I guess I missed that Mike Howard was appointed . . . Dominique’s Facebook post of April 12th states “the family has officially retained Mike Howard to serve as legal counsel” . . . how important fundraising will be. Sorry I don’t know how to post Facebook on here.

I would be interesting to know if Mr Howard was appointed or retained.

Interesting reading. Looks like this attorney knows his stuff. He used to be a district attorney for Dallas. I found this Interesting, "unlawful carrying of weapons". Carrying a knife in places where it is unlawful to have a weapon, like school property.

"However, if you carry a weapon in certain places like liquor stores, bars, airports, and college campuses, the charge can become more serious. In these restricted areas, the charge can become a third-degree felony, which means up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000."

The law in Texas includes knives, in same category as guns. Charges can

Agreed. He was probably approached, and took the job. The funds KA has are considerable.

I agree, that minimizing KA's behavior would be important. Making Austin look like a bully who was threatening KA. And KA responded with a knife in fear of his life.

Whether or not it is true, is irrelevant for defense strategies.

I missed reading/hearing quotes attributed to DomAlex. (to the effect) that KA's parents hired/ engaged Mike Howard.

Still sitting on the fence re multiple issues re this case. Just mo, imo.

I think it’s confusing because I’ve seen general reporting articles using appointed, but not the usually Judge XXXX appointed Attorney XXXX to be the attorney for , especially if a prominent attorney.

I live in an open carry state. My brother advised my nephew to get a concealed carry license because you never know what the one policeman that pulls you over understands about the law. I asked our neighborhood policeman about it & he laughed & said that’s good advice.

whether they identify a person by name or refer to a title/office/position.

I've been temporarily by DA stumped more than once.
Adding a couple more letters to a two letter abbrev. lets readers know whether a post refers to District Attorney or Defense Attorney.

Yeah it's so sad, especially to think of Austin's brother graduating and 'celebrating' graduation without him.. as it's supposed to be a joyous and momentous occasion. jmo

My guess is that there will be a lot of tears on that day.

maybe I am just obtuse, but what am I looking at? the calendar doesn't even show an event on April 2? But both boys did compete at the March 22nd event at little elm lobo.

The stabbing did not occur during a regularly scheduled school competition but during the 11-5A CHAMPIONSHIP DISTRICT TRACK MEET including 8 Schools and more than 100 Students participating. I noticed that the Frisco ISD schools pulled this event almost immediately from the "standings" lists and whether or not the events were rescheduled, I have no idea.

This attack occurred around 10 AM per the police report linked above, and where the victim was pronounced dead at hospital at 10:53 AM. In other words, I'm not sure that the participants here were even at the point of intermingling and congratulating each other or whether or not the majority had completed their events. I could be wrong but I get the impression this was still early with many events still remaining-- perhaps some delayed by the weather. JMO

ETA: A District track meet, eight schools, more than 100 students -- nope, this was not over at 10 AM. As a runner -- I'd still be focused, not celebrating. JMO

A spokesperson for the Frisco ISD said the 11-5A championship district track meet, which included more than 100 students from eight schools, took place at the stadium Wednesday morning. The district said that moments after the stabbing, the stadium was immediately secured, the meet was suspended, and all students were returned to their home campuses "with expediency."

I don’t know about other cities, but I’ve noticed where I live, sometimes very prominent attorneys are hired not necessarily to go to trial, but to plead out the case to a lesser sentence. Not sure of Texas law, but I’m assuming if KA was “in jail” he may be treated as an adult. However, the attorney may use his age, any emotional problems but also his school & work records to get a better sentence or ruling against KA. Or to try to get KA to get juvenile status if he currently is under the adult system. Not sure how it works in Texas.
