Should he be turning to the jury and "instructing" them so much? Isn't it better to engage the questioner?

Most of the expert witnesses do turn to address the jury instead of answering to the lawyer. They are trained to do that when taking courses regarding testifying in trials. That's something I learned from the Casey Anthony case.
