I listened to a short interview with Joseph Scott Morgan earlier this evening and he said that the autopsy will be important to determine if something was possibly put into Jimmy Gracey's drink, and also looking at his hands for any defensive wounds, any signs on his body of foul play, etc. And that the investigation will continue with analysis of the security video, interviewing people at the bar who may have interacted with him, etc. I tried to find the link again to post it here but can't find it now. Hopefully, tonight he and other experts will be giving more interviews and discussing the case and the various possibilities of cause and manner of Jimmy's death. It's too early simply to say that his death was an accident.

JMO since I can't find the link.
100% agree here. It’s sad that many are saying it’s bc he was inebriated and fell in the water.

People are saying it because unfortunately it is the most likely explanation.

When somebody goes missing after a night out and water is close by I’d say 80%+ of time it ends up that they ended up in the water - without any foul play committed

My thoughts are with his family & friends.

No they are not. People are just coming up with possibilities of what may have happened. The video leaving the bar at 3am and also other witnesses in the bar may shed light on just how inebriated he was.
Drink and walking near to water is not a good idea obviously.

It said that Criminal motive was ruled out but even under the influence you would not go into cold water on your own unless you were influenced by other people.

He was from Elmhurst, IL which meant like most Chicago area teenagers, he was used to the temperature of Lake Michigan at the Chicago beaches--for pretty much all of June the lakefront here is between 54-60 degrees F and water and beaches are full of people even then. As someone stated several pages back, the water there was about 57 degrees F that night.

But that is not the point. He was not testing water temperature

I think with guys it's usually that they are drunk and step off a path to pee without realizing how close to the water and danger they are.

It became such a serious problem with college students in La Crosse Wisconsin that in the 2000s that the community started a River Watch program where volunteers kept watch during the weekends to keep drunk young people from accidentally getting too close to the river and drowning.

Look at the type of "rocks" next to the rescue boat.

If he walked onto the rocks and ended up in the water, my guess would be that the rocks are slippery, and that there is a somewhat steep slope of the rocks under water. Once he was wet, and his clothes are heavy when wet, with slippery rocks, it might be hard to get out of the water. Panic, alcohol, and tiring from struggling could result in accidental drowning.

The rocks near his body are not rocks, but large cubes of concrete - smooth surface.

This is so sad. Sounds like a tragic accident. But a person they arrested randomly had his phone? I'm slightly confused.

I understand, and I didn't say he was. I was refuting that the statement the only reason he would be in such cold water was because he was forced. Accidental death could be him walking on the breakfront and falling in but it also could be him choosing to go in the water to splash around and slipped, etc.

Moo...it is not a path it is just a long pile of rocks. You have to be very sure footed even in the daylight to traverse a breakwater of that type. Not slippery usually, because they are above the water level. Easy to fall, don't know why you would do it a night.....moo

Heartbreaking. There are countless stories like this. Way too many college kids/young adults accidentally drowning after a night at the bar, Riley Strain and Sudiksha Konanki's cases weren't too long ago either. I wonder if he wanted to go for a night swim and left his phone on the beach. :( RIP Jimmy and so sad for his family.

One possibility is that he left Shoko and walked to Port Olimpic (also mentioned in some articles). He may have walked along the dock, past the boats, to the location where there are large concrete cube-rocks/blocks. If he slipped into the water at that location, it would be more difficult to get out of the water (smooth, wet, slippery rocks).

1. Shoko
2. Port Olimpic
3. Rescue boat
