There seems to be a problem between the federal and state prosecutors. The feds are demanding to try their federal charges before the state is allowed to pursue murder charges.
I hope the state ignores the DOJ head and proceeds with their own murder cases, as they're much more likely to result in the killer actually staying in prison and not being pardoned. Blathering around in the news media about the death penalty doesn't mean anything if the POTUS ends up pardoning him.

JMO, its possible Boetler was inspired by POTUS, so not appropriate for them to take the lead on this case.
Trump has expressed support for some of the extreme, violent evangelical Christians who Boetler was affiliated with. It's a conflict of interest.
