When they did the canal search..somthings besides vehicles were pulled from the canal the first day or so, before they started to drain the canal.

The ISP said they would be looking at everything that was pulled out.

Then they drained the canal and stated nothing was found. I keep hoping that something small was found, that was the resaon for draining the canal . Also while ther was live coverage Drew had stated to reporters that he spent the day watching it with Brodsky..if he did do that then he must have been afraid they would find something..why else watch with your lawyer when we know Drew has had no interest in any of the other searches?

Stacy may have not been left at the canal, but Drew was more then likely there that night, and may have been afraid he left some sort of evidence behind other then a cell phone ping.

Please show me a link to where they "drained" the canal.

IMHO it would be literally IMPOSSIBLE to drain a canal as big as the Sanitary and Ship Canal. It extends 28 miles and takes the waste water away from Chicago. It is 25 feet deep and 60 feet wide all the way down the 28 mile stretch. http://www.lewisu.edu/imcanal/corridorintime/chapter6.htm

It would be a logistics nightmare to even attempt draining this canal. If they had drained it, it would have been HUGE news throughout Chicagoland. I haven't heard a thing about them draining it (or seen it drained) and I live a mile from the canal, if that.

Well, Dee...we weren't the ones who said it! The media did. By drain, I suppose they meant they held up the water in the locks to lower the water where they were searching. I do recall reading or hearing it more than one place tho. Here are a few mentions and there are others on that thread, too.

We discussed this in Cal-Sag Thread #2:

Fox News, "The Big Story," just reported they are draining this part of the canal? Any local news on this?

Okay, I rewound "The Big Story," and here is the gist of what they reported:

Mary Frances Briegel(sp) of WBBM radio says they reportedly began draining the canal last night and sources say they know exactly what they are looking for. According to her, local reporters are speculating that GJ testimony may have led to draining the canal for a specific item.

Lieberman (AMW guy) says that AMW has received quite a few tips regarding this particular canal. Also talked a bit about Steve Peterson being re-subpoenaed to the GJ, saying that seems significant to him.

I don't know, to drain a huge canal, the water has to go somewhere. Unless they were able to close off a section within the locks??

On Nancy Grace right now they are showing pictures from earlier today and saying that they are draining the canal. I just switched to it so I didn't catch the whole thing.

I recall watching a clip on the news a while back, showing it was lowered.
However I can't find anything on the net for a link.....

I think it was strange that DP showed that kind of interest in the canal search when he apparently showed no interest in any of the ground searches. Perhaps he threw something else into that canal - like a piece of jewelry Stacy had on, or a cell phone, or something along those lines.....something of Stacy's that would connect him to being there.

Kind of like Scott Peterson. He went to the Bay to watch the searches LE were doing for Laci and Connor and we all know how that turned out.

Hmmm... Nervous, Drew?

If you have been keeping up at www.FindStacyPeterson.com, it appears that the family has distanced themselves from the site according to Pam Bosco. While they are certainly playing this down on the site, they do admit Cassandra and others from the family aren't posting publically anymore citing they are to be witnesses, etc.

I had asked on the 29th where the funds were going from the fundraisers and other things being done, but I didn't get much of an answer. I was just mildly curious is all. Legal fees were mentioned and I thought that was odd since the family should not have to pay for such (Unlike DP).

I hope they get the issue straightened out and the site continues for Stacy's sake.

I remember seeing pictures of the canal after they said it had been drained, and the water line was lower than it had been. You could see a water mark showing that the water had been higher at one time. When they said "drain", I don't think they meant draining it completely like emptying a sink - just lowering the water level to a point where it was easier for the divers.

The best thing the Amazing Kreskin could do is conjure himself into a beautiful seventeen year old rich girl and slip DrewP a rufie. A DrewP-rufie. I don't know how to spell "rufie" but you get the idea. Tell DrewP how smart he is to fool even the feds and hang on his every word, get it on audio and video with a few notaries standing by so the legalistas won't get their boxers in a,...I mean um, just for good measure. That's what I meant to say. What do yall think?Susan

Yes, I think what they meant was that they closed an upper lock to let the water drain away and lower the level.

Seriously, it doesn't matter if they drained the canal or not! They didn't find her. What matters is they pulled out all the stops to search there and feel certain they did it to the best of their ability. I applaud them for their efforts in the freezing cold, snow, and ice.

Now, can we move on and leave the canal alone? They need to move the search up to Dresden...to satisfy my curiosity if for no other reason. LOL

  • #351
Maybe they are at Dresdan and we are not aware of it. It has been awfully quiet lately.

  • #352
Yes, it is too quiet! I don't like that the headlines are starting to taper off about Stacy or even DP. Maybe he will pull some boneheaded stunt to bring the case back up to "story of the year" status again. We can only hope!

I kind of think they may be doing a lot of background research right now, and also verifying a few things......you think??

  • #354
I hope that part is ongoing and has been from day one of the investigation. I want to see boots on the ground and divers in the water so we know there is actually something going on. I realize they geared down during the Holidays, but now they should ramp it up again and trudge on full steam ahead.

  • #355
I think they have probably eased off and are waiting on the GJ now. Didn't this case go before the GJ about 2 months ago? Seems like if they are going to do anything it should be soon. How long does the same jurors sit for the GJ? Do they have to make a decision on this case before the end their service?

Search wise with the cold and the snow, searches would be getting too dangerous. But they are probably following up on and verifying any new info that came out during witness testimony to the GJ.

  • #356
I would like answers on the GJ questions, too. Meeting once a week doesn't seem like a great way to speed things along, does it?! It is rather like watching ice melt.

Should at a minimum meet twice a week, best would be Mon-Wed-Fri

Right now, in the absence of any "new" news on the case, the media focus is on the elections - the Iowa Caucus today and the New Hampshire Primary next Tuesday.

I hope that LE has a lot of evidence and it's down to getting all their ducks in a row. I think Tom Morphey is going to play a big role in any future trial, and LE is keeping him under wraps. I remember that DP suddenly lost his sense of humor when the media released the information about Tom meeting with DP and helping him move the blue container the night of October 28th.

  • #359
I think that LE has more info then the public is aware of, they almost always do, and that the GJ is really going at it's own pace to give LE the time it needs to find certain evidence and put their ducks in a row.

I think that the searches have been ongoing and very hush/ hush. I think they have paticular places and objects they are looking for.My hope is this all comes together soon before the canals and lakes can freeze over completely.

The weather here in Illinois is supposed to warm up considerably this weekend. The forecast says in the 40's and rain but that will melt the ice and snow. Hopefully more searches are planned!
