Tongo says Dewani still owes him R1500 (trip to Somerset West), plus the R4000 (for the murder) Tongo says he wrote it off as a loss.

that's a fair bit of $$ and I have a difficult time thinking that Tongo could absorb that kind of loss -- something else is going on and I wonder if it just wasn't plain old fear.....

It actually does make more sense that Dewani would have been carrying around the plastic bag if it really did have a thank you card and 1000 Rand in it. It always seemed strange that he was carrying around a plastic bag of money when he could just have carried it in his pocket or, I dunno, tucked it in his sleeve or something - it would have been easy to make it seem inconspicuous.

Also makes more sense as to why Tongo emerged with a grin carrying the plastic bag (unless my memory's deceiving me here) if he'd just been given an unexpected 1000 Rand gift. He didn't look like he'd just been shortchanged by 5000 Rand!

Thanks for the updates, by the way! I really don't know what to think about this - it does almost seem as if Tongo is deliberately sabotaging his evidence. Very weird.
