Author Grippando wanted to do a NON-fiction book on the Casey Anthony trial, and had discussions with Baez about it.
But then the New York Post reported that Baez was meeting with Grippando's book agent Richard Pine of Inkwell Management, and the public was outraged and flooded Richard Pine with boycott threats and anger, and then all deals were OFF for Grippando to do the NON-fiction book -- so he wrote his FICTION book based on the Casey Anthony case and Baez.

Interesting that author Grippando was on MSNBC Morning Show ... and MSNBC did the supportive documentary of Baez, based on Baez' book.

"For several years I had considered writing a work of nonfiction. Jeffrey Toobin’s much acclaimed book about the O.J. Simpson trial had, in my mind, set the standard for the flood of books about the most watched trial in the history of American television. Public interest in Casey Anthony rivaled that of Simpson, and I wondered if there was a place on the bookshelves for a Toobin-like work on the Anthony trial"

"And my most recent book, Blood Money, also grew out of one of these, shall we say, “inconveniences.” In the summer of 2010 I was wondering which way to go with my next work, and my agent called. "
“I want you to talk to Jose Baez,” he said.
“He’s Casey Anthony’s lawyer.”

Public interest in Casey Anthony rivaled that of Simpson, and I wondered if there was a place on the bookshelves for a Toobin-like work on the Anthony trial. I had several telephone conversations with Mr. Baez over the summer of 2011. It turned out that he was a fan of my work, having read my first Jack Swyteck novel, The Pardon, while he was still in law school."

"Our discussions ended abruptly with another telephone call from my agent.
“We’re out,” Richard told me.

A New York Post report (July 25, 2011) that Jose Baez had “met with” my agent [Richard Pine of InkWell Management] went viral over the Internet. The backlash was overwhelming.

Maybe Baez is thinking of the piggyback effect - Grippando's book - Baez's book - and maybe he's getting a few royalities from Grippando - can't imagine Jose cooperating without a payout...:waitasec:

Wonder how fast I can get myself blocked by @Baezlaw on twitter. Nah I'd rather ignore him.

ETA: that looks like a spoof twitter accounty to me. Did he really say that was his account?

Just ask him if he realizes his peers call him Johnny Cockroach -not Juannie Cochran....:floorlaugh:

Bolded and blue by me. I think it's absolutely hysterical that his "background image" on Twitter shows Kathi Belich. Wonder if she knows how much he loves her?

Baez on Twitter with Kathi Belich background - Kathi's face is the only thing that makes his background tolerable!

Grippando did not need Baez' cooperation to do his own FICTION book.
Grippando would only have needed Baez' cooperation if he had been able to go through with the NON-fiction book on the case.

Yes, he bragged on his own Facebook page about the new Twitter page for his law firm. He posts on this Twitter page about his appearance on Geraldo with actor Oscar Nunez.

He just started the Twitter account on Dec 28th ... but still nobody cares!
Are his partners and their partners and children and his own family part of the "46 followers"?

"True Story: I remember New Years Eve in my second year of law school I could not decide if I was going to go out or not, the reason was because I was reading a novel called "The Pardon" that I could not put down. The story was about a Miami criminal defense lawyer named Jack Swyteck trying to save a man on death row. I was truly inspired by the story. The book was the first novel by an attorney named James Grippando. Fast forward 17 years later and Grippando has just written his 20th novel called "Blood Money." Where Jack Swyteck has just won the biggest murder trial in the country since OJ Simpson and has been dubbed "Juanie Cochran" by the media for representing a young woman accused of killing her daughter. I got an advanced copy and its FANTASTIC! Everyone pre-order yours today if you want to see what happens next. I DID NOT Participate in this book but it is truly a great read.

:floorlaugh: Yeah right. Sorry, but I am just not buying it! (The story or the book, that is!)

Not to mention the ones that were sealed -- I have always felt there were so doosies in those.

On other news/gossip/whatever - anyone heard about this?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jackie-k-cooper/blood-moeny-shows-a-ficti_b_2441664.html

On facebook it is being speculated that this is a funnel for blood money for Casey. (Obviously rumor and speaks to the fact that with this gang, many seem to have little trust.) So, what did JB want with this author in 2010?
http://rgazala.blogspot.com/2013/01/author-spotlight-james-grippando-returns.html

Thoughts anyone? Oh, and don't read the bio's on the author or if you do, don't pay attention the the name of his daughter that is creepy at best, in my humble opinion only.

I have not read this book and I will never read this book. However, based on what I have read in these two articles, it is completely --- < self-modslip>.

He didn't even know who Jose Baez was when his agent approached him (:floorlaugh:) and he is qualified to write a story that picks up after the trial?? Yes, I get it. It's not even fact based, but really??

I will say this. We do have to be really careful with books loosely written about this case. About Casey. About Caylee. Anything dealing with this case period. People can use a pseudo name. I actually believe this is exactly what Casey will do. She will not use her real name. Cindy may do this also.

I feel we already know everything we need to know. If a book grabs your interest about this case and you've never heard of the person or they are not directly linked to this case... simply take a day to yourself, go to Barnes and Nobles, read the book (take notes for us), put the book back on the shelf, and leave. No $$$$ spent.

:floorlaugh: Yeah right. Sorry, but I am just not buying it! (The story or the book, that is!)

This author made a grave mistake even mentioning the fact that he spoke with Jose and Jose made a grave mistake in promoting it. No one will buy it now. Had the author simply said the case caught his fancy and he wanted to follow up with a fairy tale, he might have been successful based on his reputation. His reputation is now void, IMO.

.

This part of the synopsis of the book made me laugh...

Once Sydney has been found not guilty of the death of her two-year-old daughter Emily, Jack thinks Sydney is out of his life for good. It is goodbye and good riddance. However more events occur and bind them together once again.

You know dang well that this is something Jose shared with this author and he used as inspiration for this book. So, I wonder what events have occured that have binded them together? I mean, he isn't even her lawyer anymore? Could it be something about all those days she spent at his office while she was out on bond? Casey is holding something over Jose's head! Mark my words!

RBBM ...

sorry... wwwwwhaaatt? Caylee's murder was an INCONVENIENCE??? Did I read that wrong or am I just really really so that po'd that everything is heightening my emotion?

'true story' about reading the book in law school - my aunt fanny.

Now, does everyone see why I have no problem with Ashton's book? With a movie based on Ashton's book? With any chance Burdick will ever come out with a book? It's to counteract this kind of nonsense and sickness.

I may just have to be sick. honest to god.

FCA got away with murder. Whose fault is that is up for debate. She is in hiding and her parents no longer seek the limelight. They have not gotten a payday. They are all dependent on some benevolent dude who has given them jobs, hiding places and vacations.

To me, this speaks to all of their guilt. The rest of the story remains unwritten. (and poor Jose has been reduced to a bit player)

RIP baby Caylee.

I think he meant the juries NOT GUILTY verdict was an inconvenience much like the OJ verdict was. His agent approached him about this case. About talking with Jose. I am thinking that is what he meant. He, as a writer, may have been on another direction, but his agent called and wanted him to jump on this case. Backlash made it impossible for him to join forces, per se, with Jose and the murderess for a fact-based story. So, he decides to imbelish and completely overexagerrate what happened after the verdict. He's made a fool out of himself though. His agent should be fired.

BBM I think they got enough of a payday when they got $250,000 for photos of Caylee, $500,000 or $600,000 from Dr Phil for appearing in his show and who knows what else. Oh they got a payday alright but they just kept thinking that the paydays were gone keep coming and get bigger.

Think Tank - look at all this!!! You are a regular Sherlock Holmes...

Just look at how many "big" things that never came to fruition for Mr. Baez..

- No TV legal expert position (that went to Mark NeJame with CNN)
- No Big Publishing house book deal (Jeff Ashton signed with Harper, he ended up with a publishing boutique, Ben Bella)
- No high profile cases
- No big time talent agency
- No movie deal (that went to JA)
- No big pay day (that went to CA/GA)

Poor baby.... NOT!

No need to give me a "rebuff" - I know that - I still think Baez has his handout everytime he opens his mouths and probably did this time....:waitasec:

I apologize logicalgirl -- I intended no rebuff. Just thought I had made confusing statements in my previous post.

I agree that Baez has certainly benefited from his association with author James Grippando! Baez got a full length MSNBC "documentary" which is 100% supportive of Baez and his book, and that was, no doubt, as a result of his association with author James Grippando, who just happened to be on the same MSNBC network promoting his own book, which is a fiction book based loosely on Baez and FCA.

Since Grippando and Baez were not able to do their NON-fiction book on FCA case, they both benefited from Grippando's fiction book and being promoted by MSNBC. Baez got "something" out of this for sure!

In the notice that #CaseyAnthony received, the court threatened to suspend her driver's license and turn her over to a collections agency.

NOTE: She'd been paying no more than $30 per month, though there have been many months that she's skipped and not paid anything. In the last few months, they actually assessed her a non-payment fee of $5-$10 per month
