http://wjhl.com/2016/09/09/man-char...ng-charge-for-allegedly-assaulting-an-inmate/Jones is now facing an aggravated assault charge after an incident inside the jail where he allegedly assaulted another inmate, sending the inmate to the hospital with injuries to his face, according to Collins.
Jones will go to trial for the double murder of the Greeneville sisters in May of 2017. Collins said Jones' trial for the assault will happen after that.
Erick Eugene Jones Jr. was served Monday with a superseding presentment charging him with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse in connection with the December 2014 deaths of two children in a house on North Hardin Street.
Jones was in Greene County Criminal Court for a motions hearing. Judge John F. Dugger Jr. denied a motion by defense lawyer Douglas Payne to deny a jury the option of considering the death penalty for Jones, who turned 24 on Monday.
Detective Lt. Kenni Carter was one of the first law enforcement officers to arrive on scene after a call was made to 911 Dispatch about the girls, who were pronounced dead at Takoma Regional Hospital.
Crime scene photographs taken inside and outside the North Hardin Street house by Carter were reviewed Friday to establish a foundation to present them at trial.
Photographs of rooms in the house, including one of the couch where Kynsleigh Easterly was sleeping according to a statement by Jones, will be allowed. In one photograph, a blackboard is placed where the girl was found by first responders.
The admissibility of photographs taken by other officers will be addressed at a Feb. 26 motions hearing scheduled by Dugger.
Defense motions to suppress signed statements given to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents by Erick Eugene Jones Jr. were denied Monday by Criminal Court Judge John F. Dugger Jr.
The statements were given by Jones after the December 2014 deaths of two little girls in the Greeneville house where he lived.
Still to be heard at an upcoming hearing is testimony about other statements given by Jones to the TBI and a Greeneville police detective about Jones alleged role in the Dec. 17, 2014, deaths of 13-month-old Kynsleigh Easterly and 2-month-old Trinity Brooke Tweed.
Jones trial is now scheduled to begin on Sept. 17, moved back from a May date previously set by Dugger.
