GUILTY TN - Evelyn Boswell, 15 months, Sullivan County, 26 DEC 2019 *MOM ARRESTED* #10

  • #41
Gratz identified various photos - a sketch of the Boswell property, a shed, and the playhouse. He was present for the search of the shed and the playhouse.

Exhibits 13, 14, 16, and 17 are shown to the jury. They zoomed in on the items in the playhouse and Gratz confirmed that when the photo was taken, nothing has been disturbed. He identifieD a black trash bag.

Agent Fraley removed the trash can and the black bag. Gratz describeD seeing an arm or leg and said it looked like a baby doll. He also smelled human decomposition.

He says the bag was "packed down" in the can.

He describeD the foil formed around Evelyn's head.

At the bottom of the bag were trash and food debris.

There was a piece of gum stuck to the side of the trash can.

This is brutal. :(

ETA: Gratz confirms body found was confirmed by ME to be Evelyn. Court is recessed for the day.

LIVE-- TRIAL DAY FOUR (1 of 2 recap) AM

Witness: Steve Williams

The first witness called Saturday was Steve Williams, a former employee of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). Williams was the lieutenant of criminal investigations and was part of the search and efforts to find Evelyn in February 2020.

Williams interviewed Boswell at the sheriff’s office and listened to other interviews conducted.

Williams told Deputy District Attorney William Harper that he tried to speak civilly with Boswell when he interviewed her. Williams’ interview with Boswell was entered into evidence and played for the jury.

In the interview, Boswell said the last time she saw Evelyn was right after Christmas when she left her with Ethan Perry, who was previously thought to be Evelyn’s father.

Not far into the interview, Boswell said she would like an attorney if she was going to continue to be accused of lying but agreed to keep talking to Williams.

Boswell told Williams that she did not know where Evelyn was at the time and claimed she had tried to contact Perry to no avail. She also said she had gone to Perry’s grandparents’ home looking for Evelyn, but they were not home.

Boswell also claimed she was unaware that Perry, who was in the U.S. Army at the time, had gone back to a fort in Louisiana. She told Williams she did not know who Perry would have left Evelyn with and did not know who he hung out with when he was back in Blountville.

After the video concluded, Harper resumed examining Williams in the courtroom. Williams did not interview Boswell again but continued to assist in the investigation into Evelyn’s whereabouts.

Scott took over cross-examining Williams and asked what time of day he interviewed Boswell. Williams believed it took place in the evening. Scott asked if Williams could confirm that multiple interviews took place that day, which he affirmed though he could not say the exact order.

When asked by Scott if Boswell had asked for an attorney, Williams said no, hinging on the wording of Boswell’s phrasing. Williams said she told him “if” things were to continue to happen, she would want an attorney. Williams told Scott that Boswell asked him when he was leaving the room if she needed an attorney, and Williams told her he couldn’t answer that for her.

According to Williams, Boswell had been read her Miranda Rights by the time he interviewed her.

Williams was released as a witness.

Witness: Joey Strickler

The next witness to take the stand was Joseph “Joey” Strickler. He told Assistant District Attorney Amber Massengill that he is an employee of the district attorney’s office and previously served as Captain of Criminal Investigations at the SCSO at the time of Evelyn’s disappearance.

Strickler said his role during the search for Evelyn was largely administrative and helping coordinate between the various agencies involved in the investigation. He also interviewed Boswell twice on Feb. 20, 2020. Strickler interviewed her at the sheriff’s office and was not aware of any other interviews that had taken place that day before his.

A recording of Strickler’s first Feb. 20, 2020 interview with Boswell was played for the jury. In the video, Strickler tells Boswell that her ex-boyfriend, Hunter Wood, had been called and should be coming to get her. Boswell instead asks for her mother, Angela Boswell, to come pick her up.

She then asked Strickler if he could find out if Wood had orders of protection against him, which Strickler asked investigators to call about and discover.

“It breaks my heart to see a young lady like you, and you have a child and don’t know where it’s at,” Strickler said in the interview.

Boswell began crying in the video as Strickler asked her for help locating Evelyn. Strickler told Boswell that the SCSO has been in contact with Perry and the Army.

Boswell cried profusely during the interview and told Strickler she thought everything would be okay when she gave Evelyn to Perry. Strickler asked if she thought something had happened to Evelyn, and Boswell said she was not sure.

Strickler asked her about Evelyn possibly having a broken arm, to which Boswell said she was not sure if her arm was broken or just bruised. She claimed the injury occurred after she left Evelyn with Perry when Evelyn fell off a bed.

She then detailed how she knew Perry and said “he was basically writing me off” when Strickler asked if they’d been in contact since she left Evelyn with him.

Boswell told Strickler about living in a trailer park off Sugar Hollow Road before moving in with Wood. She said Wood had been around Evelyn some but not much and because of Wood’s probation status, she thought it not best to bring her around him.

Strickler informed Boswell in the interview that a nationwide alert was about to be sent out for Evelyn and told her he prayed Evelyn could be found. He asked Boswell for any help finding Evelyn and bringing her back.

When asked by Strickler why she had not reached out to see Evelyn or get her back from Perry since Christmas, she said she wanted to resolve things between her and Perry. She said she did not think Perry would hurt Evelyn, but that he would threaten Boswell herself sometimes.

She said neither Wood nor herself had ever hurt Evelyn.

Strickler told her that Perry was claiming he did not have Evelyn and told police that he had not seen her, but Boswell swore he had. She then admitted to having some contact with Perry, which was how she knew about the alleged bruise on Evelyn’s arm.

Goodwin asked the jury to follow an officer out of the courtroom, and the court entered a recess due to a technical issue.

When the jury returned, the final minute of the interview played. In it, Boswell and Strickler discussed her mother coming to get her.

The next interview from that day was also played. During that interview, Strickler told Boswell that things were not adding up.

After Strickler said that, Boswell started to cry and said when she was talking to her father about Evelyn’s disappearance, he told her that Boswell’s mother would have to disappear or would go to jail.

Strickler expressed confusion saying that he thought Boswell believed Perry had Evelyn and did not know what Angela Boswell had to do with anything. Boswell told Strickler that Angela Boswell had Evelyn and was in a BMW.

She also claimed Wood had given the BMW to her mother, but Angela Boswell did not have the title. Boswell said her mother’s boyfriend typically drove the car.

Strickler asked Boswell if she loved her daughter like he loved his.

“I do,” she replied while crying.

Strickler told her he did not care about putting anyone in jail, only bringing Evelyn back. He then asked her about her mother’s activities. He asked her if she had one shot to get her baby back, where she would go. Boswell pointed Strickler to Mendota, telling him her mother and her boyfriend had indicated they were taking Evelyn there.

Boswell said she knew that Angela Boswell had spoken with Perry since she dropped Evelyn off with him. Strickler said his sole focus was on finding Evelyn and worried about what could have happened to her and worried that the child could be in danger or dead.

Strickler asked about a family trip before Christmas to Pigeon Forge that Evelyn did not go on. She then described again going over to Perry’s with Evelyn and Wood to drop the child off.

Boswell told Strickler that there was a time she wanted to see Evelyn while Perry had her, but she said they argued and she did not see Evelyn. She also claimed she and Perry argued once when she showed up to see Evelyn and he threatened to call the police.

Boswell said in the interview that she learned around New Year’s that Angela Boswell and Perry had been talking to one another.

Strickler asked her how she would answer if someone were to ask her how she’d respond if asked why she hadn’t done anything since not seeing Evelyn for months.

After the video, Goodwin dismissed the jury for lunch.

LIVE-- TRIAL DAY FOUR (2 of 2 recap) PM-- post lunch recess

Witness: Joey Strickler Pt. 2

Tim Horne, one of Boswell’s attorneys, asked Strickler to clarify his involvement in the case and also to confirm that both interviews he had with her were on Feb. 20. Strickler said Boswell did not leave the sheriff’s office between the interviews but could not recall the exact times of the interviews.

Horne asked Strickler if Boswell’s request for Wood not to come get her struck him as odd, and he said no, not at that point.

Strickler was released, and the state called its next witness.

Witness: Jeff Blanton

Jeff Blanton took the stand next. Blanton is a former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent who served the bureau for decades and formed a task force in 2012 that was later utilized in the search for Evelyn Boswell in February 2020.

Blanton interviewed Boswell with another FBI investigator on Feb. 19, 2020 at the SCSO. However, Blanton’s interview was not recorded due to FBI policy. The FBI does not allow agents to record interviews outside of the agency’s own property.

Blanton testified that Boswell told him she had last seen Evelyn on Dec. 25, 2019 at Perry’s grandparent’s home. Blanton claimed she told him she had dropped Evelyn off with Perry on Dec. 24, 2019 alone.

According to Blanton, Boswell told him she went on a trip with Wood and her family to Pigeon Forge after dropping Evelyn off. She told Blanton that she took presents to Evelyn to Perry’s grandparent’s home but did not go in to the house. She also said Wood remained in the car at the bottom of the driveway that day out of concern that he and Wood should not interact.

Boswell told Blanton that she saw Evelyn on Dec. 25, 2019 but did not go inside. Blanton said Boswell did not indicate that she had left Evelyn with Perry before. She told Blanton that she left Evelyn with Perry so he could spend time with his supposed daughter over the holidays while he was on break from the Army.

Blanton testified that Boswell then told him Perry was attempting to get custody of Evelyn but could provide no proof of a custody battle. She also allegedly told him that Perry’s name was not on Evelyn’s birth certificate.

According to Blanton, Boswell said in that interview that she had not contacted anyone about Evelyn being gone because of Perry’s custody threats. She also told him that she felt alright leaving Evelyn with Perry for the first time because she needed a break as a mother and that Evelyn was “becoming too much to handle,” Blanton testified.

When Blanton read the notes of the interview back to Boswell on that day, he said Boswell had no corrections.

He described her demeanor during the interview as matter-of-fact but noted she did tear up when he explained that she could be charged with a felony for lying to a federal officer.

Scott cross-examined Blanton and asked for the time of day that the interview occurred. Blanton said it took place in the afternoon. Blanton told Scott that he had not seen any previous law enforcement interviews with Boswell before his own.

Blanton was relieved of his subpoena and released as a witness.

Witness: David Gratz

David Gratz, an attorney and former Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) special agent, was called as the next witness. Gratz was a TBI agent at the time Evelyn was reported missing.

Massengill had Gratz give his education history, which included graduating from law school and working in a district attorney’s office, to the jury.

Gratz recalled the SCSO and Second Judicial District Attorney General’s Office requesting the TBI’s assistance in investigating Evelyn’s disappearance. Massengill produced the official document from the district attorney’s office requesting the TBI’s help.

The TBI was tasked with collecting information and determining the circumstances of Evelyn’s disappearance. Gratz told Massengill that at the time the request was received, he and other agents did not have much background knowledge of the case.

Massengill then provided Gratz with the AMBER Alert poster for Evelyn, and it was entered into evidence. The poster, which included two pictures of Evelyn and a photo of a gray BMW, was shown to the jury. The AMBER Alert was issued and the poster was published on Feb. 19, 2020.

Gratz said the information on the poster about Evelyn’s clothes and the BMW came from Boswell.

Gratz was assigned to be the TBI case agent in the investigation into Evelyn’s disappearance. His role required him to work with the SCSO and the FBI and familiarize himself with the details of the case.

He visited Boswell’s former trailer on Sugar Hollow Rd. on Feb. 19 with SCSO investigator Tracy Haraz. They went to meet with Austin Feller, who testified earlier in the trial about the state of Boswell’s trailer after she moved out. Feller previously described the trailer as filthy and reviewed photos he had taken, which showed trash throughout the trailer. New tenants were living in the the trailer when Gratz and Haraz visited it.

Gratz told Massengill that Boswell had left property behind at the trailer, and he and Haraz were given consent to search the property. They did not locate Evelyn, but Gratz said a stroller that had been left behind in a shed near the trailer was found and located.

Pictures of the stroller were provided to Gratz. He told the jury that the stroller belonged to Boswell, but they did not find any other items related to the case. The photos were shown to the jury depicting a pink and black stroller.

Prosecutors presented the actual stroller in the courtroom, and Gratz positively identified it as the same that was found on Feb. 19 near the trailer.

Gratz said law enforcement was working long hours early in the investigation. He interviewed Boswell shortly before midnight on Feb. 19, and it lasted until about 3 a.m. on Feb. 20. Boswell was mirandized and spoke with Gratz at the sheriff’s office.

She told Gratz she last saw Evelyn on Dec. 26 when she was with Perry. Gratz said she told him that she dropped off Evelyn with Perry and believed he still had her.

Gratz informed her that law enforcement had already spoken with Perry and had “cleared the idea” that Evelyn was in barracks with Perry at an Army fort in Louisiana.

She also told Gratz that Wood had not been around or interacted with Evelyn much, nor had Evelyn ever stayed at Wood’s home. Gratz asked Boswell if Wood could have hurt Evelyn, and she told him no.

The court entered a 15-minute recess.

Witness: David Gratz Pt. 2

When the jury returned, Massengill asked Gratz how many times Boswell told him she’d seen Evelyn since dropping him off. Gratz said she told him she had not seen her since then.

Gratz said Boswell did not seem concerned by not seeing Evelyn in that time. She told Gratz that she had tried to contact Perry but was not concerned. He described her as being nonchalant during the interview.

Gratz interviewed Boswell again on Feb. 20 with SCSO Sergeant Matt Price at the sheriff’s office around midday.

Price and Gratz interviewed Boswell again on Feb. 21. Prior to that interview, Gratz said Boswell consented to agents collecting items at Wood’s home. Gratz donned gloves and opened envelopes containing evidence.

The first item shown to the jury was a small, Polaroid-like picture taken in Blowing Rock, NC. Gratz said it was taken from Boswell’s possessions. The picture was blown up on the court’s television. The picture depicted a body of water and mountains.

The next items Gratz identified were brochures from North Carolina. Gratz said Boswell told him they were from a trip she and Wood had taken to North Carolina. The brochures were taken from Boswell’s belongings at Wood’s home. The brochures were shown to the jury.

Gratz then identified photographs of Boswell and Wood. The pictures were also taken from Boswell’s belongings and had been in a box. The photos were of Boswell and Wood at the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg.

A card saying “Thinking of You” with Boswell’s nickname “Maggie” and Wood’s name was also shown to the jury. Gratz confirmed it was also among Boswell’s belongings.

Gratz also identified photos of Evelyn, some of her alone and some with Boswell. Gratz said they were taken from among Boswell’s belongings at Wood’s home.

He also identified a Jan. 11, 2020 receipt from an Olive Garden restaurant in Kingsport that was taken from Boswell’s things. The next item identified was a shirt belonging to Evelyn that Gratz said was taken from a “memory box” Boswell had. The shirt had the character “Baby Shark” on it.

Massengill asked Gratz to identify the next item: a Baby Shark blanket that was also taken from the memory box. Gratz held it up for jurors to see.

Massengill turned questions back to the interview Gratz and Price had with Boswell on Feb. 21, 2020. Gratz said during the interview, investigators asked Boswell to identify each item in the memory box and explain the significance of each one.

The jury was dismissed for a brief recess.

Witness: David Gratz Pt. 3

When the jury returned, Gratz handled more evidence, including a memory book that said “Hello Baby.” The book featured an ultrasound, and Gratz said it was taken from Boswell’s belongings.

On Feb. 21, 2020, Boswell alleged to Gratz and Price that her mother, Angela Boswell, had Evelyn. Angela Boswell and her boyfriend, William McCloud, were found in Wilkes County, NC. Evelyn was not with them, and Gratz said no evidence indicated they ever had Evelyn.

Gratz and Price traveled to North Carolina to speak with Angela Boswell and McCloud.

According to Gratz, Boswell showed up at the sheriff’s office on Feb. 25, 2020 unscheduled and told police that she was concerned about tampering with evidence and wanted to round up a search party to go to Mendota.

Gratz told Massengill that Boswell did not seem concerned about Evelyn. He and Price asked her if anything had happened that she was not reporting to law enforcement. Gratz specifically asked Boswell if Evelyn had breathing issues that could have led to her death.

Massengill asked Gratz if investigators were considering that Evelyn was dead, and he said it was thought of as a possibility. He claimed they thought there may have been some accident or incident that left Evelyn deceased, and he asked Boswell if something like that had occurred. She told him nothing like that had occurred.

When Boswell left the sheriff’s office on Feb. 25, authorities offered to take her out a side door to avoid media outside. She left from the side door, but she went back to the front and participated in a news interview.

Gratz recalled a multitude of agencies were involved in the search for Evelyn, and a tip line received thousands of tips while the AMBER Alert was active. Gratz was confident that every credible lead was followed. He said each lead that Boswell gave police was thoroughly checked out. For example, he said the TBI and the Army used all their resources to make sure Evelyn was not with Perry.

Angela Boswell and William McCloud were also eliminated as suspects in the case, Gratz said. Authorities also thoroughly searched Mendota at Boswell’s behest, but Gratz said nothing related to Evelyn was ever found.

Massengill produced a Jan. 24, 2020 application for residence at Overlook Apartments. Gratz testified that Boswell and Wood had been considering living there, which led to police interest in the location.

The application stated there would be three occupants. When asked by Gratz who the third person would be, Boswell told him she was pregnant, and that baby would live with them. Gratz asked her why Evelyn would not be living with them. Boswell told him that Wood said he would not live with Evelyn.

Gratz was also on the scene March 6, 2020 at Tommy Boswell’s property when Evelyn’s remains were found. He used a pointer to show the jury on a map of the property where investigators searched. Massengill showed Gratz photos of the property that had already been entered into evidence.

Gratz reviewed photos from inside the playhouse where the trash can that contained Evelyn was found. He said the trash can and bags stood out since they did not have any dust or cobwebs like the other contents of the playhouse.

He recounted watching TBI agent Brian Fraley, who testified on the first day of the trial, remove the trash can and the top bag. Gratz began to smell decaying human flesh for the first time and saw a child’s leg. He thought the leg was part of a baby doll at first because of the sheen on it and the dark conditions they were searching in. As soon as they realized it was Evelyn, the investigators on the scene called their supervisors and the forensics center.

Gratz said the trash can and bags were removed from the playhouse. He told the jury about the process of removing Evelyn from the trash can on the porch of the playhouse and described the position the child was found in.

As he continued to review photos of Evelyn’s remains being removed from the trash can, Gratz told the jury he took the pictures. He noted that when the bag containing Evelyn was removed, her remains left an imprint in the trash below.

Gratz used a pointer to show the jury a blanket and outfit on Evelyn and the aluminum foil that was wrapped around her head. In the bag with Evelyn was other trash and food debris, Gratz confirmed while examining a picture.

Gratz said a piece of gum stuck to the inside of the trash can was collected as evidence. The foil was collected and sent to a TBI lab in Knoxville and later sent to the bureau’s Nashville lab for analysis.

The jury was shown a photo of the aluminum foil at the Knoxville lab. The photos showed multiple sheets of aluminum foil stretched out on a table.

Gratz told the court Evelyn’s body was sent to the forensics center in Johnson City for an autopsy, and investigators received confirmation that the body was that of Evelyn.

Goodwin released the jury for the day around 4:10 p.m. The trial will resume on Monday morning.

Court is on a short break.

Heart break... :( :(

I recall these were birthday gifts by witness Stacy:

Stacy did see Boswell in December 2019 when she wanted to give her a birthday shirt she had made for Evelyn’s first birthday. Boswell came to Stacy’s house to get the gifts but did not have Evelyn with her.

Massengill asked Stacy to put on gloves to remove evidence from an envelope. When she removed the evidence, Stacy began crying and informed the jury it was a shirt she had made for Evelyn for the child’s birthday.

The next piece of evidence she removed was a blue Baby Shark blanket that Stacy had put Evelyn’s name on for the child. Stacy, still crying, said the shirt was made for Evelyn to wear at a birthday party she believed was being planned, and the blanket was a gift for the child.

Stacy said that around the time Evelyn would be turning 1-year-old, Boswell would say Evelyn was “mean as [expletive],” which shocked Stacy.

Stacy said she also bought Christmas gifts for both Boswell and Evelyn, but Boswell did not come collect them.

MB, PATHOLOGICAL LIAR at age 18...

I'm recalling MB's interview with Lt. Michelle Gilliam (SCSO) when EB was first considered missing.

Lt. Gilliam asks MB to give her a timeline since EB's birth [11/21/18] -- where they lived, etc. up to the day she last saw her child.

Even on this early date of the investigation, MB thought she was the brightest bulb illuminating the room. I think MB had to be lying her entire life!

I also recall the Boswell's celebrated Thanksgiving together at the home MB's brother (Tommy Jr), and the last time the grandfather physically saw EB.

Seeing today's photo evidence of Shark Baby blanket and her Shark Baby birthday shirt that was never worn by EB, I don't think we ever saw one photo or video of EB's first birthday party. Yet another red flag, although a party was believed being planned per witness Stacy. JMO

No, MB, EVELYN needed a break. From MB. Evelyn deserved a better life.

So many people who would have loved and cared for her. Bathed her.

Instead, tin foil, spoiled food.

MB is devoid of humanity. She threw her humanity away.

So two important revelations today that IMO may point to motive:

1. Megan stated she needed a break from caring for Evelyn.

2. Megan stated her boyfriend Hunter didn’t want Evelyn to live with them.

Up until Hunter's father testified on Friday, this was the first we ever heard of him! IMO, MB told her family and friends about this enterprising man, HW, she met that was her boss and very good company. IMO, either MB or both mislead us to believe HW was the owner of the Chicken Shack. Appears MB went so far as to tell her mother and LE that the 2007 BMW (Amber Alert) was a gift from HW and herself!

Also, I'd been under the impression that HW was the manager who had interviewed MB sometime in November, and long believed she set her sights on him immediately. I wouldn't be surprised if that sudden trip to El Paso, TX to introduce EB to the alleged baby daddy EP for the first time was to test the water -- see whether or not she could dump EB on him (or his step-grandparents) --hoping to pursue being the queen of Chicken Shack, with a start date of December 2, 2019.

Seems to me the State also had RW go out of his way, as a witness, to clarify he was the sole owner of the Chicken Shack, he hired MB, and both MB and his son were his employees. Not exactly the story embellished by MB.

We know that by the week of Christmas, MB was going out of her way to introduce HW to those important to her including her foster family, all the while lying about the sudden absence of EB. MB and HW also allegedly went with the Boswell clan to Pigeon Forge on Christmas Eve. I can't imagine how uncomfortable this was for the family without Evelyn.

I think MB was initially on her best behavior, love bombing HW, which excluded exposing him to her toddler who was probably deceased by the time EB missed her December wellness visit with the pediatrician. I also doubt HW ever saw-- let alone stayed at her pig-sty or the dude would have dropped that girl stat!

I think the Jurors are likely getting the picture that HW was also victim of MB. I think the State will be able to make this more clear when the defense presents their case. Only MB had a motive to kill her child. MOO

She also told Gratz that Wood had not been around or interacted with Evelyn much, nor had Evelyn ever stayed at Wood’s home. Gratz asked Boswell if Wood could have hurt Evelyn, and she told him no.
According to Blanton, Boswell told him she went on a trip with Wood and her family to Pigeon Forge after dropping Evelyn off.

Saturday, 2/8/25 Witness Testimony:

During the MB's 2/20/19 interview with Joseph "Joey" Strickler, Captain of Criminal Investigations at the SCSO at the time of Evelyn’s disappearance, MB goes 'fishing' for info on Hunter! She asks Strickler if HW has any Protection Orders against him, and the sound quality is poor but I think she asks about any DV charges. Strickler says he doesn't know but he can find out for her. She's good... He does leave the room for a bit and whether he makes inquiry I don't know.

ETA: The man is trying to find her baby. Tells her about lifetime nightmares officers have over locating deceased children and this was her reaction... to inquire about HW!

Ugh, I’m familiar with all the different locations mentioned In this case. Feels creepy.

Megan sits in the courtroom barely paying attention to the witnesses. Nonchalant is the perfect word to describe her demeanor.

Cold, nasty liar.
Reptilian demeanor to me but tries to use her 'poor innocent female me'. Disgusting IMO

WJHL divided up today's testimony into separate videos.

FEB 8, 2025
All of the witnesses called by the state Saturday were either current or previous members of law enforcement. Each witness had interviewed Boswell at some point during the search for her daughter, Evelyn Boswell, in February 2020. To see the video of each witness’s testimony, click here.
Thank you for sharing.
I just got home last night and have been trying to catch up.

Reminder that Megan was never pregnant with another child, it was a lie.

I know she used it as a weird excuse to avoid taking a polygraph - even though SCSO doesn’t conduct polygraphs - but apparently she also told Hunter she was pregnant, presumably with his baby.

Was this an attempt on her part to cement their relationship? Even though Hunter wasn’t the restaurant owner himself I would consider that Megan saw his family as a way to “move up” in the community. Perhaps she even imagined Hunter owning the restaurant one day.

Megan relied on the kindness of friends and family, even her childhood friends, and managed to portray herself as a helpless single mom. IOW she saw opportunities to benefit herself. What better benefit than the son of a kindhearted business owner?

If Hunter didn’t want to help raise Evelyn or if Megan even only imagined any reluctance on his part to move in with her she may have blamed Evelyn anyway. And that’s all it took to dispose of her child.

This is all my own opinion based on information coming out in the trial.

Can someone help me with the timing of things? MB didn’t start working at the chicken shack until December 2. So that is when she met Hunter correct? It seems that, in order for her to work, she had already gotten rid of Evelyn. So, how can the argument be made that she got rid of Evelyn in order to be with Hunter?

I think it's becoming abundantly clear that Evelyn was murdered most likely around the second week of december. Ethan Perry came home for Christmas and tried to see the baby but Megan made up excuses and he never even saw her. Why would she do that if the baby was still alive and she wasn't even spending time with her anyway?

This is outrageous. She had SO MUCH help. So many people cared about her and the baby, she had so much support. I'm sure someone would care for the baby for a little bit if she so desperately needed a "break" and was feeling helpless. Why didn't she ask for help? I don't understand. Could this all be really about her just wanting to be with a man who didn't want to be involved in her child's life? Because she had another boyfriend and Evelyn was always with her.

The timeline isn’t super clear but at least one witness testified that the last time she saw Evelyn was after Megan had started dating Hunter:

Massengill took back over examining Carter and asked if she remembered having an interview with law enforcement. Scott objected, and the legal teams conferred with Goodwin. Massengill moved on and asked if Carter remembered the last time she saw Evelyn, to which she said the trip to Chili’s was the last time.

The three of them went to Chili’s about three or four weeks after Boswell starting working at the Chicken Shack and was already dating Wood.

I know the Chili’s receipt was entered into evidence but I don’t remember the exact date.

Another witness took a photo of Evelyn in December, not sure of the date. This was the same witness who told Megan’s friend who worked at the pediatrician’s office about Evelyn’s severe diaper rash.

So best we can provisionally estimate is that Megan decided to rid herself of her child after hooking up with Hunter. We may never know how he felt about shacking up with Megan, with or without Evelyn but it’s probable that Megan wanted her gone.
