TX - Austin Metcalf - 17 - fatally stabbed at track meet, 2 April 2025

The stabbing did not occur during a regularly scheduled school competition but during the 11-5A CHAMPIONSHIP DISTRICT TRACK MEET including 8 Schools and more than 100 Students participating. I noticed that the Frisco ISD schools pulled this event almost immediately from the "standings" lists and whether or not the events were rescheduled, I have no idea.
One thing I noticed in the articles I’ve read, KA’s parents do not say AM’s name. Maybe it is only the articles I’ve read, but it seems dehumanizing to me.

So much has changed in athletics since my day. Kids that participated in athletics from other schools seemed to know each other & although competitive were somewhat friendly to each other. I remember parents complimenting kids on other teams if they did something truly amazing. I know some kids were on county All-Star teams & knew kids from other schools in the city or county.

Karmelo Anthony has not been indicted at this time.

The case will be presented to a grand jury, likely before the end of June.

The grand jury will then decide whether to indict or no bill Anthony.
The fam is going pretty hard in their message on the fund raising site to not be indicted. “Resistance in the face of injustice”.

Gross.

Hope he and his family enjoy their court appointed lawyer and funds for their additional security, a new living situation, etc. while they can, MOO it isn't going to affect KA being prosecuted and convicted for murder, nor will it prevent the natural legal consequences of that conviction.

Dehumanizing indeed, ita. IIRC KA's mother called AM "that boy" during one of her 'press conferences' with the mouthpiece. smh jmo

IMO, it follows that KA was not anywhere near his own school's pop-up tent, well knowing he was not supposed to be at the District Meet after being disciplined/suspended earlier for bringing a knife to school.

During KA's bond hearing, talk of the School "incident" was soon silenced by his defense-- citing it did not involve police! We also know that the School District stopped commenting about KA --including the knife incident reported by CBS/11-- citing the ongoing investigation.

TBH, I was surprised to read the School District confirming that KA would graduate. I suppose this was after much pressure imposed by Next Generation Action Network and after receiving legal clearance that this statement would not impact the criminal investigation.

I read somewhere he had enough credits to graduate, so it may have been a hard row to hoe if he wasn’t allowed to graduate.

So KA's family has raised lots of money for his defense. Some feel the same way I feel about the support subway murderer Perry received. MOO

If KArmelo had a previous incident at school involving a knife, I do believe that info is relevant. In some states, students are sent to tribunal. It makes me wonder are they simply written up and no school public safety report written? Surely school resource officers would know about it, so that if the student shows up on campus, they can intervene. Incidents involving weapons at school should involve a "police" report, even if it's just the school's police.

I'm sad to read that people would further traumatize Austin's family by subjecting them to swat calls. I hope it's well documented, so that if police respond in the future, they know it's a history of false calls. I also hope they catch the person behind this and they are punished to the max. There is nothing funny about this and they don't deserve this at all.

This happened in Texas. I will be watching to see how "justice" plays out in this case.

Penny's fundraiser was solely for his attorney fees in the criminal case and he was found not guilty following his trial, not guilty of murder or manslaughter or anything else. The attorneys in his case also indicated that any additional funds not spent on his criminal case would be used for his attorney fees if a civil lawsuit was filed against him. If not needed, then IIRC, donations would be made to veterans' associations, or something similar.

Quoted from link above.

The arrest report also identified about two dozen other student athletes from various Frisco ISD high schools and four coaches who said they witnessed the stabbing”.

So over twenty other kids from different high schools witnessed Austin’s stabbing? What attracted their attention from other tents? Four coaches? I guess it must have escalated pretty quickly, because otherwise the coaches would have jumped in. I hadn’t noticed these details before.

From the quoted link 5/24/25:

Frisco Independent School District had wanted to expel Anthony over the killing of Austin, a student at nearby Memorial High School.

An expulsion would have automatically meant he would not graduate. But hours after a dramatic press conference last month Alexander said the school reversed the move.

It is understood Anthony will still not be allowed to participate in the ceremony or walk on the stage as he remains under house arrest. Frisco ISD declined to comment.

Alexander said last week: 'We are in arrangements of doing an early [graduation]. They have agreed to allow him to graduate. They were literally trying to expel him - period.'

Setting everything else aside for 2 seconds:

If KA actually earned his HS diploma then by all rights, he deserves to have it.
He doesn't deserve to be congratulated on stage though, so I think the school made the right call, despite Mr. Metcalf calling it "rewarding" him. It's not a reward if he actually worked for it, before he murdered Austin Metcalf in cold blood.

Maybe in prison he can put that HS diploma to good use, somehow.

Jeffrey's view is understandable, his emotions are raw. But I agree with you on this one, let it go and focus on the upcoming legal hearings.
