I have no experience with crime-related matters other than reading about it, watching Court TV sometimes, the mysteries explored on TV, etc.

With that said, is there any way for us to either phone or email FOXnews, CNN, Court TV, and could it possibly make a difference?

Thanks to SH ( I'm sorry, I don't remember his exact WS hat) for writing to Greta last night.. I hope he has something to report back to us when he has time.

Can and should we try to contact media and if so, what would be the best way to bring the case to the forefront? I want to help, I need your assistance with this part.

If I am stupid for thinking in this direction, I apologize for my naive questions.

I wrote Greta a few nights ago, and Nancy Grace as well as the general fox news and CNN email addresses for news submissions. No responses yet. I also wrote a person covering the story in Durham and did get a reply. I asked if there was any new news and she wrote back no, but she is staying on the story...

I am really glad others appear to have written these outlets. My WS nick is misterallgood, by the way, a moniker my wife finds ironic, I'm sure :p

The prioritizing of news coverage is becoming a mystery in and of itself to me. I was thinking it might sometimes tie into disappearances, which are troubling and create an ongoing tension, but Jennifer Corbin didn't disappear, and few believed it was a suicide from the beginning. So go figure.

I don't think your questions were naive, and at the moment I've received no contact from the people I wrote. I'll let y'all know immediately if I do.

thinkoflaura, I think you're onto something with the idea that the email could actually be an IM conversation.

You mentioned Janet had a BLOG. I haven't run across one yet, do you have a link?

I just don't get the sense that he was promoting Janet at all much less as a meal ticket. It's almost as if she is a non-entity, bit-player, or an after-thought in Raven's World. If he was using her to achieve the big-time, I would think that at least once through his web incarnations that she would have been truly featured. You can barely tell anything about her as a person through his sites.
I don't find it strange at all, considering the traditional teachings of the LDS church.
I don't know how much things have changed since my World Religions college courses, but the dates of publication of the textbook and related material are fairly recent.
Cognizant of copyright laws, and aware that anyone can pull up similar information on the Internet just as easily, I am not going to copy and paste a summary of the traditional family structure and teachings of the Prophets and also the current teachings of the LDS church.

This LDS couple married in college, at the age when they are encouraged to marry by their church. Maybe they did believe the larger scope of traditional LDS values, especially if their families brought them up in the LDS church. We know they " visited" the Salt Lake City Temple.. perhaps they had a temple recommendation and were sealed in the temple at that time. I don't know for certain how far they participated in their religion as a couple or if they planned to do this in the future.

Women are not put at the forefront except in the role of being a cherished wife and a beloved mother. Suffice it to say that I don't find it strange at all that Janet was NOT promoted separately from Raven, especially after she became pregnant. Mothers are encouraged to stay at home with their children until the children are in college or on a mission, if possible. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, because it used to be the norm for all of this country. Go back 40-50 years and a large percentage of women post- WWII were stay at home mothers and wives because they could do so economically, and because they wanted to stay home and cook, clean house and nurture their children.
I am not that old, but when I was a child, I didn't have any friends in daycare or with a mother who worked outside the home. I didn't know anyone with a single parent household until I was of high school age. ( I also never heard of the LDS church until I was in college, so religion was not a factor).

Women entered the workplace for many reasons, usually for self- fulfillment., and also because our country became a more materially-oriented society through the world of television and advertising, which escalated greatly in the 1070's and after.

If a person has a different set of values, then their self-fulfillment comes from following those values, not what society as a whole is doing.
The LDS church and their Prophet have held onto this value system of a woman being a wife and mother above all else.. It is tied into their belief of what eternal life will be, based upon their works as a family in this life.
I think it's an admirable goal... if financial stressors are not a disruptive factor.

Women are taught how to grow and can their own vegetables at a commercial cannery which the stakes ( areas of LDS churches) lease. The wards have free swap meets where clothing is exchanged among members, with an emphasis on growing children's clothing needs. Generally, the emphasis on how to stretch the household budget as far as possible is fostered by a program within the LDS church. It is a weekly ongoing women- only meeting called " Relief Society", and was started when Brigham Young settled in Utah.

Mrallgood, I am so sorry that I could not remember the nick. Please accept my apology. :blushing: I should have. I kept thinking " Mr. Goodbar".. The chocoholic never dies, LOL. I didn't want to call you by the wrong nickname, as it seems very discourteous.

Do you see any merit in more emails to the media by more of us? Again, this is an area in which I have no experience.. I feel so utterly inadequate.

PrayersforMaura, when you contact them, do you basically restate the facts of the case, and ask for updated coverage, or do you make it a personalized plea for help in finding Janet's murderer?
I hope this is not too personal a question to ask.
I want to do my part, but I am not sure what the proper format and protocol is.

Thank you for what you have done and are doing.
I want to do my part as well.

I screwed up. HER blog is archived.. well, no, that's not correct. The TITLE graphic is archived, the blog entries are deleted.. not found.
http://web.archive.org/web/20010421132101/www.ravenstree.com/janets_place.htm

I am so sorry for the mistake.
However, every time I look through these things, I find something which might be useful info.
They DID have MSN messenger at the time of Janet's murder!
On Raven's April 25 BLOG entry, there is a link to a page called " Blogger- user profile".http://www.blogger.com/profile/8523421

Top left has a box
"Contact

  • FuTBaLrGuY (MSN) "
Thanks.

Sorry, there isn't such a user on ebay that I found... at least not currently registered.

My daughter checked out the MSN profile page. There was really nothing there. his chat room name added cali to it referring to that he was originally from california, but indicated he was in NC. No personal info as far as married/single or anything. Last update was 2003

yeah, I posted a link yesterday about a write up for him at a job he had in 2001 and he did live in Utah and California before north carolina. And I believe they both went to college in virginia right?

This is what I have been able to find out about their past places of residence:
"Janet and I met on August 17, 1998. It was in the Main Hall of Southern Virginia College where I (Raven) made the move that would change my life forever."
From Raven's deleted BLOG archived at http://web.archive.org/web/20010408184401/www.ravenstree.com/the_couple.htm

The guy who posted on his blog about the deleted condolances to Raven and showed screen shots of the one from the reporter ( is the BLOGGER Zucker)
says that he and his family knew the couple when they resided in Carrboro, NC.
This may be where they owned a house.
However, because it is in Orange County, NC, I am unable to access property records, which often have a purchase history.. That particular county ( which includes Chapel Hill) has very restricted online property search.

Also, the deleted jpgs of ther " House" folder are dated 2001. There is no way to retrieve the lost data.. Only the folder name and jpg names remain.
I find it strange that they would have owned ONE house at age 21, then no other real estate property ownership found in their last names since then. Maybe they were always renters, not owners... I tend to think that they were renting from a fellow LDS church member. Often , an elder will offer a lease/ purchase to young couples in their ward.

The MSN messenger account was active on Raven's post to his blog on 4/24/05. He listed it as a contact point.

My point was that perhaps Janet was using a real-time IM when she heard a vehicle in their gravel driveway, or when something began to happen in the couple's bedroom which led to her murder, and that perhaps she typed a short message about something which was alarming to the person reading the message. This is speculation, but is based upon a poster's question of why a co-worker or co-workers were concerned about her well-being based upon Internet communication..
I was pointing out that there is an active MSN messenger account for Raven, at least.
Janet probably had an IM signon nickname as well if she shared his computer.
I never thoguht the MSN messenger account was connected to anything other than their home computer.

I wrote that sentence about the MSN name being for their home computer use 3 times, and it sounded prissy every time. I'm sorry.

I just don't want to mislead with my very imperfect wording. We have so little case info as it is..:(

Have any of you speculated on what the pawn ticket is for? I think it might be the usual diamond wedding rings, or maybe Raven's Isuzu truck which he devoted an entire page to in his BLOG. Seems to have gone missing recently.. Do pawn shops of any type hold a vehichle? I don't know.. never have been inside a pawn shop except once. It was a very strange place with lots of drum sets and electric guitars for sale, LOL.

I'm curious about the truck as well & what about the motorcycle? Do we have any confirmation that they still had the dog and cats? A lot of times people jetison their pets after the birth of the first child. Don't you think if they still had that dog (looked like a lab) that it might have been protective of Janet?

on his classmates profile, I thought he listed having 2 dogs and cats... maybe they got rid of a dog or it died?

I wonder if he pawned something or bought something and what time the item was pawned or bought. Also, there was a knife confiscated from the truck? Was it the same knife used to murder Janet?
And were the gunshots or not? I could've sworn I read somewhere that casings were collected at the scene but now I can't find it so I might be going crazy....
