William <modsnip*>Cross, 29, of Huntsville was last seen around midnight last Friday on Williamsburg Street in Whitley City, KY. Cross reportedly told family members he was walking in the woods near there, then the call got disconnected. Since then, family members say no one has heard from him. “He hasn’t been on Facebook and his phone is off,” said Ashley Cross, William’s sister.

Cross had just gotten out of jail three days prior to his disappearance. Family members say he has a history of drug use, but don’t want him judged by his past. “He is still a person; someone’s son, brother and uncle,” Ashley said. His family is simply wanting answers. “I don’t understand how he can just vanish,” she added.

In January, a McCreary County man with local ties also went missing near the same area. Darren Kidd was reported missing on January 5, 2018. In April, kayakers paddling the waters of Marsh Creek found Kidd’s body about three miles from where he was last seen.

“I want to find him alive,” pleaded Cross.

Cross is a 6 ft, 180-pound white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He reportedly has a large tattoo on the side of his neck and stars tattooed on his arms. IMPORTANT: William Cross is still missing​

Although the linked article that was used to start this thread specified William's middle initial was S, there is nothing found elsewhere to substantiate that or to verify his middle name. Accordingly, we have removed the middle name of Sherman from the title of this thread and any posts discussing that individual.

NAMUS shows our missing victim simply as William Cross. The missing poster at the group support page shows him as William "Will" Cross. On that same support page, family has indicated that William is still missing, and the Scott County Sheriff's Office still shows William as missing in their May 18 post.

"The Scott County Sheriff's Office reported William Cross as a missing person around 4 years ago. According to the missing person report, he was last seen on Williamsburg Street in McCreary County, Kentucky. State police joined the case on May 23, 2018, the report says.

However, despite two departments on the case, it's been a seemingly impossible one to crack. With every passing year, the family's frustration grows. They say the lack of information and new leads is devastating. "

"William also had a close relationship with his mom, Robin.

"He grabbed me up and hugged me, like a bear hug," Robin said. "He'd pick me up off the ground. Hug me and tell me he loved me."

But, the older William got, the more distant he became. William got involved with drugs and struggled with addiction.

"When he got on drugs his personality changed," Robin said. "He wanted the drug. And he wanted the money. So he stole from me. He stole from [his sister]. He said things to us to hurt us."

Details of Disappearance​

Cross was last seen on the evening of May 18, 2018, when he was dropped off on Williamsburg Street in Whitley City, Kentucky. At about midnight he spoke to someone on the phone and said he was walking through the woods. The call got disconnected and he has never been heard from again.

Cross's family stated it's uncharacteristic of him to be out of touch with them, even when he was using drugs. He was particularly close to his sister and never went more than a few days without talking to her. Little information is available in his case.

Will's sister on the official missing page for him seems to think so.

Sadly, Will was found deceased in McCreary County, KY in October 2023. His remains have been identified.

MCCREARY CO., Ky. (WVLT) - Human remains found in October 2023 in McCreary County, Kentucky, have been identified as a Scott County man last seen in 2018.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were identified as William “Will” Cross.

Cross was reported missing after being dropped off in Whitley, Kentucky on May 18, 2018. He was last heard from that night when he told a family member that he was walking in the woods.
