So what is your opinion on the prosecution's failure to nail down a tiimeline that the camera went black? To me that is a pretty big detail since they managed to get so many snippets of Jason Young himself on camera.

Surely they could have nailed that timeline of the unplugged camera within minutes of the occurrence. Yet all of the hotel employee's were completely oblivious as to a timeframe on this incidence. But they reported it to Local LE, would the Hotel not be required to keep incidence reports?

Love to hear your thoughts on this.
:)

Not addressed to me ... but I watched the night audit clerk's first testimony and he stated that the camera feed was in the back office, in the very same room where he was doing the paperwork for the bills (the ones that he had to process and print before sliding under the room doors). He was in the office from before midnight, yet he did not notice that the camera was unplugged until he physcially saw that it was unplugged at about 4:30 in the morning (testified to when he noticed it was unplugged today). We also heard today that the camera times were often messed up. I don't know how anyone can draw conclusions about the camera times with that information.

Otto,

I agree. But Jason Youngs check in time and the camera time is withinin 3 minutes of each other.

Yet Keith Hicks testified today that the cameras could sometimes be off by about an hour! :waitasec:

Well okay then. Who or what do you believe? I still need someone to put Jason Young back in Raleigh!

The wide net that has been cast in regards to the TOD needed to be narrowed more for the prosecution than the defense, IMO.

I think that is why all the discombobulated time lines exist.

IDK, I just feel a very large piece of the puzzle is missing.

After very many hours of reviewing the first trial testimony, well need I say more?

Here I sit :fence:. Wondering what could possibly be presented this time that was not presented in the 'abbreviated' trial? Still wondering why the state would take short cuts? It only took like forever for them to arrest their man, after-all.

Could it be that we have our answers soon?

Part of the reason the first trial moved so quickly was because it came on the heels of another high-profile trial that went on much too long. It was a similar case, husband accused of murdering his wife, and the judge in the JLY case started off the trial by telling the attorneys he would not allow this case to turn into a repeat of the last one.

I'm not sure if Jason did it or not but I thought the prosecution had a really weak case for the first trial. If Jason didn't do this, I think it is most likely that someone who at least knew them(friend/acquaintance/whatever) is probably the killer. Mostly because it was testified that Michelle's friend felt creeped out, like someone was watching them when she left.

So maybe it was a friend or acquaintance turned stalker. I don't think it was random simply because the person clearly targeted Michelle and didn't take much. Maybe it was a person with a grudge against Jason and wanted to frame him for it.

I don't think it was a burglary because the burglar could have taken tons of stuff from downstairs without harming anyone. Or even if the burglar killed Michelle, seems like they would have taken more if that were the purpose.

I don't know...it's totally bizarre imo. What upsets me is that it doesn't seem like a very thorough investigation was done into Michelle's death. There are so many unanswered questions and missing information. DNA evidence, two sets of foot prints near the body, etc. We don't have the whole story - not by a long shot.

Thanks for your response.

The lack of DNA confuses me, too.

Jason could have worn gloves, obviously....and the unknown fingerprint could have been from the grocery store or pharmacy???

I missed the footprint information. Has that come out already in this new trial?

Were the 2 different footprints different sizes? I know if it was Jason he could have worn both to throw people off.

Why would he wear two different pairs of shoes to throw police off and then try to pay for gas with a credit card between committing murder and returning to the hotel?

someone mentioned the purple liquid in the dropper

the liquid was red - the top/squeezable part of the dropper was purple

JTF, why aren't we privvy to that information in N.C.? I remember we knew the sex, ages, professions of the Laci Peterson jury. Most of the trials I used to watch on the old Court TV, the vital statistics about the jury was made public. Remember 'strawberry shortcake' from the Laci trial?

How could we forget old Strawberry Shortcake? I was sure she was going to hang the jury! They talked about how she always seemed so into what Geragos was saying. I thought she was a softie for Scottie but she turned out to be so vociferous against him! Goes to show you can't judge a book by it's cover!!

Regarding the gas attendant ... is it her testimony that the 5 AM customer tried to use a credit card and only when he failed, did he come in to use cash? If so, that seems to be the best argument that it was not Jason. There is no way that Jason would use a credit card to buy gas along the route after murdering his wife.

Jason was "supposedly" Gracie's 5:27 am customer, and she said he was flipping the machine handles trying to get gas .

But, here is the deal.......either way he was going to have to come inside, there is no way he was going to use his credit card.

Jason also had no idea the video cameras at this station were not working though.
An angry cursing Jason on tape at 5:27 am, in a place where he should not be, in a direction he should not have been traveling in, would have meant INSTANT arrest.

This is a man who supposedly was playing rim shots with a camera and a rock, but walked into a gas station and made a spectacle of himself.

But, wait for it. It gets better.
Not only did he do this in front of Gracie, according to her there was a regular customer who was there to see it all go down.

Only problem is they looked for this guy, they set up surveillance tapes to find him, put out flyers , and nothing.

And, to make it worse, sometime later Gracie thinks a newspaper carrier may have been there as well, but he has since died...:(

does someone have a link to the 911 call that is not WRAL?

their audio clips don't work for me ...

I completely agree with every single thing you said.

The biggest stand-out for me is when I learned that he refused to talk to LE even ONCE.

The second biggest is the purse gift. He (imo from what I've seen/read) never made any attempt to give a nice surprise like that. I think he did it to make sure someone-the sister (damn him for making her witness to the horror imo) found Michelle.

Sheesh, I guess I am not keeping a very open mind. :blushing:

You will also find out later that the weekend of his actual anniversary in October, he was spending it, having an affair, with one of her sorority sisters, and yet later he was SO concerned to give her a gift???

I am jumping in before reading all of the pages to clarify a few things.

1) The pros' HC is playing a "schtick" for lack of a better word. You aren't the number two attorney in a county setting as large as Wake (Raleigh,Cary, et al) without being a relatively brilliant mind. The Barney thing he plays up is so that jurors have someone to sync up with. A lot of his "shock and ya'll" comes out in moments like the aforementioned Ducks incident as genuine to the jury and believe it or not, it wins him votes. (Literally, he becomes the friendly neighbor or the older relative you trust)

Interesting observation. While I was listening today, I heard some weird grammar and was quite surprised that someone with his training spoke slang ... or rather, appeared to not know the correct tenses for words.

Boy, do I remember her..........she really worried me.

Between her and Justin the booted Juror who said he would hang the Jury, I was so scared SP would walk.

The only walking he is doing these days will be from Death Row to the gas chamber.

Very familiar with the Cooper Case.

Not real certain what that case has to do with the prosecution of Jason Young? Cooper had a completely different prosecution team.

I really became interested in this case cause of the cost that North Carolinian's are paying in the form of taxpayer $$$.

I believe many people who otherwise were uninformed citizens learned very much from the Cooper Case.

Like John Fear said upthread Jason Young's silence can not used against him as we all have that right under the Constitution.

No, I don't, sorry.
I am trying to think where else it may be.
I hope someone can find a link for you.

That was from the first trial - hasn't come up yet in this one.

I believe it was size 10 and 12(mens) footprints. I think the two sets of prints are a big reason why the jury hung.

3) If you listen to the 911 call and hear "Daddy did it" expecting to hear "Daddy did it" you are a step ahead of me (maybe anticipating it changes things?). I don't hear it the same way.

I have never heard it ... not when I was convinced he was guilty and not now when I'm skeptical of the evidence.

I can actually tolerate HC more than BH though, but, I will say one thing, all this whispering they are doing at the table is not very professional.

They should know this case inside and out, have their all questions lined up, fire them away, and not be sitting there saying, "ask him this", or "ask her that", like they are just now thinking of it..

Does not look good.

OK, we've had lots of people join this thread recently who didn't see the first trial and are not local, so I wasn't sure if you were familiar with the Cooper trial from last year. Yes, Cooper had a different prosecution team, but the trial dragged on forever and this judge specifically said he wouldn't allow the JLY trial to be a repeat of that. That was the point I was making in why the prosecution seemed to be rushed last time around.
