The Queen doesn't make decisions about what her children and grandchildren wear while on official duty. She is the Queen of Britain and it's commonwealth, she has more important things to do. She doesn't micromanage, there are staff that takes care of multiple things.
They have a dress code, similar to the rest of us having a dress code for work.
You don't wanthanging out of dresses while you reach down to shakes the hands of children. You don't want your butt crack or nipple showing in your outfit.
No jeans to a funeral or state event. Things like that. No different than a commoner.
Well, yes, I understand the appropriate dress for the type of event, but that's not what I was asking, really.
I keep reading these almost slur remarks about " The Queen won't allow that to be worn" or " The Queen will give her or him an earful if they wear ( that garment) to (this event)" or " How did the Queen approve ?"
I read this every single day. And it's people in the UK making the comments.
So, what I'm actually and sincerely asking is: Where did this idea of " Speaking as the Queen" come from? Is it supposed to be a joke or a slur? It seems strange to me, but maybe because my mother did approve all my clothing until I was in college.
I know some of the things she does expect or request that Prince Charles and his sons and wives to do in respect to her, and none of them involve their clothing choices, LOL..
Birth announcement is phoned by the father to her first, then paper version posted on the palace gate or near it, the respect of informing her of the names they've thought of for their new arrival, and maybe an understanding that her children and spouses are or will become members of the Church Of England, since she's the head of it.
Britain has similar rules to the USA's about what gifts can be accepted by a person representing the country, and which have to be returned or declined due to a high valuation. I love to see the archival photos of what had to be sent back, LOL.
