Nice headline by the National Post...............

Calling the witness a prostitute?

I heard she was an escort...........not a prostitute.

Was there any testimony that the witness was a prostitute?

JMO.........

I wouldn't mind making $18,000 in a few months to give away to my "friend/business partner" just by having dinner with lonely guys.... Hmmmm.... I think one can assume the obvious!

“We discussed me getting into the escorting business, which I did,” she said, adding that whatever money was made would go to him.
There was a loud gasp in the courtroom when Spitzig said that and at least one juror visibly recoiled.

"There was a loud gasp in the courtroom when Spitzig said that and at least one juror visibly recoiled."

I'm guessing this is why the judge gave the statement about the Mr's character.

I googled 70 Tennyson Street (Rafferty's home) and there is a police car in the driveway. Something tells me that they put one in the picture after the fact. lol.

Even though we can make the assumption, I can't believe that the newspaper took the liberty of using the word prostitute. Can she not come after them for that.MOO

I would imagine National Post has lawyers on staff. Or on retainer at least.

She got manipulated.

Wow, just got home and way behind. Looks like they saved the best witness for last.

And I hope to hell she never left her kids alone with him.

It's a photo from 2009 after his arrest... Infact I drove by (being nosey) and there were a few police cars around his place.... The most interesting scene was TLM's place on Wilson street, when the forensics guys were there...

It sure doesn't look like she shied away from the cameras! Other than BA isn't this the first one who's picture was shown?

I think the only difference is that an "escort" is legal because the word implies that they're escorting someone to dinner, a show, an event, etc. We all know what goes on once the person is paid.

Actually giving sex for money is legal in Canada, it seems. They're talking about opening some brothels here in my small town. I hope someone puts a stop to that real quick. A few days ago the owner of an escort service put an ad in the paper for job opportunities. Must be 18+

I tell ya, if I had a daughter who went anywhere near her for a job interview, Ms. escort owner would be sorry.

When I saw the trial update on my local news they showed her by herself, and then chatting it up with the girl that testified after her, and then they showed her talking to Tara outside.

I wonder if this was the real reason for the delay this morning

http://www.lfpress.com/news/london/2012/04/20/19660621.html
At least one inmate was injured Friday morning at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre after an apparent stabbing inside the provincial jail.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services wouldn't confirm the stabbing, but said an "incident" had occurred there.

Two released men standing outside the detention centre, waiting for rides home, said there had been a stabbing.

"Everything went crazy and they called a code blue," said one of the two men, who did not want to be identified. "I heard some guy got it."

If this board is not 100 % for sure he is guilty I think that the jury might have the same problem because the way I see it if we averaged out what people on here think lets say 8 to 2 in favor of MR being guilty we have to assume those same numbers could be the jury. I would be extremely upset if the jury can't agree.

You're right. The problem is that a jury has to be 100% in agreement on the verdict. If they were initially split by the same ratio, they'd have to hash it out to get the others to agree on a unanimous verdict.

If you find it online, could you post it please?

"Charity Spitzig, 26, testified that she deposited $400 at 9:47 a.m. in his bank account on April 8, 2009 and another $100 at 2:47 p.m. the same day because Rafferty had asked for it." From the Star article.

This is, IMHO, a smoking gun.

He withdraws cash that he had previously demanded for gas money, while she waits in the car; then he goes directly to Home Depot, where she gets out and he waits in the car. What exactly does a teenaged junkie need at Home Depot? A caulking gun? A light switch cover? Grass seed for that bare patch on the lawn? Why does one of them always wait in the car?

OK, I'm being mean and irrational and am seeing guilt because I've let emotions get the better of me. She stopped to get a pack of gum and a magazine; they have that at Home Depot, yes?

She walks out with a small bag. So naturally, he pops the trunk. Why did he pop the trunk? I'll say that again for effect. A teenaged junkie walks out of Home Depot with a small bag in her hands; he was waiting in the car, and he pops the trunk. Why does he pop the trunk when she's carrying a small bag? I don't recall her leaning in as one might, to say "Pop the trunk."

It's because he knows what the bag contains. He just withdrew money to pay for it. Pre-meditation. His hands were on the wheel, literally and figuratively.

After his arrest, the house was secured until the investigation was over. The same with TLM's house. LE didn't want people coming and going and compromising evidence.

Well, I suppose they could have been a bit more politically correct and called her a sex worker. In my opinion, "prostitute" sounds more classy than "sex worker", though.

Escort sounds even classier IMO :) but it all boils down to the same thing. I don't care what she does for a living that's her biz, but glossing over what she does for a living with a play on words is just... I won't say it :)
