Tiger kills man at San Francisco Zoo (Part 2)

Okay, first of all, let me state that the zoo should have changed the tiger exhibit years ago, it's obvious by looking at it when you are there, that the walls were too short. That being said, the tiger never had enough provocation in the past to escape.
These guys pissed her off. Reportedly they found a bottle of vodka in their car, the Dhaliwal brothers lied to the victim's father, were uncooperative with the police, and pinecones and sticks were found in the tiger enclosure as well as slingshots found by medical workers on the Dhaliwal brothers. I do believe they got what they deserved. An endanger tiger also got killed because of these jerks stupidity and cruelty! Now the zoo is no longer a safe place, they have ruined it for everyone, and Souza died unneedlessly, believing these idiots were his friends.

Why are so many quick to believe that the brothers were up to no good and taunting the tiger, but their friend who was killed had just - what? - stopped by the zoo on Christmas Day after he had spent his morning feeding the homeless and clothing abandoned children???!!!

If two of them were there up to no good and their friend was with them - might we not conclude that the friend was up to no good as well - and contributed to his own death????

Just on CNN.
New witness comes forward.
Will be on in a sec.....

Also from the article:

Mollinedo - who has acknowledged that the tiger exhibit wall is four feet below national guidelines - indicated again that he believes that the tiger was taunted.

"All I know is that something happened to provoke that tiger to leap out of her exhibit," Mollinedo said. "The police are investigating it and until they can come up with some definitive answers, it would only be speculation on my part at this point."

Here is an example of what I've been talking about (the systematic effort to blame the young men.)

"All I KNOW is that SOMETHING HAPPENED TO PROVOKE that tiger." No, he does not know that. He does know his wall was short enough that every tiger expert is saying the tiger could have scaled the wall with no assistance. He may BELIEVE the boys taunted the tiger. But he cannot KNOW it unless there are witnesses to taunting......he won't KNOW this until the police finish their investigation, or until people come forward saying they saw Carlos and the brothers dangling themselves over the wall or saw them throwing sticks at Tatiana, etc.

Mollinedo admits it's just speculation on his part, but he is using strong definitive language to get it out there that the boys are responsible. He knows he is liable, and he is trying like heck to limit his liability.

Absolutely, kgeaux!!! The only way for the zoo to limit its obvious liability is to discredit the victims and make sure everyone thinks they played a role in the attack. That may be true - but even the zoo has said that they have not finished investigating the incident. This is all spin, spin and more spin. The zoo knows it's going to pay money - it's is doing everything it can to have to pay less!

Mother with her children saw "4" young men there, 3 taunting the tiger.
The 17 year old that died wasn't doing that.
She was so upset, she left with her children..

I wonder who is/was the 4th man.

Four? She saw four men taunting the tiger?

Who the heck is number four? And was the fourth man one of the three taunters?

Did she say what they were doing?

Wasn't said what she meant by taunting.....

Taunting how - slingshotting hard objects at the tiger or criticizing it's coat? Did the mother alert anyone?

This is it!!! This is really what it boils down to. These guys may have been the ugliest of guests but the zoo still should have had enough safe guards to protect the public from any wild animal getting to a guest in the park.
What if these boys were surrounded by a car load of daycare kids?

They weren't boys!

I think it's pretty extremely likely they were taunting the tiger (and - tiger's don't speak English - when I speak of 'taunting' the tiger, I don't mean making stupid knock-knock jokes, or making noises - that's hitting it with a BB gun (my first guess) or other missiles) - this tiger has been there for quite some time, and the first time it decides to jump the wall and attack someone, it's some kids with a bad history who won't talk to police? That seems far, far, far too great of a coincidence, that on that day, just at random, the tiger jumps out, and just at random happens to attack, out of all the people there, these 3 guys.

As to, justified - I can understand saying that. You go mess with an animal that can kill you, and you've chosen your fate. Now, doing so at a zoo is a cowards choice, attacking an animal because they're helpless to retaliate. It's a disgusting act, it's something that often is the first step to bigger crimes. Assuming the slingshot is true - and I think so - these guys went to the zoo because there were animals in cages that they could torment, they could enjoy hurting, without any risk of the animal being able to strike back. That's pretty sick.

I don't know about the third guy - I suspect he was a patsy, a fool going along with some buddies - but the two brothers, their actions before, during, and after show a character that is rotten to the core. Anyone with any decency would have at least told the father where his son was, or called to say sorry, to answer his questions, or done some small thing, anything, to try to lighten his grief.

excellent post!

Natural selection and thinning the herd comes to mind.

It's like a mugger praying on an old lady with a walker, not knowing she's packing a 9mm. Do purse snachers get the death pentaly? No. But if granny blows him away, good for her!

OT: Wish me luck! We're off to the National Zoo today. I will not taunt any of the animals, especially those who can eat me! (Not that I ever have, I'm not that cruel or stupid!)

I heard that news too Pharlap. The woman did say, the taunting was so disturbing that she removed her children from that area.

So how were they taunting the poor tiger...?:waitasec:
Maybe everything the mom saw is not being released to the public atm.

IF they were surrounded by a group of daycare kids the adults with them would of reported their behavior before the situation excellerated to the tiger leaping out of the enclosure.

There is a reason they picked Christmas Day at dinner time and closing time.
The Zoo had very few visitors.

I would have confronted them and alerted staff!

A few years ago when I still had horses, I went with a friend that has a mobile petting zoo for kid's parties and fair events. I relived my friend for several hours and could not believe what parents allowed the children to do to the animals! As many of you may have noticed...... I sometimes am a little too blunt:angel:

All I can say.......I angered many parents:D with BRATTY children and no longer am I asked to help her!

and I fully understand why many pet rescues will not allow pets to be adopted by families with young children. It's too much trouble for parents to teach their kids!!!

drunken roaring?

For me that doesn't rise to the level of taunting I am imagining.
