My entire family is from the NE corner of Mississippi. In fact my Aunt and 1st cousin from Memphis were just here in Seattle visiting. They were going on an Alaska cruise.Yes, we've been through this many times before. And I'm sorry - I'm not prepared to accept the conjecture that Tennesseans are automatically hicks who don't realize the importance of exact language when, say, one's sister has just been removed from the property by - apparently by - someone a witness does not recognize,. someone of apparent bad intent.
The language here changed for one of two reasons and neither of them, I think, was because the word choice was colloquial.
JMO and all that. Dang. Holly girl, where the heck are you??
I am very offended that people on this thread keep making us out to be in need of interpreters. I am with all due respect bringing this up because it is stereotyping. My father, mother, aunts, uncles, cousins and myself can speak and be clearly understood. There are things that we may say i.e. the 'eye' of the stove. We say that instead of 'burner' because a wood stove has 'eye'...but in context it is clear what is meant. MOO
