Would like info: how long did Amber Guyger live at that complex? What apartment did she live in and where is the apartment in relation to Mr. Jean’s apartment? Does the same key open every door in the complex? Did Amber Guyger shoot Mr. Jean when he opened the door or was she able to open the door and enter the apartment before encountering him? So many questions. Murder, yes!!!

We have answers to the first few questions. She'd lived there only a month and her apartment was directly below his. No, the same key doesn't open every door. moo

From this article:
Warrant Coming for Officer Who Killed Man in Dallas Apt.

“Guyger then put down several things she was holding and continued to fight with the key when the resident swung open the door and startled her.”

If she set things down, you’d think she’d notice the doormat. JMO

No the same key does not open every door.
He opened the door for her.

I THINK if he had shot her when she was inside his apartment it would have been justifiable homicide/self defense. If police officers are executing a warrant and breaking in- it's different, but she was off duty and no official business.

I live in Texas and know a man who shot and killed at least one- maybe two- people who kicked his door in intending to rob him. He stood at the door when they kicked it in and killed them in the doorway. The man was not charged.

I'm guessing though that the people who kicked in his door were not cops. That would be the huge difference in this case if that had happened.

The doors all look the same, she could have been not paying attention to the mat. Just trying to get into what she believed was her apartment.

Again though, since she set things down you would think she would have noticed the mat at that point. Just so many times she should have noticed and stopped to think... yet never did.

From what I read on WFAA, neighbors reported scuffling, an altercation, loud running footsteps, a gunshot...and we don't know exactly where the shot was fired, in the apartment or at the threshold or out on the walkway. Please stick to the facts.

In the interest of sticking to facts please provide a link. TIA

He was in his own home. I cannot see how anyone can blame shift her careless behavior onto him. So what if he were bigger and he “scared” her? Common sense would have been for her to step back and maybe calling for assistance.

And for anyone to suggest that we should just automatically side with LE, I won’t be shy to point out the obvious: Drew Peterson, Daniel Holtzclaw, Jose Tejada, Patrick Sullivan, Darnell Garcia, Theodore Dyer, Joseph James DeAngelo...( just a short list of officers who are convicted felons + the numerous police action shootings of unarmed black males.) Nope nope nope. I will believe the evidence. The facts. Actions over words, especially when they come so late.

The Thin Blue line can only stay intact if the citizens have faith and trust in those sworn to serve and protect.

For some reason I have a very hard time believing that Guyger mistook Jean's apartment for her own.

There is still a lot of information missing from this story.

This breaks my heart. into pieces.
CNN) — Brandt Jean answered the phone at home in St. Lucia when his mother called and asked to speak to his father alone.

Brandt, 17, gave his father the phone and left the room. He said he waited outside and heard his mother’s cries through the closed door.

“I never heard my mother cry like that,” he said.

I can believe that she did mistake it, but there were several clues as to why she should have taken the obvious belief that she had the wrong apartment.
And why shoot immediately the door was opened.

I have immense respect for all police officers who daily put their lives on the line to protect us all, and that includes YOU!!!

I have a lot of respect for police, too. But I don't think we should use the profession as an excuse for an individual when something goes terribly wrong.

If both apartments are on the same floor, then maybe.

But since her apartment is on a different floor than his, and she was not mindful of the floor she was on (does she normally take the stairs or the elevator?), then unfortunately I have to say no.

I wonder when she finally realised that it was the wrong apartment? When he was bleeding on the floor?

Yes, after EMT's arrived is what was reported.

It's the shooting immediately that I have the hardest time believing.
So while missing all the signs it wasn't her apartment is mind boggling... it's nothing compared to immediately shooting him.

According to one report---it was when the EMTs arrived.

Thank you Tricia, I apologize.

Has anyone looked at the door to see if there's one of those little mini window things that you can look out of to see who's at your door?

Me too, but where I live the police have to sign for their guns at the start of their shift and sign them back in at the end of the shift.
