DEFENCE CALLS DANIEL FREEMAN

--Daniel is currently 29 years old. He lives in Gilbert. Lived there from 2001-2006 and lived in Canada for two years as a missionary. Moved back in 2008 and moved away a few months ago.
--October 2006 to October/November 2008 he was a missionary in Canada
--he is a member of the Mormon church
--as a missionary he shared his beliefs with people. Did work with less active members of the church.
--his missionary work was to help people to connect with a higher power and live the things they knew to be true.
--There is a process of events involved in learning about the beliefs of the church. They would talk about the book of Mormon, and to pray and talk to them about the church and how it was organized and founded. People would eventually be invited to attend church.
--Ultimately people would be baptised into the church.
--You would become friends with the people you teach.
--As a missionary you seek to baptise people who want to be a part of the church and serve within the community.
--Daniel knew Travis through Pre Paid Legal. Daniel worked for PPL for several months and met Travis and Chris Hughes at a regional event.
--Daniel was not directly underneath Travis in the PPL pyramid.
--Daniel thinks he met Travis in 2003 or 2004.
--Travis was a friend as well as a business associate.
--Daniel found Travis to be cocky the first time he met him but they became very good friends.
--During their friendship, Travis introduced Jodi. Daniel was a roommate of Travis' and he was going to a super saturday event with Hughes and asked Daniel if he wanted to go. Stopped by to see Jodi. It was after midnight.
--Was Jodi expecting their arrival? Daniel doesn't think so.
--When Jodi opened the door she "was quite surprised".
--When she opened the door Jodi was surprised she gave Travis a hug. Jodi and Travis talked and then went off into the back laughing and talking. Daniel fell asleep watching a movie.
--Daniel would have been at the house for approximately and hour.
--After meeting Jodi, they were on friendly terms at the PPL events.
--Daniel only spent time with Jodi when Travis was busy at events. Was never alone, just the two of them.
--Daniel was Travis' roommate for 3-4 months. This was around the time Travis introduced Jodi to Daniel.
--Daniel is not actively involved with PPL right now. He stopped in 2006 when he went on his mission.
--Daniel travelled with Jodi and Travis. Once when they went to H??? and then the Grand Canyon.
--re: Havi???? trip, Daniel is having trouble remembering as he has moved 50 times.
--the trip was at the end of 2007. Jodi and Travis "were a couple". Daniel says that to him Travis and Jodi acted like a couple.
--Says that there were a issues they were working out but he didn't get into it.
--When Travis was in public with Jodi he acted differently.
--There were different groups of friends that would hang out and Jodi was not part of those groups.
--Havisupi (??) they were "acting like a couple". They would flir and tease and hold hands. Very intimate in the way they conversed. Very comforatable in each other's company, not overly expressive in front of other people.
--When they were on the trip Travis and Jodi would hold hands in the waterfall when they would swim. Jodi would sit on Travis' lap. Have their arms around each other for a photo. This was different then how they would act an event or at a friend's gathering.
--When they started the trip, when Daniel spoke to Travis he said that he loved Jodi but he wanted to date other people.
--As they were getting ready to go Jodi had packed her pack and it was quite heavy, Daniel opened it and found girl things such as lotions. Daniel took them out to make the pack light and Jodi expressed concern about her items being taken out.
--Travis talked loud and Jodi went upstairs and started crying, they argued back and forth upstairs. Daniel then went upstairs to desescalate the arguement.
--They then got into the car to start their trip. Travis and Jodi weren't talking to each other but within half an hour they were joking and talking.
--Late summer 2007, Daniel does not recall at the time of the trips if Travis was dating anybody else. Does not remember if Travis was dating Lisa. Remembers that Lisa came with them when they went out to eat.
--They went to Dennys to eat, Daniel's imression was that it was a double date. Lisa and Travis were flirting and talking. Travis was making jokes. Daniel got the impression that Travis was interested in Lisa, that he enjoyed hanging out and spending time with her.

Defence asks to approach the bench

Ugh. I really don't like when a witness blabs and can't answer questions with simple answers.

Lacey, everyone of the defense witnesses have been more favorable for the prosecution than the defense. Ive never seen any trial like it. He shuts them down time and time again........one witness after another.

OT: OMG!!!!!!!!!! We just heard a loud crash outside and rushed to the door and our Gazebo is upside down about thirty feet away from where it was. Its ruined and all my clay pots are shattered. It took stone pavers and moved them 20 feet. Please pray that the weather calms down here.

I hope you all are ok. I havent been able to pull myself away from this trial today to do anything else... Stay safe!!!

I am so glad I was raised Presbyterian! We were allowed to do anything! Dance, drink.........bring it on!

I was raised southern Baptist and was always jealous of my Presbyterian friends who I found out later in life were jealous of our Episcopalian friends who were Presbyterian just with ALOT of money! :floorlaugh:

If I was a juror I would give a three for one DP conviction to the whole defense table, for wasting my time with this nonsense.

omg, I was seriously waiting for him to say that he found a big industrial sized bottle of .... KY lol

Me too! Glad I am not alone. :)

Travis kept Jodi in a different peer group. Pffffft.

Where's the proof of severe domestic abuse?

That's just it there really is none. Just in Jodi's mind. She couldn't take rejection. I think almost everybody has been rejected at least one time in their life but we don't stab and shoot them. In my case I cried and then moved on, and then wonderd what the heck did I see in the jerk anyway.

:woohoo: The jury gets escorts!! I wish I was on that jury. :great:

Just a side note since this testimony is so pointless. My sweet, mellow, surfer boy-of-a-nephew who grew up in Newport was sent to Novosibirsk, Siberia on his Mission! This was quite a shock to my family and when my Granny said that that was where he was being sent I thought she was kidding. He said that vodka was cheaper than water there.

It's hard to gauge this type of testimony because of the low threshold that Mormons consider dating, if that makes sense.

The judge: Some of the evidence may elicit emotions. You should not be influenced by sympathy or prejudice. The court has arranged for an escort for each juror to take them downstairs and then out to the bus at the end of the day. Remove your juror badge if you have concerned about being approached. Have a nice evening. We will see you tomorrow at 10:30.

Judge Stephens, we will take the recess at this time, speaking to the jury, some of the evidence in this matter may elicit emotional response from the people in the court, at this point in evaluating the evidence you should not be influenced by sympathy or prejudice, in response to the incident yesterday with the one juror the court will have security to take all of you downstairs for lunch and at the end of the court day. Remove juror badge as you exit building, media has been approached and they are aware they are not to contact any jurors. Council is there anything else we need to address, ok we are adjourned.

I thought California court hours were short- Arizona even has us beat! Late court start times, long lunch and out of there by 4:30. Wish I had a job like that!

I doubt I remember those last two witnesses... I doubt anyone else will either... Kind of pointless to call them... Where was Gus when we needed an afternoon giggle?

  • #1,919
Too bad he didn't say that he found a knife and a 25mm gun when he opened her backpack. Now that woulda been a bombshell!

After today I believe wholeheartedly she will be convicted of 1st degree murder and the questions the jurors asked Lisa will play heavily into that verdict.
