Owners of Swiss disaster bar were booed upon arriving at the public prosecutor's office this morning.

Jacques and Jessica Moretti were called monsters and murderers. ‘You killed my son. You killed my brother. Where is my son?’ they shouted. ‘How can you eat and sleep?’

The two were visibly shaken by the confrontation. ‘We are just working people,’ the man tried to defend himself. ‘If we have to pay, we will pay.’

This morning was the fourth time that the two reported to the prosecutors in Sion to make a statement about the fire. Yesterday and today, lawyers representing the victims were also allowed to ask questions. There are more than fifty of them, representing over 130 parties.

Yesterday, there was an ‘emotional conversation’ between the Moretti couple and the mother of two of the injured. The meeting with Leila Micheloud was arranged ad hoc on the sidelines of the interrogations. ‘It was important for these people to be able to see each other, talk and exchange thoughts about what happened,’ said her solicitor, who did not elaborate on the content.

The Morettis' solicitor hoped that the conversation would contribute to the healing process. ‘It was important for both parties to be able to distance themselves from the resentment for a moment.’

The couple's interrogation is currently ongoing, with previous sessions lasting more than 10 hours.

Twenty-five burn victims are being treated in Swiss hospitals. Nine are in a rehabilitation clinic.

Thirty-nine victims are still being treated abroad, including 18 Swiss nationals.

The victims of the New Year's Eve fire in Crans-Montana, who were admitted to Milan's Niguarda Hospital are all out of danger. Those who were in intensive care have been transferred to the burns unit. In addition, a 55-year-old woman with dual Swiss and Italian citizenship was discharged from hospital on Monday.

another incident yesterday in the same region - 2026 is a tough year so far in Valais :(

Explosion at carnival parade in Switzerland: eleven injured

Le Châble is located in the canton of Valais, the same canton where the tragedy in Crans-Montana took place a month and a half ago.

Eleven people were injured on Saturday by an explosion on a float during the traditional carnival parade in Le Châble in southwestern Switzerland. One person was seriously injured. The incident occurred around 3 p.m.

The injured were treated at the scene and then taken to various hospitals in the region. Emergency services responded en masse. Three helicopters, four ambulances, and an emergency doctor arrived at the scene.

Broadcaster RTS reports that municipalities in the region had tightened regulations on fire safety standards in public buildings. According to the broadcaster, safety inspections will now almost certainly be extended to carnival floats.

some good news!

Today, two victims were transferred to Swiss rehabilitation clinics after receiving treatment in foreign burn centers because their condition has improved.

According to a Swiss health authority, more patients will return to Switzerland for rehabilitation in the coming days. It is also expected that some of the injured will soon be discharged from the hospital or rehabilitation center and able to return home.

"Fire chief is shaken

after 12-hour interrogation.

After almost twelve hours of questioning,
the fire chief of Crans-Montana is deeply shaken.

The focus is on an inspection from 2018 -
and the question of why flammable material in a bar was not objected to.

He denies all blame.

He was questioned as a respondent,
but could be charged if breaches of duty are found."

"Swiss government

proposes financial support

for victims of Crans-Montana disaster.

Switzerland’s Federal Council
has pledged swift support for the victims of the tragedy in Crans-Montana and their families,
announcing plans for a federal solidarity payment
and the creation of a government-led round table.

The cabinet has instructed the Federal Department of Justice and Police
to draft the necessary legislation by the end of the month.

The proposed federal contribution
—whose amount has yet to be specified—
would supplement cantonal assistance and insurance payouts."

IMO, it is highly unlikely that there is a regulation, that bars cannot use flammable materials. Nor would that be reasonable.

These regulations, AFAIK, are more about
1) what materials can be used what distance from a fire hazard - such as a fireplace, but no-one is designing buildings around "where one might light a candle" so to say;
2) what methods have to be taken to minimize the risk of fire spreading - this is, where there might be a case that this incident falls under, but also might not, these are usually about "fire blocks" in the facade and fire doors etc;
3) regulations for emergency excits - this is the part where I see that we might have mistakes, both by the managers (if doors were locked/blocked) and maybe by approving the remodel (if the narrowing of the stairway would somehow fall under that).

Looking forward to hear more details about the Swiss system.

Is this a picture of the tent that caught fire from the candles recently (in other words, a pic of that tent before it caught fire)?

I hope this isn't a second tent set up after that first tent burned, still allowing candles to be lit inside. Surely they would have learned that's a bad idea.

"Prosecutors investigating the disaster also revealed survivors had provided testimony appearing to confirm
the venue's emergency exits had been locked.

They added
that no one inside Constellation bar seemed to know what to do at the outbreak of the fire,
extinguishers were not used
and that the blaze took grip within a matter of mere minutes."
