On January 1, 2023 at approximately 12:00 pm Macon County North Carolina Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Walnut Creek area following a 911 call that had been placed in reference to an ongoing dispute. Upon arrival, deputies found a male victim at the location and it was obvious to responding deputies that the victim had been involved in the reported altercation. The victim was unresponsive at the time of the arrival. Macon County EMS and Cullasaja First Responders responded but the victim, later identified as 30 yar old Nathan Humphries, was determined to be deceased.

FRANKLIN, N.C. (WLOS) — Macon County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a 30-year-old husband and father of three young children died Jan. 1, 2023, following what authorities said was an ongoing dispute that led to an altercation.

This article is from a local news source (it says pretty much the same as the first. I'm not finding much information in MSM following these initial reports): Macon County Sheriff's Office launches murder investigation New Years Day - The Southern Scoop

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased individual,” said Sheriff Holbrooks. “As your Sheriff, I want to assure our community that no stone will go unturned while we conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and get to the truth of exactly what happened.”

Tried requesting public records on this case but Macon County Courts would not release them

I don't find any arrests of interest in subsequent days/weeks in the local paper: Arrest Reports Archives - The Macon County News

Edited for clarify.
Looks like ashton stiwinter, 23, of franklin was recently Arrested. I think it's his step brother (which that side of the family was left out of obituary) it appears either Humphreys or him either wanted to remove a tree from Humphreys StepDad / Stiwinter's Biological Dad's Property. It appears Humphreys had a tree business but the stepbrother called 911 before the incident About a tree and Humphreys was causing problems and Doesn't live there. It seems like Humphreys might have viewed him as his only parent since his Mother had already passed but I bet it was something over money / Inheritance or the younger guy overcharging his father (just speculating) but I do Find it Disturbing that Humphreys Wife couldn't reach her husband bc multiple men were blocking her from doing CPR. Doesn't sound like a fair fight and then you make sure he dies by keeping him from receiving help. I'd like to see the reports because it sounds like more individuals should be arrested.

Also Ashton had been arrested before for property damage; sounds like he's got a short temper but he probably learned it from his father. And Humphreys has arrests For B&E & property crime as well so who knows what happened until more details are given
