I had read one article stating 8 passengers but the link about the Titan says it seats 5. If it had more on board than allowed could be the problem. Just speculating, not fact.
 
You couldn't pay me to go down there in that sub. !
Hope they find the missing people soon, an accident at that depth would be close to catastrophic.
I enjoy swimming and free diving in pools, lakes, and the ocean, and even at a depth of less than 20 feet, you can feel the pressure on your body and lungs.
Imagine a breach happening at the depth of more than two miles.

Yeah, I strongly suspect if they find it, they're going to find there was catastrophic failure, and they're going to find evidence of explosive decompression. Incredibly unpleasant, but in its favour, at that depth, a very quick death.

Here is their twitter account. They give the names of the rescue vessels. I''ve been able to find the vessels via the search bar in the upper right (edit) corner

3 tugs seem headed to site of Titanic wreck, where a small submersible that takes paying tourists to view wreck has gone missing AIS shows 3 tugs left port St Johns, listing destination as Titanic wreck site & SAR. 3 vessels are Polar Prince, Kopit Hobson 1752, Horizon Arctic

Okay.....
#1. How is it not known how many people were on the craft when it disappeared? Wouldn't the company keep a log of that sort of thing?

#2. Is it possible it was only employess and no paying customers who were on board as the company said "Our entie focus is on the crew members in the submersible and their families."

I don't think so. The British guy described himself as a "mission specialist", so I think crew members includes people who have paid to go on board.

When I read that I thought, what about the passengers, don't you care about them? but now that you mention it, maybe only crew members were on the submersible

Yes, although I can't link to the coordinates, the ones at the right of the image are close to those of the wreck of the Titanic, given here in Wikimedia's GeoHack (MarineTraffic is listed there)
