Thanks for the link ,Dingo. Had to laugh at the how to speak with an aussie accent link. Meryl Sreep did the worst Aussie accent I have ever heard in the Chamberlain movie. I grew up in the Outback ofSouth australia and we have strong accents.

Hi Kazz..youre right...as much as I enjoy Meryls movies,I did find her annoying trying to do the accent......they should have just picked an Aussie actress to do the part.

Hi Sunday:D True Blue means to be real..staunch...and to stand up for what you believe in...our flag is also blue...so that comes into it as well.
This link explains alot of our Aussie lingo and our different meanings to some words...........
http://www.aussieslang.com/default.asp
Sunday the two words I used being dinki di and fair dinkum mean the same thing Dinki Di is a abbreviation type thing from fair dinkum.

If someone is fair dinkum, they are the real deal, they are true.
When I say fair dinkum it means the same thing but I put it like a question....which is what we Aussies do, we go up at the end of our sentences and make everything sound like a question LOL
When I say fair dinkum?, it kinda means the same thing as asking 'really?'
I'd try and put in a sentence for ya but I'm struggling to explain it as it is lol

I know what youre trying to say Narla:) our language is a bit complex.....its hard to explain, words can have different meanings depending on the tone of voice used...I dont know why Im telling you this:) .If us Aussies wernt such busy people we could proberly learn to form a full sentence:p ,Our language is proberly the only one were you call your best friends horrible names just to prove you like them....I think it would be easier to learn Latin.

Hello Dingo,
I cannot believe you said this...
This is the same thing we did in Jersey where I am from.We also flipped "the bird" to each other if we drove past each other on the road.(it was a hello sign to a friend)
Cannot do that here in Vt.
I miss Jersey.

Im pleased you understand DS......our mannerisms are common throughout all Australia..state to state.
Ive heard of Flip the bird, but Im not quite sure which fingers are involved to make the guesture........we have give the finger....but that symbol is far from a greeting....it has the opposite meaning:D .

Dingo,
Thank-you.The finger involved is the third finger alone and straight up.To give it to a friend you have a smile on your face.To give it the the way you know it (opposite meaning),you show your teeth along with the finger..:D

Lol DS..just a little friendly advice.....if you ever make it to our shores..dont greet the locals by flipping the bird.......we use the same finger and no matter what look you have on your face that symbol only means one thing:) :) .........well two things actually..but neither are good.
Youve got me laughing DS....I have a picture in my head.....American tourists wandering around our tourists spots..giving locals the bird and wondering why the Aussies seem so unfriendly:p

Flipping the bird as you call it is something I do when someone gets my rag up on the road when i'm driveing. It is pretty rude here but there is a worse insult that involves bending your elbow up and out. This is even worse and basically means **** Off. I try to be a good driver and not do either but just occasionally I do'flip the birdie':p ;)

Driving brings out the worst in me too......words come out of me that would make a bullocky blush...........then I feel so bad afterwards..not:p

Melb traffic is hideous and some of our citizens are shizen drivers so patience is a virtue. Sometimes i have been known to go off and give an earful too.Makes my kids laugh as I have a way with words or as my hubby says'you could peel the skin off a man with one good lash of you tongue".it is pretty hard to drive anywhere in this place without some kind of words.LOL:laugh:

Yes Ms Narla.........I was just hysterical actually.......because.......
You gave me two more words I didn't know in the explaination. LOL.......I figured as long as Dingo was on here I'd ask her to tell me.
Dinki Di and Fair Dinkum........got me more confused then the word Blue.......
I am going to have to add a page to my dictionary, and copy these words ,and paste it to the back cover.....I'll write.........Aussie Dictionary. :)
I thought that was the cutest thing.......so unique......
Dinki Di and Fair Dinkum.......I might start using those words around here see where it gets me.:)

People will probably just look at you strange Sunday lol

We use alot of American lingo too you know, we get it from watching too many American tv shows..

Apparently the English are starting to catch our going up at the end of our sentences, from watching Neighbours, Oz's longest running soap, they are crazy about anything Neighbours over there and dropping our g's at the end of sentences, like instead of saying 'something' we say somethin'..

Oh my I don't know how we got from what "blue" is, to what "bird" is........
But, I grew up in New Jersey.......so ya mean everyone was just saying "Hello" to me all those years that I cut them off in my car. So......hummm......the arm went out the window to say "Hi, Hello, how are Ya"......:)......
Naaaaaaaaaa.. I don't think so...... I watched the driver of the car I was in just last week in NJ.....put her arm out the window.......the same time as the guy in the vet was sporting by, in his convertiable,at high speed trying to cut her off ........I guess since it was in NJ they were saying "hello"................oh........LOL........I am bent over with hysterics right now........tooo funny to think about..... Guess I got a lot of HELLOS....emhum
