Gates didn't have an attorney present during the plea, but the public defender representing him said Gates would be retaining a private attorney.

Hm.

now that IS really odd no??

I think Pomp is going to be the huge story for the next several days --!!

We all got Pomp late -- reporters were busy -- my sense is they have not yet had the time to go through it

IMO Pomp is the breathtaker -- the blockbuster - !!!

and the reporters will be much better at fleshing it out so we will get nuance IMO in the coming days

this is going to binge watching !!

Another thing I learned right from the beginning when FLynn broke was Mueller (after reading pomp) really does not need plea with too many others or offer immunity

kinda a done deal imo........................

I wonder if Gates is willing to talk. Why get rid of your former lawyer? Do we know who was his lawyer?

All I've seen is reference to "his attorneys" couldn't be reached for comment so I'm not sure of a name or firm. But it seems odd he was unprepared and they were there hours ahead of time. He knew he needed an attorney there, and I don't think an attorney would abandon a client at that particular moment. Weird.

Maybe his attorney dumped him.

Or, if his lawyer has a conflict like a Manafort connection is also under investigation for how he represented Gates or from the firm that is representing a bigger fish.... I don't know but it is odd that he knew he had to show up and didn't get representation before hand.

Anyone heard anything about Jarod ??

In all the criminal charges today in pomp there is much mention of talking with senior campaign people so that would Jarod would Eric be top senior campaign too?

Would Ivanka , according to the criminal release today be considered top campaign person too??

Or if someone would ( I checked out watching the campaign pretty early)

So, if we go back to the campaign -- who are the top 5 folks that would be called top campaign people?

What I am trying to learn is in the pomp indictment when they keep referring to him contacting top senior camp folks - who were they?

I think everyone may be shopping for new cell phones today.

I thought maybe, but at the last minute like that? Why would the attorney not at least hang on until after the plea, or even ask a colleague to fill in? Very unprofessional.

I have not had a chance to read the Papadop files. I believe there is context of emails and information that relates to others in the campaign. CNN is stating that some of the Papadop emails have gone back and forth to Manafort and Gates.

Breaking news on CNN --Tony Podesta has stepped down.

"Podesta’s decision to leave the firm came on the same day that former Donald Trump campaign aides Paul Manafort and Rick Gates were indicted on multiple charges, including money laundering, operating as federal agents of the Ukrainian government, failing to disclose overseas bank accounts and making false statements to federal authorities. Trump campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos pleaded guilty earlier this month for lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials, according to court records.

The investigation into Podesta and his firm grew out of investigators’ examination of Manafort’s finances. Manafort organized a PR campaign on behalf of a nonprofit called the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine. Podesta Group was one of several firms that were paid to do work on the PR campaign to promote Ukraine in the U.S." https://www.politico.com/story/2017...from-lobbying-giant-amid-mueller-probe-244314

I feel like this all should remind us of how the big money for campaigns and influence does not serve our democratic republic. I think we should be shopping for a new way of doing elections.

Totally agree. And, I would add that campaign funding should be fully funded. Enough already.

Was the Gates guy a big player?

Was the Gates guy a big player?

Gates continued to work with the Trump campaign after Manafort left. He was part of some of the transition and was a member of the inauguration committee. Big? Not so sure but big enough.

Made numerous false statements and omitted material facts.

Damn. Lying to the FBI.

I would imagine all those that are guilty of a crime would lie to the FBI. That's what criminals do.

RTBM: I have thought this for a long time. Campaign finance reform, election cycle time limits (6-8 months), and one debate.

The Pomp guy did not lie -- after he realized how much trouble he is in.

His criminal indictment that came out today tells a bunch of other people some of what Mueller knows .

There is nothing political about any of this !!

This stuff is penitary stuff
