Tiger kills man at San Francisco Zoo (Part 3)

You're welcome, jilly.

No, I don't think so. I think maybe 2 are outside at one time. The others must be kept inside. Most of the time the tigers were sleeping, not very exciting. I was more scared actually of the lions in the inside enclosure around the corner. It's just a cage, but you can get very close up. The large male lion was very ferocious, and his daughter? I think was pretty intimidating too.

I remember that Lion House. I visited it a number of times. It was the smelliest place I have ever been. Incredible stench. Imagine cat pi$$ times 1000.

When ever I travel I always make it a point to visit the zoo if possible..Have been to this zoo and been in the cat house during feeding and was not overwhelmed by the smell..the cats are not in there all the time..just for public feeding.

I was born there and grew up there. I visited the zoo many times in my youth but avoided the Cat House as I got older.

Some people are more sensitive to smell than others.

The San Francisco Zoo was a PIT. Perhaps things have changed since the last time I visited, some 20-odd years ago.

They do have a new Lemur exhibit in the front, which is nice.

Do the elephants still look miserable in the completely cement enclosures?

Zoos depress me....

I think they had to get rid of their elephants, they weren't there last time we went. I agree, completely unnatural cages, it's a very old zoo.

Surprise! SF Zoo tiger had three babies, not one

Make it triplets for Leanne the tiger.

Officials at the San Francisco Zoo had thought the Sumatran tiger gave birth to only one cub on March 6. But animal keepers were able to confirm this week that the 230-pound new mom had triplets. "We're hoping in the next few days to conduct a physical exam," said Paul Garcia, zoo spokesman. "We might even see more."

Animal keepers and Jacqueline Jencek, chief zoo veterinarian, began to suspect there was more than one cub two days after Leanne gave birth. But Leanne had licked the video camera being used to monitor mom and the baby, limiting the view. And parts of the nesting box built for Leanne and her new babies are not visible from the camera. "One of our keepers saw them when Leanne went out (of the nesting box) to get a drink of water," Garcia said. "She counted three."

Leanne and her cubs won't be disturbed for at least a few more days. And even then, Garcia said the cubs will not be gathered for a physical examination until the mother tiger steps out for food or a drink of water. "We're kind of watching the routine Leanne is doing," he said. "Typically in the morning, she's getting up to eat and get water."

Jencek said Leanne has done an amazing job of keeping her cubs shielded from the camera. It also didn't help that she gave a big lick to the lens on the first day. "When we physically confirmed two more cubs, everyone was just ecstatic with news of the triplets,"

Two brothers who were attacked by an escaped tiger at the San Francisco Zoo on Christmas day have filed a claim against the city of San Francisco for negligence and defamation.

Mark Geragos, who is representing Kulbir and Amritpal Dhaliwal, submitted papers seeking monetary compensation for "serious physical and emotional injuries" on Wednesday.

Undoubtedly, this case will improve Geragos' scorecard.

Boy, I betcha nobody saw this coming! The city's own findings which were released about two weeks ago found the zoo at fault in many areas: not responding to the brothers' calls for help, reporting the incident as two nutsos to 911, having no one on the grounds to handle the tiger attack, and when the guy got there, he couldn't get to the weapon, etc.

These brothers will win.

Here's a local article on it, along with comments so that you can get the local flavor.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/03/28/BAGDVS9UO.DTL&feed=rss.bayarea

It is clear that locals don't like these two. However, like and dislike don't really enter into a civil suit. Jurors will be asked to decide on legal grounds, not emotional grounds.

Undoubtedly, this case will improve Geragos' scorecard.

Can't really hurt it, huh????

It is really too bad the zoo and their PR spokesman decided to denigrate the brothers in public and throw out a bunch of lies. If the zoo had acted responsibily, starting when they heard a knock on the cafe' door and saw a bleeding patron, they wouldn't be about to lose a bundle.
