SUSPECT IN CUSTODY MN - 2 Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses were shot by someone impersonating a police officer, JUNE 13,2025

Interesting insights in this article, answers some of my questions. Equally interesting is a breakdown of the roommates interview by Scott Rouse - another poster clued me in. Look him up if interested.

I’m a little confused on whether Boelter is going to be prosecuted only in Federal Court and why. Can someone explain how this is going to move forward please?
VB is facing both federal and state charges. He appeared in federal court on Monday, June 16 and also his first state court hearing was on Monday but VB wasn't there because he was at his first court hearing in federal court. He's in federal custody right now, but the state has charged him with second degree murder for the the state Representive he killed and her spouse, and with attempted second-degree murder for the shooting of the Senator and his wife. The state prosecutor said that they will likely upgrade the charges to murder, but I think this has to go a grand jury first in order to charge him with first degree murder in Minnesota.

This article goes over the information.

Thankfully the police reacted with such a quick response. Did anyone else notice how bad that mask looked? It wasn't very convincing but given all of the time and effort put into his "disguise" I would think it wouldn't be hard to follow the money trail to find out if he was acting alone or with others or would it be?

That was my initial reaction as well, but thinking about it, if you die at home with no suspicious circumstances, then your body won't go anywhere near a hospital. It'll just be transported straight from where you died to the funeral home. Now, your organs will no longer be viable for donation after death in those circumstances, but your corneas (the bit of the eye that they're interested in) can be recovered up to 24 hours after death. From the link below -

"Donation does not need to take place immediately
You can donate your corneas up to 24 hours after you die and donation can take place after death in hospital, in hospices, or in funeral homes."

My friend's ex-husband died last year, and he was a donor for eyes, skin, and interestingly bone marrow. His other organs were not suitable. The last one is not being used for donation, as of now, but it is being used in research. These may also be used for the same thing.

This is a man who pumped over half a dozen bullets into innocent men and women, along with murdering their pets.
RSBM for focus

Not to argue or nitpick, but just to point out that he shot 8 bullets and 9 bullets respectively into the surviving wife and husband, and I don't know how many into each of his victims who died, as well as one or more into the dog in one of the homes.

And on that point, I am astounded that those 2 had any chance whatsoever of surviving, having been shot THAT many times each!! I admit I thought if you were ever shot 8 times, you died. But both of them are expected to live, I believe. Is that unusual?? Is it a record??? Seems like that would be rare to happen. Maybe medicine has just gotten better at saving GSW victims.

My best guess is its some paranoid nut-job looking for "evidence" for some bizarre conspiracy theories. Likely hoping to blame the victims , not the evil killer. JMO These freaks are so predictable, evil and stupid.

I think they were incredibly lucky they survived, I read that the gunshots narrowly missed the Senator's heart.

ETA - and I remember reading that the Senator was going to need to have several more surgeries, according to his wife.

I think it was in the EMS 911 call they stated he had received 2 shots in the chest and one in the abdomen. His wife's GS wounds were all in the abdomen. Just by random chance, perhaps, that he received the more serious wounds. It's great that they're both improving.

Emergency care for GS wounds has probably improved greatly during the last decade or so.

I am surprised anyone could break in. The Hortman house is a still-fresh crime scene, so I would have expected it to be under 24/7 police guard, especially given the national focus on these horrifying murders and attempted murders.

Does anyone else find the texts to the friend sort of odd? VB says two times something to the effect of ‘you wouldn’t know because you were not involved’. It’s almost like he is hinting to the friend that he won’t be ratting him out to the authorities but doesn’t want to just come out and say that. IMO

Others are pointing out this very thing, among them are a few linguistic experts & profilers. So you're not alone.

What the heck? Are there any other cases to reference where a crime scene has been broken into like that after the fact? Why would someone do that? Are they sure it wasn't some kind of miscommunication with a LE agency, seeing as there are multiple agencies likely working round the clock on this? Is someone (not LE obviously) looking to plant or destroy evidence?

I immediately thought of Jayme Closs, some random weirdo broke into the vacant house while she was still missing, and stole some of Jayme's clothes. He was caught and found to be unrelated to the murder of Jayme's parents and Jayme's abduction.

I think that VB just wanted to make it clear that his house mates weren't involved and knew nothing of what he had been planning and carried out. I don't find it odd. I did listen to some expert's opinion on the communication, his analysis, but don't agree with it, I think they're making too much of it.

My daughter just completed her senior shadow project at a local funeral home. She said it was routine to find a bag of organs inside a body (if an autopsy was done). So perhaps this guy was dealing with these organs.

oh ok ... strange!

Police had placed a camera in the front of the home before the break-in, but they've now added a camera in the back. Hopefully, there will be no further break-ins.

"I'm like, 'Hey, how did we get here?' And he's like, 'I got to be honest... I heard [Sen. John and Yvette] Hoffman had been shot up in Champlin and I started thinking myself... Melissa. Whenever something happens, she'll usually ask us to drive by her house, you know?' And she's had some idle threats over the years by constituents. And so he's like, 'I just thought to myself... we should just drive by her house,'" Chief Bruley recalled.

Sgt. Nordan sent two officers to drive by the Hortmans' home. When they arrived, they witnessed Boelter at the door. Then came the gunfire and a 43-hour manhunt.

Suspect went to other lawmakers' homes, FBI says

Federal investigators allege Boelter stalked his targets and planned his attacks carefully, researching the victims and their families as well as conducting surveillance on them "for an extensive period of time."

"This was a political assassination," Thompson said Monday.

At his hearing Monday afternoon, Boelter said could not afford an attorney, adding he had about $20,000 to $30,000 in savings, though he also said he owned his home and had seven cars to his name. The judge said, for now, Boelter would be appointed a federal defender.
