I think that the perp was a local and knew that if he was somehow stopped that morning, even on Holly's property, he could always claim to be turkey hunting.
I don't think abducting from the home was that risky actually. Holly's scream at 7:40 didn't even wake Clint from his sleep....and the abductor took his time. Ten minutes later, he is just getting Holly off the property.
I don't put too much stock in exact correlations of all the different elements of the timeline in any case. One thing we know is that the dog woke Clint up. Seems very likely the dog started barking because of the scream or because it sensed a stranger outside. Which brings me to one thing I've been thinking about. It's a highly speculative topic (what isn't in this case) but here it goes...
If there is a door to the carport, and Holly's car was in the carport then she only had to walk maybe 7-10 feet to her car door. That's the one part of the abduction where time was probably a big issue for the abductor. He had to get her before she got in the car and started it or ran back inside. So it seems like he may have needed to hide close to the house. And it looks to me like the woods are at least 20 feet away from the house around the back area. So did he hide behind the pool or the car? How long did he wait? Did he get lucky? Why didn't the dog sense him earlier if he was close to the house?
I don't expect answers to these questions but I have wondered about it. I do think he might have immobilized Holly from 20 feet away if he pointed a gun at her as he was coming to her. And I have seen young girls go into shock and freeze in highly stressful situations before (such as car accidents) so that may have worked in his favor. But I do think it's interesting to ponder the fact that he had to be waiting for her and make sure he was close enough to her when she came out of the house for his plan to succeed. Maybe he just got lucky or even was planning to enter the house and attack her when she emerged from it. It does lead you to believe he knew her schedule and which car was hers (if Clint's car was there too).
