We have a President who invaded a sovereign nation on bad intelligence - a nation which had killed not one single American citizen and had nothing to do with 911.....we have a President who thinks it is ok to round up people and hold them with no evidence indefinately and who thinks torture is fine and dandy...never mind what it also does to the soul of the torturer...............
recently a Canadian citizen told his story of being stopped by the US, sent to Syria, tortured and then released..........he was innocent...he said he would have said anything to avoid being tortured...
More and more military leaders are saying they want no part of any torture that it endangers our own soldiers and is against the rules of warfare.........
I just heard an interview with a CIA agent yesterday who says that the best way to get info from a terrorist or anyone else is to build relationships with them...that works and gets results...in the past, he said that when torture has been used, it has sent agents on wild goose chases that produced nothing.......................he also said that that shows like 24 are really bad and our promoting the idea that this is the way to get things done.....it was a fascinating interview and one that I hope all "Christians" who support war and have yellow ribbons and flags on the back of their gas guzzlers will contemplate.............
We are literally creating enemies faster than we can kill them and if what happened yesterday at the UN is any indication, other nations are starting to circle the wagons.............it's time to throw out the neo cons and bring some rationality back to Washington....................

This is well beyond the point of making a few political statements is what I'm saying. If they wanted to express their opinions through their music like many other musicians do then that's fine with me. 'Pink' recently put out a song "Dear Mr President". Hasn't hurt her any. I just don't understand Natalie's hostility and imo there's more to it than a political viewpoint.

Interesting enough I picked up the National Enquirer yesterday and there's an article stating Natalie is battling drug addiction (prescription drugs). According to the NE Natalie injured her wrist about 6 months ago - was prescribed hydrocodone (Vicodin or Norco) and became addicted - still using it after her wrist had healed.

"Friends say Natalie's behavior changed drastically and that she became a "nightmare to deal with". She was constantly flying off the handle and yelling at the slightest provocation""......." According to the source, Natalie was losing her focus during rehearsals, disappearing in the middle of the day to sleep and throwing temper tantrums."....."In one two-week period, she went through at least 100 pills."....."On tour, she would call doctors in different cities trying to get a prescription. She'd also ask around, seeing who else had a prescription, then ask for a handful."

Apparently she's now involved in a detox program -"blood cleansing".

If they just paid all of it, it would get limited attention... which would not get the retrial these defendants want. I am on the fence on their guilt... sometimes I think they did it, then I hear something else and I think they deserve a retrial.

Plus, what other way would the public know that Natalee and her friends are doing something good? Perhaps, her fans will contribute, go to their concerts and buy more of their CD's as a way to show their admiration and appreciation...

The Dixie Chicks need a way to constantly get their names in the news. They are not even a blip on the Country Music radar any longer...you know, the hick fans that they now so despise...the ones that made them rich and famous in the first place...

The "Paradise" filmmakers didn't start the first film with an eye to defending the accused killers, but they were quickly and deeply affected by the obvious miscarriage of justice. (Even if the WM3 are guilty, which is doubtful IMHO, that guilt wasn't proven by the show trials they were given in Arkansas.)

As for the Dixie Chicks, they are once again using their celebrity (which is considerable, whether some people here like it or not) as a vehicle to expose the truth. Elphaba has already explained why contributing money anonymously won't serve to bring needed attention to the travesty that is the Arkansas judicial system.

What escapes me is why some of you are so determined to hate women who speak truth to power.

Thats why they are called movies. A documentary presents the facts about people and events, these are biased movies based on what they pick and choose to film based on their beleifs. Real documentaries have been made by people, robots lack the dexterity. I have no qualms with the movies - I am on the fence. You are absolutely right, Olivia. I don't know who killed those children, but the WM3 were convicted by a backwoods judicial system (as Arkansas posters here have been the first to point out) using inflammatory evidence that would have been inadmissible almost anywhere else. Shedding the light of publicity on that system is as important as contributing money.

And though celebrities have lent their names to this cause before, it's been a long, long struggle and there's no reason to believe it will end soon.

SOMEBODY has to do something to keep the pressure on Arkansas. It's not surprising that the Dixie Chicks are the ones with the guts to do it.

(As for the guilt of the WM3, if you take away a coerced confession, small town rumors that were later recanted or discredited, and "expert" testimony proffered by those without credentials, there really isn't any evidence left against them. For all we know, ANYONE in Arkansas that day could be the killer(s).)

I think that by getting others involved they are spreading awareness about the case. I don't think it's just about the money. Keep the case in the public eye may expedite getting them freed if they are indeed innocent.

Disingenuous? Just kidding. But to meet your standard, a "documentary" would have to somehow film everything and edit nothing. There is no such animal. EVERY documentary involves choices that have to be made on some basis and which have an effect on the final product.

Yes, documentary makers generally feel a different responsibility to "objective" truth than is felt by some fictional film makers. But that difference is always and only a matter of degree.

Just because you, personally, reject ANY and EVERY suggestion that political authorities may be less than perfect doesn't mean the Paradise filmmakers abdicated their responsibility. I don't know anyone who accuses the filmmakers of undue bias EXCEPT the very miscreants their film exposed.

OMG, you mean "another" celebrity "using" her "star" power to enlist attention and donations to a "good cause" to help "three" men who may be innocent get out of jail, where they don't belong and attempt to have them released from prison to the "outside" where they do belong.

Gee, I am shocked. Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, people who attend "fundraisers" for many different diverse causes are all cut from the "similar" cloth as DC..

OMG, can you imagine the "good" press that DC will reap if their actions do "lead" to three innocent men out of prison. Can you imagine how the three men will feel.
