I have three productive adult children. Top students. Giving , kind people. Invited places as children because of their excellent manners. I was told this by impressed parents.

I spanked my oldest daughter once for running into the street when she was four.

The rest of them, no.

They were not perfect children and I have even learned as adults about meal time. I thought I served the perfect meals, but they would go to the bathroom and flush food they did not like down the toilet they recently told me. a little lesson in humility for me.

My son's friend damaged our car. We had increased insurance payments. Until a few years ago,we thought my son had done it. We asked him why he lied about it. He said because that boy's parents would have killed him. I am taking it as a compliment.

Hitting is not discipline. Discipline is teaching your child consequences and alternatives to poor choices.

Pray tell. What does a child learn from a swat?

If you are a man or a woman, what would you learn from a swat from your hubby or wife? Crazy, isn't it!

I am not personally saying this is okay, just explaining legally while AP may get off. State laws confirm the right of parents to inflict physical punishment on their children and legal provisions against violence and abuse are not interpreted as prohibiting all corporal punishment in childrearing.

My guess is that AP will go to counseling and pay a fine, but IMO he is not going to be exiled. The Vikes just let him back, and that, in itself, is sending a message. No comment yet from R Goodell.

As I have pointed out many ways, it's all about the game. We have seen the Stuebenville rape case, the Sandusky/Penn State case, and many other cases involving athletes. All the way back to the OJ Simpson case, Mike Tyson rape case, and up to the many shootings, assaults, rapes murders, you name it. The Oscar Pistorius case was a domestic case, IMO, that ended with a death, the Hernandes murder case, Need I go on? A lot of these cases are not prosecuted to the fullest simply due to popular athletes being involved. I think it totally disgusting for fans to put on the blinders when it comes to one of their favorite team members being involved in a crime. They are willing to "explain" away any vile act the player may have committed because they do not want that player to be missing in the playoffs.

What a disgusting man. No wonder I just scroll right past all the sport channels. Kinda like watching rabid dogs fighting in a pit.

Barf. They (he and Charles Barkley) probably also secretely think that what Ray Rice did was right too.
These athletes have so many children by so many women I guess they feel that if they kill one they'll just make another one just like him. :gaah:

From the article: "Beaten savagely by a 240 pound professional athlete, this very young child had leaves stuffed into his mouth and suffered open wounds on his back and buttocks, and a bruised penis. He still had welts a week after the beating."

Some believe the bible supports this and no one, government or otherwise, has a right to determine this is not okay.

Islamic Radical ISIS also believe in beheading, stoning women to death, lashing a woman to death, beheading children, torture, putting heads on spikes, holding infidel and Jewish women as sex slave................all in the name of religion.

These were not switch marks, these were open, broken skin welts like you would see from using a horse whip. Anyone who thinks this is a normal way for a parent to discipline their children should be in prison.

My opinion- A parent should decide how to discipline their child, not other people, not the gov't. (for what its worth, the bible is also on this side) I'm not talking about abuse, I'm talking about spanking, either with the hand or a switch. I was disciplined with a switch, which sometimes left stripes, no big deal. I spanked my own child with my hand on his butt, when needed, followed by sit and think about it time. When I heard about this, I expected to see massive bruises or black eyes, but I saw switch stripes. Umm.
I see children in public, and can tell by their actions, they have never recieved ANY kind of discipline, and to me, that is much worse.
I am personally past child rearing age, so don't worry, I won't be doing any switching, but if I was on that GJ, he would not be charged.
All MOO, and I realize I'm going against the grain on the thread.

You are going against humanity, it's cruel, it's unnecessary, it's sick and disgusting that anyone would think it's okay to hit a 4 year old. To give him a pass b/c your parents abused you is just passing on poor parenting practices to future generations.

I've seen this logic all over the web. My parents beat me, I'm a good productive adult, I'll beat my child if I want to, oh but I'll call it "discipline" I'll call it a "switch" b/c apparently people think "switch" sounds better than weapon.

Judging parents by the actions of their children in public says nothing. Absolutely freaking nothing. How would one know that child received no discipline? The 2 minute observation of a child does not indicate anything, maybe they are beaten soundly at home, maybe they frequently get spanked, maybe they get timeouts, maybe, just maybe the child has special needs, maybe they have Autism and are overwhelmed with the environment around them and are having a meltdown.

I'm pretty much sick of the argument that "i see undisciplined children all the time, they need beat".

Now I'm stepping away before I lose my patience entirely.

I am THRILLED the photographs were leaked! THRILLED!
I'm sorry the mom feels this way, and legally she has every right to be. However, I feel it's too important to sweep under the rug.
This is now a national topic and if even a few child abusers see it for what it really is....it's a wonderful thing.

All IMO

Any chance we can get sponsor information so that we can contact the sponsors and voice our disapproval? I don't have much time but there has to be an organization or advocacy group that is already organizing action - or at least I hope so.

True. Unless they're gay. Anything is forgivable except that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieI1aSkQSI8

Hey, this cat actually played ball right after another of his sons died from horrible abuse. I mean, it;s just a kid, suffering, maybe dying. No biggie.

Islamic Radical ISIS also believe in beheading, stoning women to death, lashing a woman to death, beheading children, torture, putting heads on spikes, holding infidel and Jewish women as sex slave................all in the name of religion.

Bravo. Seriously. Does anyone know how that feels? To create wounds like that? What could a four year old possibly have done to merit a flogging? Because that's what that was. A flogging. Like they used to give sailors. Like ISIS tortures full grown men with today. This tiny little preschooler was flogged so bad he had bloody cuts, welts, bruised genitalia.

But I guess because his eye wasn't blackened, that's okay. It's reasonable.

Anyhow, who cares if his face had been battered too? People need to mind their own business and let people raise their children the way they want to and "discipline" them in the manner they chose.

Geesh.

I hope she is more outraged by what caused the injuries in those pictures. I do take heart by the fact that she kept that doctor's appointment. She had to have known that the abuse would be reported.
