that is another whole topic. You had to put matchbook under the 8-track cassette to keep the road bumps from skipping the music. The 8-tracks were notorious for "dragging" too and a good hit of your hand onto the unit ususally took care of it. LOL

Back in the foosball hall, the owners and older kids did a great job of controlling us kids. There was seldom any fights because most people were high on weed and "mellow". Rock and Roll music was typically played in the background.

The Foosball Hall fad did not last long. It seemed to come and go within about a 5-8 year span. They kind of died out by early eighties it seemed.

That movie had so many things that were "spot on" for the era of the time. Our high school also had keg parties in the field of some known property where all the kids would just park in the field and just hang out and drink. You had to pay a "Head Charge" just like the movie. Also, there was always 1 or 2 fights break out at those keg parties just like in the movie.

Whoever wrote the script for that movie had obviously lived through those times.
Practically every situation they used were things from that era. Even going around smashing mailboxes....although I think kids still do that today as our street got all our mailboxes smashed about 5 years ago. LOL

What is a "Foosball"? (do you mean football? - I keep on wanting to change the "s" to " t" )

Do you all ever feel this way? Overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation?

BBM I think you might be overwhelmed because you are thinking of the whole "job/mess"(too many things at once) and it does become :scared:

I always tell my sons, when faced with a large job- whatever it is- just think of one thing to accomplish at a time and then it becomes manageable in your mind.
Forget about the other things for now. Finish- then go to the next thing......
I think it's easier that way.

I am totally with you. I was just doing some cleaning last night and managed to make a dent in one room.

The problem I have is there is just no more room for "stuff". I have things stacked on top of each other and have bins out the gazooka. I have bins stacked on top of other bins.

BBM 1 Not good to just store them where you can't see, IMO. The stuff is still there. :sheesh:

BBM 2 Sounds like a better plan to me. It will make you life much "lighter" and you'll be able to "breathe". "Light and air" is my motto.:)

(I've been working on getting rid of excess stuff all year myself and it feels good to me, especially the thought of not leaving a large mess of stuff to my 2 sons- who really don't want it anyway :sheesh: )

Oh YESorNO just saw ALL your posts and links! :tyou:

I heard about the boy found in Ohio! You would "think" his father would know that his son's Soc. Sec. number would be "trouble"! Glad the mom knows where her boy is!

And the cat cartoons! here!

:tyou: will go and look at all your links you shared with us today!

:seeya:

I know what you mean, I have a lot of stuff too. I don't really "use" most of it, I just like to look at it, hehe. I have a few things I collected over the years, some I have gotten rid of the entire collection. But others, like my vintage dolls I can't part with because they make me happy. :happydance: I have just been mulling over for a couple of days now, what I can get rid of, and I can't think of anything. :sheesh:

You are right that there are some things that it is perfectly fine to keep as they do bring back good memories and are important to us on an emotional level. Some things are just too precious to part with and they do make us smile.

My biggest problem is way too much of my "stuff" falls into that category.
I think I am finally getting to the point where I will just keep the main things like that. And that's a big challenge to decide which finally goes to goodwill or next garage sale.

Keepers are things that make me smile when I see it and give a little happiness. Things like my first car's emblem that fell off. LOL
My Nascar Model collection. Way too priceless. LOL
My old concert T-shirts priceless. LOL ZZ-Top, Zeppelin, The Who, ELO, etc....yeah priceless to me. :) I never wear them anymore because I dont want them to fade. :)

But other things I am finally ready for it to go.
Things like my old magic kit when I was a child? ..... Yeah, I think that can finally go. LOL

My books from college?...... Yeah, they can finally go LOL

My autographed football from Joe Paterno where the ink faded so bad you cant even read his name?.......Yeah gotta go. Its unreadable and practically invisible signature-LOL. And especially since all the stuff that went down at Penn State

My Commodore 64 in the attic? Yeah, its time. LOL Hey, I may be able to make some money off of that on Ebay...Hmmmm

Lots of old clothes I never wear or don't fit.......Yeah, why did I keep these. LOL

Hmmmmmmm...what else can go?

Its no wonder I never got rid of things because it is so much easier to just keep it all and not have to make these tough decisions. :)

What is a "Foosball"? (do you mean football? - I keep on wanting to change the "s" to " t" )

FOOSBALL is a table soccer game that was very popular in mid to late 70's. They had foosball halls that were specifically for that game and lots of kids hung out at them all night till they closed. You get to see a Foosball Hall in the movie "Dazed and Confused". They portrayed the hangout there very well.

Its a great game and hard to learn to play well. It took quite a bit of skill to control the ball like the pros got good at it.
