Sweden - Five people shot at school, Örebro, 4th Feb 2025

My paraphrasing and JMO: he had lost his financial support because he was not applying for jobs as required and he had argued with social workers.

He was at the point of having no income at all.
However they don't think he filed a formal appeal of the decision to end his benefits.

No evidence of an ideological motive at this time.

IMO it sounds like reports that some social workers are missing is under investigation. They did not want to comment on that nor speculate about motive.

Väldigt konstigt, dock. It’s a pretty strange statement. I don’t think they would make that statement unless there’s a reason.

Can you translate it? What do they mean in your opinion? (I was using Google translate to try to understand the article.)

Footage of the school shooting in Sweden has reportedly revealed someone screaming 'Get out of Europe' before the gunman opened fire, killing ten people.

The video was taken by student Hashem Shams hiding in a toilet during gunman Rickard Andersson's deadly rampage at Orebro's Risbergska adult education centre, which offers Swedish language courses for migrants.

I think you presented it accurately. I’m just baffled by the fact that they are saying a few social workers may be are missing. It’s been days….they should know who the victims are by now.

This article says, "As of Wednesday morning, not all victims had been identified.

Police said they were using fingerprints, dental records and DNA to identify them - alongside interviews with family members."

Agree they probably know all of the names by today (Thursday), though.

Good thorough article as more and more unfolds.

I like it when relatives are open to discussion...even if it is such difficult information aobut their relative.

He did well in school',
one relative said.

This seems at odds to what is being reported. Maybe the relative isn't speaking of grades though. Maybe school is a place he liked to be and did well there, comparatively.

The murder suspect had Asperger's and high-functioning autism, and had major problems at school, according to Sweden’s TV4.

From the spring semester of grade eight and throughout grade nine, he failed all subjects. He was therefore not eligible for upper secondary school and had to follow an individual program,” the channel reported.

“Rickard Andersson studied at Wadköping Education Center in Örebro. There he attended a special class for people with Asperger's and high-functioning autism, and he received mixed grades.

“He passed in aesthetic activities and history, but failed in all other subjects.
“Rickard Andersson also did not do military service, as his lack of high school grades meant that he was never called up for military service.”

"Swedish police found
three rifles near the body of the gunman
amid a chaotic scene
they described as an 'inferno'.

Police believe the suspected killer may have had links to the school.

Law enforcement officials told a press conference
the suspected attacker had a firearms licence for four weapons,
three of which were found next to him
when police located his dead body.

Police said the smoke was not caused by fire
but by 'some sort of pyrotechnics'.
Several police had to seek medical attention for inhaling smoke.

'What we can say is that there is information indicating
that he in some way had a link with the school.

That is something we will have to look closer at',
Bergqvist told the news conference.

Sweden has a high level of gun ownership by European standards,
mainly linked to hunting,
though it is much lower than in the United States.

A wave of gang crime in recent years
has also highlighted the high incidence of illegal weapons."

They’re saying the same still - and here in Sweden Thursday is well under way. I find this slow identification unexpected. Maybe I am overestimating my homeland.

I think they are excessively careful with details due to the extreme increase in criminal activity (mostly explosions) the past month.

Well,
the perp was obviously not right in the head IMO.

Living alone,
suffering from acute social anxiety,
not able to lead normal satisfactory life,
probably hoarding injustices and grievances against others -
he was slowly falling into madness.
With tragic result.

And these weapons he had permission to obtain,
didn't help either.

:(

He might have needed one gun to get some food, though. That’s what his economy was like.

But yeah, high functioning autism - not so sure about the high functioning part. Chances are someone thought high IQ makes him high functioning. IDK.

Perhaps the difficulty of identification is the victims is, in part, finding next of kin to let them know. Or perhaps, in part, it may be hard to identify international records of identity.

“I think of my students,” Pegado told Reuters. “Many of them have fled from countries where things like this happen, and now they experience it here. It is horrible,” she said.

Even though they are saying "may have once been" for now, my guess is that this will be affirmed.

Authorities believe the suspect was a lone actor, and he may have once been a student at the school he targeted, investigators Bergqvist and Kristoffer Zickbauer told Thursday’s news conference.

Such a familiar picture...
hoarding weaponry along with his injustices and grievances.

If it is social workers that remain unidentified, I find that strange since they would be well documented. The students might be harder to confidently identify.

There’s a reason for it, I’m sure. I’m glad the focus is on getting things right.

This is an article that describes the dread some coworkers feel.

It’s also clear, from the article, that two victims are Bosnian. One of them among the missing.

Leave it to the DM to highlight this particular potential ideological motive...

I was beginning to wonder if there was specific group he'd attacked. The campus also had classes and courses aimed at those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and we've seen targeted attacks on disabled children and adults before. The attack in Japan in 2016 immediately comes to mind.
