TX - Austin Metcalf - 17 - fatally stabbed at track meet, 2 April 2025

the purveyor of poo assures us the fundraising money isn't meant for KA's defense, it is meant for security of the family, ensuring their ability to attend all his hearings, and to treat the Anthony family's psychological trauma from having to endure their child murdering another child and the ensuing victimization of their son by the legal system.

Seriously folks, you couldn't make this up and if you did nobody would buy it.
I pray that the deceased’s family will receive financial restitution that would extract every and all monies collected….

Amateur opinion and speculation

Unfortunately, "the fund we know about" has arbitrary rules and policies, while the newer fund has stated principles that are followed and one of them is the right to due process in criminal charges. They do not promote violence and as a Christian company, they are very careful to do due diligence and investigate all complaints. There is nothing immoral about their purpose or work.

It will be an interesting trial & I think most folks are interested in hearing the self-defense argument. I will say the statements on the Anthony page are interesting, some might say inflammatory. At the end of the day, the only opinions that matter will be the jury members.

I checked out how to become a minister online, it is a class and $100 for the certificate.
This sounds like one of those things people can do if the want to officiate at weddings.

Agreed !
Hoping fervently for a jury who can see through the baloney.

Please forgive me. I have not followed 100 percent but could someone catch me up on how much money and what did the parents buy with it? I've seen so much online info and I'd like the truth.
One thing the family did was to rent/lease a fancy house in a gated community because of safety concerns.

So the funds are dispersed to Kala Hayes. KA is a legal adult, so as OP said earlier, he is entitled to say HE is indigent and apply for a public defender. No parent in the US is obligated to pay for an attorney for their kid, if of legal age.

Can someone with legal knowledge chime in on this?

I don't have the legal savvy to know the technical details, but how in the world can you have a very public crowdfunded campaign that literally says it's (in part) for YOUR legal defense, specifically "critically, retaining qualified legal counsel" created by your step-mother, for YOU, then turn around and claim to be indegent to the courts?

I have $540,510 reasons that I can't see how KA could prove to the court he's in need, at all.

Classic "bait and switch". MOO, is that the family doesn't see the point of wasting cash on a "done deal".

On your own KA. Mama done thrown youse outta da bus!

I don't think she's throwing him under the bus - or saying see-ya on your own now son.
That's why this is so appalling to me. He shouldn't be eligible for a public defender.

That is actually his step-mother in charge of the account. In her name. Kala Hayes. So, I guess technically, it would be considered her "fund" and discretion how to use funds.

Yes I know who she is. Whatever the technicalities are - i.e., how the fund was structured and what the qualifications are for a public defender. I hope that money is considered as an asset on KA’s balance sheet!!

Regardless of who is permitted to receive it. KA is the reason it was given. Why should his parents reap a reward? If they had any morals at all, they would quietly stand by their son and accept whatever the consequences end up being - he killed another human. Not asking for a handout and promoting racial division. MOO!!!!

I think that the wording is carefully crafted to ensure that the family is clear that the fund is to help their family. Not necessarily primarily for legal fees.

I’m going to refrain from commenting on this any further.

“I am pleased that we are moving forward with the first-degree murder indictment,” Jeff Metcalf told NewsNation. “It now goes into the court system. I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.”

Instead, I’m posting a quote from Jeff Metcalf.

It would be interesting to know the attorney & associated costs for this type of case. If the one had $500,000 in funds (not counting living, security, counseling expenses): retainer was $50K (retainers may have different meanings, but let’s say this is for availability & general advice), if services are billed at $500/hr, that would be 900 billable hours. This wouldn’t take into consideration expert testimony or those type of expenses. I’m sure billable hours vary greatly from case to case, but I’m curious of the general cost range for this type of case.

Interesting, thanks for posting. To further break that down, if the $50k was already exhausted. That would mean in three months he spent 10 hours/day working on the case.

I’m assuming the $500/hour includes paralegals and ancillary staff?

Here’s what Google has to say:
Legal fees for a murder case in the US can vary significantly, but generally range from $100,000 to $250,000 or more, according to Eisenberg Law Offices, S.C. and Quora. Factors like the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the jurisdiction all influence the final cost, according to www.duilawdefense.com. Some high-profile cases can even exceed $1 million.

Did I miss something? What evidence is there that Kayla Hayes is KA's "step-mother?" I don't recall any other woman surfacing and claiming to be KA's "birth momma."
