The Queen doesn't make decisions about what her children and grandchildren wear while on official duty. She is the Queen of Britain and it's commonwealth, she has more important things to do. She doesn't micromanage, there are staff that takes care of multiple things.
They have a dress code, similar to the rest of us having a dress code for work.
You don't want 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 hanging out of dresses while you reach down to shakes the hands of children. You don't want your butt crack or nipple showing in your outfit.
No jeans to a funeral or state event. Things like that. No different than a commoner.

Well, yes, I understand the appropriate dress for the type of event, but that's not what I was asking, really.

I keep reading these almost slur remarks about " The Queen won't allow that to be worn" or " The Queen will give her or him an earful if they wear ( that garment) to (this event)" or " How did the Queen approve ?"

I read this every single day. And it's people in the UK making the comments.
So, what I'm actually and sincerely asking is: Where did this idea of " Speaking as the Queen" come from? Is it supposed to be a joke or a slur? It seems strange to me, but maybe because my mother did approve all my clothing until I was in college.

I know some of the things she does expect or request that Prince Charles and his sons and wives to do in respect to her, and none of them involve their clothing choices, LOL..
Birth announcement is phoned by the father to her first, then paper version posted on the palace gate or near it, the respect of informing her of the names they've thought of for their new arrival, and maybe an understanding that her children and spouses are or will become members of the Church Of England, since she's the head of it.

Britain has similar rules to the USA's about what gifts can be accepted by a person representing the country, and which have to be returned or declined due to a high valuation. I love to see the archival photos of what had to be sent back, LOL.

I found a photo of the earrings Catherine is wearing with the Gucci pink and cream evening dress. Wowza! They l00k like massive stones - pink tourmaline perhaps? Gorgeous and just the right amount of dazzle to accompany the ethereal body conscious dress.

I really do respect her recycling her clothes and I’m loving that she feels she is no better than us. Isn’t that what the royals are about? Charity and being charitable.

I think most of their clothes are given to them and it’s a windfall if they’re seen in a company’s garment or accessories.
Meaghan held an Australian Oroton bag and it saved the company from closing.

Royal bride-to-be Meghan Markle has given Australian fashion a shot in the arm by wearing not one, but two, Australian labels to an event overnight.
While her Camilla and Marc two-button blazer was a chic choice, it's her Oroton crossbody bag that has tongues in fashion circles wagging – in a good way.

For those not in the know, Oroton went into administration last year, with the brand falling victim to increased competition from overseas brands such as Michael Kors and Coach.

They don’t get free clothing it’s not allowed. They don’t want to get in a situation where brands are dictating what they have to wear or show favouritism to certain brands. Any gifts have to be declared for tax purposes. You can’t imagine the number of brands that send free stuff to the Royals hoping they will wear them and it all gets sent back. I’m sure they don’t pay full retail though for the clothing they do buy.

I’m sorry, I stand corrected.

Her Majesty is the only person in the UK who can drive without a license, even though driving licenses are issued in her name. Among her many privileges, she has never needed to take a driving test and is allowed to drive without a number plate on her state car.

Why the Queen doesn't need a driving license

I am sure it is a write off I keep expecting it to appear on eBay for £250,000 maybe it will be crushed so that doesn’t happen.

No apologies necessary this is a lighthearted thread. I’m sure they would love the free clothing if it was allowed and it didn’t look bad PR wise to the public.

Last year, Will, Harry and Kate got $4.8 million between them to fund their public lives, which includes salaries, office costs, and other expenses, like clothes. This doesn't mean they spent that much money on shoes, though—but a girl can dream, right? And, specifically, we all know Kate would be dreaming of cork wedges.
Apparently, that number went up to $6.5 million this past year to accommodate Meghan joining the fam—and also because Queen Elizabeth has stepped back a little from her royal duties, which means the younger generation has to pick up the slack.

Boy gregrichards I had that wrong.
Okay, but can't they just get free clothes from designers?
Even though every designer in the world would be thrilled to send them freebies (even without expecting Instagram promo, because we know the royals aren't allowed social media), there's a hard and fast royal rule stating they can't accept gifts. "[Kate] doesn’t take free clothes, and I’ve heard that from other people who sent her things," Katherine Hooker, whose designs Kate has worn, told Huffington Post in 2013.

The family can, however, request clothes from designers and send back whatever they don't use, so it's like Rent the Runway, but with Chanel. They pay for the clothes they end up wearing

Speaking about cars....
You’re up late gregrichards.
Mystery over car Princess Diana was killed inside after Mercedes disappears in France
After the verdict was delivered in 2008, it had been planned the car would be destroyed to save it falling into the hands of souvenir hunters.
But it's now emerged the Mercedes S280 - owned by Etoile Limousines - was returned to France in 2009.
Etoile Limousines owner Jean-Francois Musa said earlier this month that he wants the car to return to Paris so he can give it to a US museum as a “mark of respect” to the tragic royal .

Experts claim the vehicle could fetch up to £10million at auction.

But Diana's former bodyguard Ken Wharfe branded the move “distasteful” and said that putting Princess Diana’s death car in a museum will act as a magnet for ghouls.

Mr Wharfe said: “There seems to be no thought for her family who would find this incredibly upsetting that sick ghouls would be visiting this disturbing piece of history.”

I know I can’t sleep I feel terrible and I’m trying to get rid of a bad UTI infection I have had a few weeks.

That would be a terrible idea putting the car in a museum. It still angers me the French government have not put crash barriers up in the tunnel where Princess Diana died.

This is totally SICK. I hope it's not allowed to be put on display ANYWHERE. I feel ashamed that a US resident wants to exploit her tragic death in this way.

Take care with that UTI as my daughter’s went to her kidneys. Huge loving cyber hugs from down under.

I read another report that the Merc is rotting in a storage container in France.
They were told to destroy it but why would they when it’s worth a fortune. Double edged sword sadly.

When I've been in Paris since her death, I tip the drivers as soon as I am seated to avoid the Pont de l'Alma tunnel even if it means a long detour. I also always choose a hotel other than the Ritz, one with almost as much glamorous history but not the association with her last day and evening on this earth.

Thank you very much for your kindness. I’m sorry your daughter’s UTI went to her kidneys that is horrendous. I got out of hospital last week with it and I’m still on antibiotics because the infection is not away it is driving me crazy. Which part of Australia are you from? It is a beautiful country.

I hope the Mercedes rusts away into dust it should have been destroyed after the investigation was complete.

I suppose when we say 'the Queen' we mean the Palace. As in the network of advisors etc. The Queen's personal opinion will come into it but much is run according to tradition and what's expected.

Goodness, you and gregjrichards both take care, then.
I hope the fires stop and your weather pattern stabilizes. Sounds a great bit like California's droughts to floods with fires.

Drink lots of fluids unless you have a pre-existing fluid restriction for another condition, and take ALL your antibiotics even after you're feeling OK. Have they changed the antibiotic to try to hit the infection harder? Two weeks is one week and a half too long, my friend.

Get well soon!
