Hi SImba !!!

Wow I did not think there would be so many crimes and charges-- I thought only one!!

Sounds kinda stupid -- but on another level it indicates how much criminal stuff they actually know about and to put crimes against the US is a serious crime

I would imagine all those that are guilty of a crime would lie to the FBI. That's what criminals do.

I don't expect foreign policy advisers to be nothing more than common criminals. I expect foreign policy advisers to tell the truth when questioned by the FBI.

Hi CARIIS! The house of cards is crazier than I ever imagined. Did you read <modsnip> Statement of Defense? It reads like it is just some crazy plot, but at the end, he <modsnip> SIGNED it and says it is all true!

Here is the headline to find the other piece for this post -- the link on top goes to an opioid story on the same page ??

After the Manafort Indictment, the Mueller Investigation Enters a New Phase

and then this one was also used for this post below

a new character in the drama of Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential election: George Papadopoulos

his interaction with Russian operators (that is the term for Russian spies -- that is word Malcoln Nance uses all the time)

Papadopoulos was one of the five people .......when he first announced his campaign’s foreign-policy team.

Papadopoulos’s engagements with Kremlin-connected operators were overseen and encouraged by at least three more senior, unnamed officials with the Trump campaign

Pomp plead guilty on (“10/5/17”)

What is startling about the plea is how open officials at the Trump campaign seem to have been about outreach to Russia

...language of the plea tends to paint Papadopoulos as a young man on the make

...the young Trump aide e-mails containing “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. (This is just about the same approach that was made to Donald Trump, Jr.

per the indictment

..Papadopoulos loops in his superiors—immediate ones, distant ones, and at one point even the candidate himself.

...Papadopoulos reports personally to Donald Trump

...Manafort’s indictment is a reflection of how corruption in one country rarely stays there

....guillotine that has always hung over this Presidency had started to descend

... idea was to insist that the Russia scandal emanates solely from an anti-Trump dossier,...In truth, investigative reports connecting senior Trump figures with Russian oligarchs, financially and politically, and the F.B.I.’s interest in those connections both predate the dossier.

...President keeps turning to Hillary Clinton as a foil, and to Barack Obama, is that he does not understand whom he is presently fighting with, or what he is fighting for.

...Mueller brought to this case a sterling reputation as a nonpartisan truth-teller, .... his appointment by the , was met with near-universal acclaim.

...On one side is Mueller, who has spent his working life serving the American government. On the other side is the one-time chairman of the President’s election campaign, who is now charged with conspiracy against the United States.

...The story is about patriotism.

... the news this morning seems to promise that 2016 is over and a new era, belatedly, has begun.

...Manafort became a top priority of the counterintelligence investigation opened by the Justice Department, and was reportedly placed under surveillance

...Manafort specialized in dressing up warlords and dictators

...ormer lobbying partner Roger Stone, Trump’s longtime political adviser, e-mailed friends, “Where is Paul Manafort?”

...Manafort had some Trump connections. He worked for Trump in the eighties, .... Trump hired his firm to lobby state officials in Florida to redirect air traffic away from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.

...Manafort owned a condo in Trump Tower.

Trump campaign guts GOP’s anti-Russia stance on Ukraine

By Josh Rogin July 18, 2016
The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won’t call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.

Throughout the campaign, Trump has been dismissive of calls for supporting the Ukraine government as it fights an ongoing Russian-led intervention. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade.

Still, Republican delegates at last week’s national security committee platform meeting in Cleveland were surprised when the Trump campaign orchestrated a set of events to make sure that the GOP would not pledge to give Ukraine the weapons it has been asking for from the United States.

There's a timeline of events that this investigation is going to tie into. IMO.

BBMS: this article from July 2016 surmises & outlines perhaps the concessions made that ran counter to the RNC platform.

I don't expect any criminal to confess when confronted by the FBI regardless of their occupation.

I haven't read Papadopoulos' Statement of Defense yet, but he's been cooperating with the FBI and that makes me wonder who ELSE is cooperating?

If he doesn't tell the truth, it's obstruction of justice.

Please use proper names instead of derogatory name changes.

Thanks.

I would imagine all those that are guilty of a crime would lie to the FBI. That's what criminals do.

It is conceivable that Papadopolous may not have been operating outside of the law when he made contact about a meeting. His actions became criminal when he lied to the FBI. Until the time that he lied to the FBI, he was not a criminal (convicted, anyway). I am sure he had legal representation and knew when he was first interviewed that lying to the FBI is a felony.

I think it is important to recognize he took a plea deal, which means he was probably going to be charged with more crimes until he agreed to give them information and cooperate. Now, the question becomes what else do he know. He was arrested in late July, about the same time that the Manafort raid happened. Mueller seems to be a very methodical coordinator of this investigation. I believe more is to come.

Hmmm, let's see ... names of witnesses: Carter Page, Michael Flynn, Jeff Sessions, Steve Bannon, Reince Priebus, Jared Kushner, Devin Nunes, DJT Jr., Felix Slater, Roger Stone, Sergey Kislyak, Don McGahn

True, I expect them to stop talking until they go to court on advice from legal representative. But, when they realize they are in deep do-do I think the lower level fish would take a deal.

I didn't mean to be derogatory--just that his name was hard to pronounce.

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/346047-trump-lawyer-manafort-raid-was-gross-abuse

"Reports emerged Wednesday that the FBI raided Manafort's home in Alexandria, Va., late last month. Analysts said the move signals an aggressive new approach to the Russia probe*by special counsel Robert Mueller and his team of investigators.

In his email, Dowd said that among the documents obtained by FBI agents were "privileged and confidential materials prepared for Mr.*Manafort by his counsel to aid him in his cooperation with the Congressional committees," according to Fox News.
"These failures by Special Counsel to exhaust less intrusive methods is a fatal flaw in the warrant process and would call for a Motion to Suppress the fruits of the search," he wrote."
