The Use of the Shovel

  • #301
I agree, borrowing a shovel to get the ladder out the pool makes no sense. There must have been a broom, or pole or some kind in the house/garage to use for that purpose. A shovel would not even be a good tool for that. So, IMO, getting the ladder out of pool story is just a big lie. The fact that she would lie about it means she did something nasty with that borrowed shovel.

Great observation-The ladder in the pool thing might have been KC hedging her bets early on re: getting arrested, the DP or LWOP...Maybe she wanted to drop the pool in the mix so she could come back to accidental drowning later, if necessary.
Now that she sees that no one can quite figure out what she has done, she has clammed up.

We don't seem to be reaching a consensus on what the shovel was used for, although the 'moving mulch/making an ineffectual effort to bury the body in the back yard' theory seems to be moving ahead.. (I still think it was used to move the ladder...but who knows?)

Having got tired of the shovel problem, I found myself wondering if KC could have just wanted to speak to the neighbour ..maybe the shovel as such wasn't the point..

Maybe she wanted to test the waters, see if the neighbour had maybe seen or heard anything he shouldn't have.. so go over to chat with him and see if he asks any awkward questions.

Or perhaps she was thinking of asking for his help moving something or fixing something wrong with the car.. change a tire or something.. but decided against it, asked for a shovel instead just to have some reason for coming over to his yard.

Bringing this over from 09/29/09 doc dump thread, as this pertains to the shovel and the evidence lists in today's dump...

A Play Sand bag (empty, because sand was not on the list) was found at the remains site per today's doc dump... This may have been listed in a previous dump, sorry this is my first time seeing it...

Perhaps the empty play sand bag is where the shovel comes in-KC does hide Caylee's body in the sand box (she could not have the body in the car on the 17th cause she had to give TL a ride), and when she comes back to remove her later , there is fluid in the sand, causing it to clump-KC knows not to touch the sand (gross and it smells), so she borrows a shovel to remove the sand like clumped cat litter, and replaces it with a fresh bag-Maybe a bag kept in the pool locker (or as someone pointed out at the other thread, maybe she bought it somewhere and we've yet to see the receipt).

Where is the bag of soiled sand, though, if this is the scenario-hmm, have to think on it.

Page 47 of pdf.

ETA-She couldn't leave the empty bag of play sand at the house, so she took it with her.
EAgainTA-When she is cleaning out the sandbox, she places Caylee to the side, between the sandbox and the playhouse, or obscures it behind the playhouse while she goes to borrow the shovel-Where exactly did the dogs hit?

why is cfnews reporting the shovel as having come from KC's trunk, but then the link they provide goes to FBI docs regarding BB's shovel-Is the media mis-reoporting this, was there a second shovel in KC's trunk?

Do you think if the A's had seen a shovel in the trunk of KC's car it would have been a BIG RED FLAG to them? If one was found in the trunk they would have removed it immediately as was done with KC's pants. JMO

Since the dogs hit in the yard, I think she attempted to bury Caylee. It was way too much work for KC to dig a deep hole, so she eventually brought back the shovel and put the body in the trunk of the car.

I can't imagine why KC would actually bury Caylee right under her parents noses UNLESS, in doing so she could later claim that they did it.

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round

The wheels on the bus go round and round all over the A's ............

On August 15th, 2008 Greta Van Susteren conducted a two part interview at the Anthony home. While in the backyard she asked Cindy about whether KC had said she did, in fact, borrow a shovel from the neighbor. Cindy answered yes and Greta asked if KC had said what for. Cindy stated "for the bamboo" and went on a ramble about how aggressive the bamboo grew, etc.

How did Cindy know this? I have put myself through the torturous process of rewatching every jail visit video and unless I nodded off in the middle of it, the shovel issue was never discussed.

Believe the answer to your question was given by TMc's audio tape. IIRC, she was in the kitchen when KC started discussing the shovel and KC:doh: :liar: and CA  :liar: differing answers. It was discussed in the TMc thread.

I know what ya mean about who, what and why was discussed. It is so confusing sometimes. Problem I see with it all is that those document dumps were not chronologically released. Have faith that SA has it all together in order for the jury! I do.

IIRC, the neighbor BB said that she had asked for the shovel to dig up a bamboo shoot they were tripping over or something. But Tracy the bail bondsman's worker who stayed in the home with Casey said that when the shovel subject was on TV, Casey stated in front of Tracy that she had borrowed the shovel to pull the ladder out of the pool. (? I think.) I always liked some of your guys' theory that she really borrowed it for the break in of the shed, though.

Correct, wrt BB.

No, that would not be the answer to my question. Because this was before KC was bonded out the first time. That's my point.

Okay, this answers it. BB stated she had said that. THANK YOU!

The info can be found in the BB interview. He is the first we heard from regarding the issue of the shovel and bamboo. Hope this helps!

Oh yea! :banghead: I mean, it was all over the news via BB well before KC was bonded out. There's so many details in this case that makes it so easy to overlook things we learned in the very beginning. I know many of us go over the old docs a lot to refresh our memory, but it's still hard to keep track of everything.. especially the little details from over a year ago.

I think I'll go over some old docs now just for the heck of it.

Glad the shovel borrowing evidence is going to be before the jury.

I wonder if Caylee was with KC when she asked to borrow the shovel.

Don't know if GA or CA where home and watching Caylee? I know I wouldn't leave my children at that age alone in the house for 2 seconds to borrow a shovel.

Could some of the jurors wonder the same thing? Where was Caylee at that time?

Did the A's not have a shovel in the shed?

These would be the thoughts I would have if I were on this jury. JMO
